The US had every advantage?

Technologically maybe, not tactically that's for sure.

Insurgents like Viet Cong have advantage when they get to choose when and where to ambush people, set up traps, etc. Not to mention they were guerrilla warfare experts in the jungle which they've been fighting in for past 20 years before the war. Meanwhile US troops were young kids who weren't even soldiers forced to go to some country to save people they didn't care about.
