Ovechkin may be the MVP but who won the Stanley Cup???... Oh yea Sidney Crosby and the Pens! So Ovechkin can choke on his MVP like the Caps do every year!
Wow. Sidney Crosby isn't even that good. He's a terrible player who just gets deflections. Malkin is the best Penguin. I respect Malkin. I don't respect Crosby though.
RE: Crosby, you said, "He's a terrible player who just gets deflections" You obviously are just saying that because you are a Capitals fan. I'm a penguins fan but I can admit that no one in the game has a shot like Ovechkin. You should be honest with yourself and you will realize that no one has the combination of skilss ( skating, vision, hands, strength) like Crosby. Who is better? we could argue all day about that, but a terrible player, c'mon.
I have to agree that Dats is the best overall player in the NHL. If you look at this year's stats, Dats had a higher production rate than Ovie, Malkin and Crosby, meaning he scored more points per amount of time given than any of those three. So that's great for Datsyuk's offense.
Defensively the guy is top 7 in faceoffs, second most take aways, but unlike Malkin he gave away significantly less. His plus minus was great, and his nearest high scorer was way below any of the Cap/Pen supporters.
no because you have to remeber crosby missed 8 games so Crosby would have even beat malkin but im from pittsburgh but i'll agree datsyuk is an amayzing player
noooo he wouldn't beat Dats in points assuming their production level would stay the same. Datsyuk scored MORE OFTEN given the amount of ice time that he played than Crosby, Ovie, and Malkin...that's what the production stat is for, it shows who uses their time better...and Datsyuk and Semin were top two in the league.
You're right, but remember that the Crosby/Malkin powerplay was without a good scoring defenseman for over 2/3 of the season. Dats played with Lindstrom and Rafalski throughout. Not saying Dats isn't the best player, just making a case that he had an advantage that Sid and Geno did not considering Gonchar was out so long.
It's true that Gonch was out for a while, but I think if you let one missing guy hurt you that much, then that says something about your individual abilities. I think Geno and Crosby are good enough to not have to rely on Gonchar even though obviously he's great at the back...and even if they did get more points per ice time, their lack in defense/face off in comparison to Datsyuk would still lack the depth in comparison to Pavel in my opinion.
You have a point, but we don't know what Dats' numbers would be if he were missing one of his two key defensemen on the PP for 3/4 of the season. I don't think Geno needed to "rely" on Gonch, seeing as he still finished #1. I disagree with you when you talk of lack in defense. Geno ranked #1 in takeaways this season.
Malkin did have the most take aways, but compared to Datsyuk he also had SIGNIFICANTLY more give-aways...Datsyuk still had the best ratio in terms of steals and losses, so Dats takes that....Malkin also played over 2 minutes of ice per game than Datsyuk, had Datsyuk played that much more ice he'd catch up in the take aways for sure since he only lost by a few. Malkin and Crosby are the only pp line for Pittsburgh, Detroit shared pp time a lot more so Malkin saw it much more than Datsyuk as well.
Once again, you make good points. I personally think it's splitting hairs when you talk about any of the top guys in the NHL and you try to declair one single guy the lone best player. Malkin led the league in scoring, had the most takeaways, and Datsyuk had less ice time, shared time with great lines, etc. They're both great players. If you want to say Dats stands alone as the best right now, I'll just say that there is an argument to be made.
GO CAPITALS AND OVECHKIN, check out my video for OVIE

Yes you're right, it's short for Spetznaz but "spetz" on it's own is a short version of the Russian word "Spetzalnoye" which means "special" haha.
