@Whitemoon379 Thanks for watching and the suggestion!
If I did all that I wanted to this bass of course it would sound better, but I've decided to not upgrade (expensive) stuff for a few reasons.
The money that I save is going into the next bass fund.
Also, I figure a good player can make any instrument sound good, and that takes a lot of skill. Just a guess, but if I can make this one sound good, I'm sure I'll be able to make a more quality instrument sound good.
@XschlickX thank you. It's so much fun. Down the road I hope to upgrade my setup and really get that sound dialed in, but I'm glad you like it. Don't forget to check out my other vids and tell all your friends! Ha ha.
Thanks. Yes, I'm having the time of my life. Haven't had much time to record new stuff lately but I've been on a Roger Waters / Pink Floyd kick lately. We might see some of that soon, I'm getting antsey. I'd give anything up to hit that last note right ha ha.
Thanks. Yes, I'm having the time of my life. Haven't had much time to record new stuff lately but I've been on a Roger Waters / Pink Floyd kick lately. We might see some of that soon, I'm getting antsey.
@panchokoman Thanks. Equipment details are in the info, but I found that "technique" had more to do with sound than anything. Check out TJH3113 and duilkin and other vids on my channel. These guys, much like Geddy,... its all in the fingers. One of the most-fun vids that I put up was "Between The Wheels" by RUSH. What a kick-ass song, so much fun.
@RYaNakaRON182 There's not much to it. It's the Fender Rumble 15 that came as combo with the bass. It's got protected corners and pretty solid electrical connections and dials.
It's not very good for low-end and adjustability is not that great. I think the room size here helps, low ceiling and about 20 X 15'.
I like that it has a headphone jack and I can take it anywhere. It won't play over a drum set and is tough with live jams if others have nice rigs, but for practice its great.
@music8stuart Sorry, I can't help it if Geddy messed it up. He should have been playing the bass. Check out duilkin and ricardobender, they both did a great job with this.
@vtx1300dave the musical dynamics of this song are centered around the switch from synth bass to bass guitar.geddy lee didn't get it wrong dude........you just don't get it.....................
O, those are the Squires I dont like. I prefer the ones with 3 pickups. ie: One long one across the entire bridge. They sound so much better. They give a lot more tones from one guitar. But, nice playing. Thoses are just my views.
there's a great Fender model called a P-Bass Deluxe, P body, Jazz Neck, P & J pups and they're active...it's about $600-650, and it's really cool, you should look it up...keep jammin' on that Rush !!
Hey! Nice playing, I just have a question, whats the diffrence betewwn a precision bass and a jazz bass? In sound and that, and which (maybe a silly question) but bass are best for playing like metal with ? :P Cheers!
Thanks. The two basses are very different, I would research it if I were you... I can't cover it all here.
What it really all comes down to is YOUR needs as a musician, and its Your job to realize those needs so that when you talk to a professional about differences in guitars you know what questions to ask.
I believe that all basses have different tonal qualities due to materials, craftsmanship, design, etc. Most tonal qualities come from the player though.
I think when defining my needs two important ones are sound and comfort. If you are comfortable you can play longer and faster and execute more complex and different sounds.
Maybe a thinner neck like on the jazz bass may help you with speed or fingering patterns. Or if you're looking for a roomier right-hand area (assuming you're righty) you may prefer the P-bass's fewer pickups.
These are just a few differences and there are many more,... just do some homework
@Whiplasher1337 the big differences being the dual single coil pups on the Jazz & one big fat split single coil on the P-Bass...Jazz will give u a wide range of tones from reggae thump to Ged Lee/Squire/Entwistle ringing, stinging top-end...the P-Bass is geared towards big fundamentals, like Sting, Rog Waters, Tom Hamilton, it's a bottom-heavy with no overtones and huge sustain..the Jazz neck is also a slimmer profile for faster runs, P is a wider fretboard and deeper profile for sustain..
@mineheadX1 Thanks for the help with that one,... good job.
I am not happy with my sustain though. In fact, it's very bad. I understand an upgrade in electronics isn't a bad idea, and as long as we're on the subject, it's tone-woods are also entry-level.
I haven't played a "real" P-bass so I won't disagree with what you're saying, but I always wondered if the extra grand was worth it.
@vtx1300dave Hey my man -- great song to cover! With regards to sustain, there are three things that I can think of that will have an immediate impact -- 1) Try using a compressor to even out the sound, 2) Trash the current bridge and get a new one from Guitar Fetish dot com -- cheap, easy, and EXCELLENT, and 3) replace the plastic nut with a better one -- your local guitar shop will be able to recommend several that will be waaay better than the stock one.
@aansar Great suggestions. I researched a company (luthier) I found on ebay who disassembles the whole guitar, fills all the drill holes and re-mounts all the hardware, etc. Basically tightens everything up. Sorry I don't remember the name.
I installed new pups for a pretty good improvement, when I post my next vid you will notice. I didn't really think the bridge would make a huge difference and I never thought about the nut. I will definitely check out these options, thanks.
@Martyr9991 ... I gave some thought to this, short answer -roundwounds.
I enjoy a punchy treble-y sound with a fat low end. I am always trying to find that sound. Having visited a few bass player forums I notice people get hung up on "settings" with their equipment like amps, effects and even mods to their instrument.
I always practice with an ear on tonal quality and constantly work on it. Deadening unwanted sounds is part of the gig. Mess with the effects after learning good technique
@vtx1300dave Perfect statement! I totally agree with you. A lot of time I practice my bass without it plugged in to anything. It's amazing how many different tones you can get just from your hands. When the bass sounds good "off" it's amazing how much better it sounds plugged in. That's not to detract anything from this video though. I really enjoyed it, and so does the guy who shared it with us :) Thanks!
@audiotrax2000 Thanks. And, you know, thanks for your "off" idea. I only play unplugged rarely and out of necessity. Like if I want to be on the deck and if I don't want to go through the trouble to move my rig. But I haven't recently played unplugged with purpose. I'm sure that can only help. Thanks again I'm gonna do it more.
While we're on the subject about improving our playing,... read the next post.
@audiotrax2000 I have from time to time played music through the headphones but did not plug in through them, but i was recording the bass.
You ever hear about... Who's the deaf classical composer?.... Beethoven? My apologies, I don't remember... But he wrote classic pieces of music but couldn't hear a thing.
I've practiced before with intent on not hearing my playing, but completely FEELING my playing through my hands. I want to be able to FEEL the notes and not have to rely on hearing.
@vtx1300dave That's interesting - -never thought of that one before. I know Brian Eno experimented with that on a few of his songs. I think he sang without listening to the backing tracks. I'm going to try it :)
