The guy on at 2:11 has some interesting takes. The idea of retaliation against any state sponsors of the attacks, and the removal of restrictions on assassinations. Sounds like he knew what he was talking about.
As you see at 5:20, ESPN simulcast ABC News coverage on this day, but they did not begin simulcasting right away. At 11:05 a.m. Eastern Time on September 11, 2001, The Worldwide Leader cut away from a rebroadcast of the previous night's SportsCenter to bring viewers the ABC News Special Report on the attacks. SportsCenter returned to the air that evening, though in a 30-minute format, to inform viewers on the cancellations of sporting events for the day.
~~Thanks for your presence of mind to do this. I was struck by how many that chose to suspend who didn't go to coverage just went dark instead. Two stood out for me that never acknowledged or changed programming and that was the Game Show Network and Cartoon network. Whether that was intentional or not I don't remember anybody talking about. My own guess over the years has been it gave some parent of kids still to young to comprehend something to look at. Otherwise I don't know.
@gamerboy49 Nickelodeon did not suspend programming; otherwise there would have been a mass lawsuit by lazy parents claiming that Dan Rather "emotionally scarred" their children.
I remember how Cartoon Network, Toon Disney, and Nickelodeon where the only channels still on the air at this time. Because my parents where tired of every other network saying the same things over and over for nearly 2 weeks straight, we got to where we where mainly watching Dexter's Laboratory and reruns of DuckTales
@horrormovie100 I remember listening to it as when I was younger and I haven't heard it since. Do you know where it's from? Massive sad nostalgia time
I remember on nickelodeon that day all they aired when I got home from school was basically a spongebob marathon. It was probably for the better so that parents could maybe get a break from that terror filled day. However, I do remember that following Saturday there were no Saturday morning cartoons but rather an abc news special aimed at children. I was a highschool freshman when this occurred btw.
Pretty much every channel had news coverage on 9/11. The only two that didn't were Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, which was probably a good idea to distract children who may have been very young at the time/
Wow, I remember the History channel had programming but had a ticker at the bottom of the screen that said some thing like "History has been forever altered....."
Yeah, I wish I could find tape of it but it was something like "History has been forever altered by today's events. The History channel sends condolences to those affected by this tragedy..." I'm gonna look for it.
The TimeWarner-owned networks got the CNN coverge, the NBC owned networks got both NBC/MSNBC coverage, the Disney owned networks got the ABC News coverage, the (old) Viacom owned networks at the time got the CBS News coverage (before when the old Viacom was shut down and sold CBS), the News Corp. owned networks got the Fox News coverage, C-SPAN, PBS, NPR, TBN, and TechTV (now G4) did their own coverage. I never knew the Discovery Networks (like TLC) rebrodcasted the BBC coverage.
I remember HBO continuing with their normal programming. They were playing the movie "Where the Heart Is" (how eerie) right when I got back home from school.
i hate to sound harsh, but u care about LFs fro m this day!? 1. i bet TWC suspended programming. 2. The Weather Channel was arguably the last thing on anyones mind, including the people who work(ed) there!
an LF=local forecast on The Weather Channel...why the fuck he'd wanna see one for this date no one knows..probably looked the same as ever....i would know im a big TWC fan
Ah, that's what I thought. I'm trying to remember, it was either business as usual with meteorologists, or maybe at one point later on in the day TWC was showing like, CNN?
I remember making notes in my journal of what stations were off that day ... unfortunately I'm away from home right now.

@RetroVideoFan Virtually every network imaginable that a) was not a kids channel and b) had a sister or coalition network with a news department.
