  • Der Hammer!

  • 1:02 *clap clap*

  • just what i was looking for, thanks

  • Idk a white guy playing the djembe????

  • SICK!!!!

  • There's somthing funny about an accomplished djembe player in his element. its all about the fun. nice rhythm man

  • I wouldn't call this hip hop, it is authentic djembe notes with his own creative style. This is how a djembe should be played, and held, and sound like for the size of its head surface. Out of at least 25 djembe videos here today, this was by far the best playing & sound so far.

  • Cool performance cool grooves God Bless

  • For some reason, I was just waiting to hear the intro melody to "I Just Can't Wait to be King" in the beginning

  • Hey man can you suggest me any websites from where i can learn some of these more complex faster patterns?? I have already watched your video more then 10 timez... just love it!!! Thanks :)

  • @fahimmurshed Hi, Thanks for your comments. What I mainly do is play drumset hiphop grooves and fill it, with sixteenth and triple-sixteenth, if it is called that way. The triplets get a strong accent every third hit. Start slow, speed it up, when slow tempo is smooth. Then operate this thing into the grooves, just try out, keep the best sounding trys in mind and have fun. Keep on, Thanks again, Matthias

  • @fahimmurshed

just practice alot ! ive been drumming on my desk for years, bought a djembe and mastered it in just a few weeks !

you can actually learn the ritme.

  • MAN IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST DJEMBE DRUMMING VIDEO ON YOUTUBE!!! TNX!

  • Place the mic underneath the djembe man

  • @KirkTheGod actually, you can't get those pops with it under the djembe, and you can still get most of the bass coming off the head. Some people use two mics, but one good one is usually enough. He couid move it closer though, and that would bring out the bass a lot more.

Actually, if you put a mic directly under a djembe (or worse yet, inside it), the drum will act as one big Helmholtz resonator and you'll get some really nasty feedback.

  • inspiring to say the least

  • You are the best...at least this beat is amazing...keep on going with the good work:)

  • Nice playing.

  • Très bon ,merci

  • very cool and bouncy. thanks for posting!

  • As a fellow djembe enthusiast, I appreciate your style good sir!

  • Music is a 'Freedom Of Expression' - Always has been, always will be. I've heard many a 'HipHop' track which have impossible drums Ie:- To play live would take 2 or more drummers! - Which is fake, and born of a ComputerBased Studio. This however, could of been played 100's of years ago.. and beyond the if ever there was a breakdown of the PC's and the internet! :o)

  • thats awesome!!

  • this is pretty goog

  • Muito Bom !! :D

  • super from belgium

  • we are all at different places in our lives and music, there is no right, just in the right place you need at the time. I have played drums awhile now and my taste and style is always evolving. Let a guy be free to do his thing without an opinion about it being the wrong way to play or an insult to culture. I'm just your average white guy that loves an African beat, American, Indian, Japanese, Chinese and on and on. Music evolves and is here on the planet for our enjoyment, we are creative.

  • That was very cool!.

  • beautiful! the djembe is such an art that can be used so many ways. love it

  • This is kickin', cos what you got happening here is originality along with a wonderful sense of rhythm.

  • Looks so unenthusiastic

  • Nice!!! I love djembes so much. The only drum that feels natural to me.

That sounds rocking. I love how you hold off on the bass in the beginning.

I don't even realize your djembe can go lower, then BAM, you hit it. Boom tap.

and it's like rich. it is strange listening to somebody else play the Djembe. I am use to my own playing style.

  • this is funcky rithm, no hip hop, good but no traditional, you can do the same with congas

  • yyyeaaaaa trop bien mec tu assure!

  • good stuff man :)

  • Yeah we'll see if your smartass says anything after I do post something.

  • This guy must've watched his own video 194,000 times. The other 169 were just on accident. For related videos, type "4 year old plays djembe" in the search bar.

  • Not that good. Wasn't bad but don't understand the amount of views. Didn't have very good beats and didn't mix it up much

  • Finally a real hip hop beat on the djembe.

  • o.o wow your a proffesian ??

  • This djembe has AWESOME bass, Anyone know what brand/style it is???

  • nice...I have a similar style actually...

  • my name is Matthias Maccabee! also a djembe player!!! lol. you are great brotha keep up the good work!!! I play a very similar style as you. my vid quality is low cuz these are very old vids but check out my stuff too!!! cheers and keep it up brotha!!

  • Dude your an inspiration to me dont listen to any one els you will get better always even when your good.

  • upload your video, Let us hear! :) we can learn from eachother

  • @46FERNANDO maybe you sound is really sucks.

  • good playing

but that was not hip hop

  • Listen to the first 18 seconds of this and then listen to "Business Time" by Flight of the Conchords. Savage :)

  • Hallo Matthias, schönes Solo, und eine interessante Location!

Viele Grüsse nach Alverdissen auch an Claudia

    Seh euch hoffentlich im Februar

    Werner

  • Nice ... i like it !!

  • the clapping is cute

  • i was waiting for u to break it down and start throwin out rhymes the whole time lol

  • klingt nicht schlecht.

Der Kurs heute war auch gut.

    weiter so

  • very nice man gave me some nice ideas too..

  • Lov ed it! Keep up the great work! ;) And personally I think that any man who can play an instrument like that is dam sexxxy so shut up all you assholes out there who can't respect someone's art!!

  • this guy is using conga drum patterns!

  • ooh, its quite nice actually. simple :)

you should have another person with you varying it a bit though!

  • MY MAN MY MAN< ROCK ON

    SOme cool ass shit bro!

  • Simple...effective, I like it :D

  • Lets see your vid of you doing better I really like this guy.

  • i would if i had a video camera, i reckon i could do a better job, but thats just an opinion, i'm glad you like it :)

  • if you can treat a woman with the same skills you treat the djembe she will never let you go!!

    awesome job

  • just jokin...sorry....

  • Awesome, man!!!!!!!!

    great job!

  • parabéns cara vc é bom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey next time, put a mic up under the drum too, then it picks up more the bass sounds while picking up the higher hits from the top, double mic'ing for djembes is always better, good job tho

  • art is about creativity, he didnt tell you he doesnt know how to play it traditionally either

  • @leeyatding how the hell would you know that? I know how to play djembe traditionally, but I choose to take advantage of the versatility of the drum and play it non-conventionally most of the time. It usually fits with modern (non-african) genres better when played in a non-traditional way and I use it to create a beat to accompany rock and folk music.

  • @leeyatding Art is not merely about creativity, friend, but as much, if not more so, beauty. and no i am not disagreeing with you.

  • @BelovedJohnny I think you missed the point...

  • you fucking idiot. music is art and art is creating. this guy is bad ass at what he does. all you fucking haters out there who get mad cause people pick up instruments and innovate, shut the fuck up and go back to your music class and continue your structured shit while real motherfuckers keep innovating. nice drmming my dude. and nice comment mpolson74. i appreciate that.

  • You could have gotten your point across without all the swearing...

the swearing actually does quite a bit to discredit you - even if your point has validity. Just some honest feedback...

  • how do swear words discredit me? i was mad. take it for what it is! thank you for YOUR honest opinion though

  • Man it is super obvious dat u dunnu wut is music...man dis guy is doin hiphop rythem on these drums..hiphop...and he has done a gr8 job in doin hiphop rythem on dat...it is creative

  • @bigmdoubleprojekt like your spelling :)

    Man, art is everywhere!

All over the damn place, whether awesome or asinine.

  • awesome. great stuff.

  • R E W E L A C J A !!!

  • it's ok I was expecting more bass notes

  • killed it

  • danke.

  • I like it, flows well and feels very smooth, like hip hop!

  • Hip-hop beats have bass.

  • he's beats also have bass

  • CleverDjembe huh!?

You don't here the bass note? Or are you implying it needs more to be hip-hop? I think it is his interpretation of hip-hop beats which is hip-hop in itself. Hip Hop is an attitude as well and brother personifies it with his smile and lively beats and attittude. I particularly like the hand claps which give it a sense of human vibrations as well. ONE

  • You said it well, man! I think it's probably just poor recording quality. Those instruments sound amazing when hear in person. Peace

  • j'adore !!!

  • to tell you the truth, I don't like this video much. Traditional djembe playing sounds much better than that. try that instead of hip hop. Hip hop djembe is like 'afraid to make any noise while playing' style. :D

  • -- this style mixes in nicely with more "traditional" djembe -- if its done right.

That being said I know exactly what you mean.

    :)

  • On the other side of the spectrum, I'm not a huge fan of traditional djembe playing; I prefer more hybridized styles.

  • how big is this in diameter?

  • dude i love you flow aman im mostly a set player but i just got big into playing djemebes I really think they make you a better percussionist over all keep it up.

  • groovy....I like

  • well done, next time, place the microphone at the end of the djembe foot, that's where the sound is coming from, we'll be able to hear the bass better

  • It's just crazy to me that this only has 4 stars with those slap tones and flams you got going for you. If this was a hot girl playing half as well or some hippie playing faster but w/o any slaps this would get 5 stars easy, its just ridiculous.

  • dashowest00, I hate to see the anonymity of the internet make someone so comfortable insulting people the way you are. So I ask you, Anthony, what would Mr. White think of you if he knew the things you were saying right now?

  • he would probably also see the lame drumz being played. being the connoisseur he is. and its the internet like you said. so dont get too bent up about the insults. =) and mxm190 has obviously never listened to Uyama Hiroto or Nujabes or the Juggaknots or any of the true hiphop artists.

  • By any chance would you gents be refering to Larry or Walter White?

  • i like it .

  • Your doing this all wrong, to be real hip hop style you have to screem the F-word every few beats and then raise your 9mm finger gun after every bass stroke.

  • Theres no way he is playing that, lawls!

  • Dashowest00 -only a queer in denial would be so abusive. You've got problems buddy and it ain't just your knowledge of music.

  • oh yeah -by the way, that video you've put on youtube is the lamest thing I've ever seen. Let's see how you play Djembe then -stick something up for us to look at

  • you dont even wanna see me djembe after watching this video, this vid looks bad enough.

  • shutup you wouldnt know real music if it was actually playing on these lame ass radio stations you listen to today. and i know that joke got you haha dis negro tried to say it was lame. nice comeback with the "intelligent" im so grown up bullshit. just shut the fuck up. k thanks. =)

  • My apology's to holzfell or anyone else who have had to read these stupid tit 4 tat comments. Sorry' but some people don't seem to get it.

  • So dashowest00' u have a 5 year old daughter?

Damn man! Don't u think its time to grow up.

These comment's u' likerollinstone' and fuckycum (like' what kinda bullshit name is that?) have done nothing but make u stick your own foot in you're mouths. U all come off as being very child'ish. And what difference does it make if this guys white or black (Spangenberg sounds jewish' which is fine by me) That's why I call u racist.

Skin color seems to bother u. Or is that just a lil bit bitch I smell?

  • And 4 this other person who decided 2 put in

there 2cents. There online name speaks 4 its self.

  • That's what I'm talking about' u see people like dashowest00 and likerollinstone' all they can do is show nothing but disrespect and bad mouth others who don't think like they do. Why?

Mostly ignorance' and I notice dashowest00 comes off as a racist.

  • msawbe you are just whack at the djembe. either delete this video or at least change the name. my 5 year old daughter can play better than this.

  • Hey dashowest00' that's not me playing jembe.

Like I said before' you're ignorant.

And a racist. Other then a few well worded comments' in response to some very immature and profanity laced remarks' u know nothing about me.

  • Really nice!

  • "Don't let no one steel your dancing shoes!!!"

I liked it very much! Keep up the good work and enjoy!!

  • Ok' likerollinstone. U just answered my questions. Myself' yes I can play a jembe as well alot of other instruments and I can write lyrics too. I can rap when I feel it' but I prefer singing' cause I think it take more skill to do so. What else can u do' besides taking shit? And it seem u don't even do that very well.

  • ur a clown, u think ur hard u aint,i play djmebe an loads other instruments, an if u cant appreciate hip hop get out the way cuz ur too old 2 understand, for the times r a changin

  • Well then' come on and hang out in D.C. I'll show what being hard is all about. We got lottsa rappers 'n' poets. Lotsa thugs 'n' thug wannabe's. NYC' been there and done that too.

LA' hell.... I was born in south central' but I stand by what I say and yes' the times they are a-changing' but musically not always 4 the better. Go back' and check out people like Louis Armstrong' Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker from the 30s 'n'40s and tell me that todays music' with all the fake sampling is better

  • 1 last thing' I never said I didn't appreciate Hip-hip' when its inventive and positive' it has real value. Not when its bragging about guns' money' bitches' and disrespect' which very prevalent in hip-hops music and life style. A good example' the way u been addressing me in you're comments.

  • sounds nice but nothing extraordinaray do i see;)

  • What are you kidding me??!!

    Give the man some props!

    He is absolutely fantastic!!!!!

Unbelievable the beats he put out right there with his own 2 hands solo.

    Bella! Bella! Bella!!!

  • i agree, i jave djembe i and can't to that sound even the way he plays, wich person gots his sound =D

  • Very cool.

  • Its cool drumming' I'm just sick of the term Hip-Hop. Back in the late 70s everything that was funky sounding was called Disco. Now its Hip-Hop. James Brown just called it soul.

To me its just music' thats all. People always have lable things.

  • true words

  • i label you a douche

  • Hey likerollinstone' can u even play a jembe' or are u just skilled at taking trash?

Cause what I hear in alot of what they lable Hip-hop is just that. Alotta trashy rhyming and not much real musical talent. There I said it.

Also if u took the name likerollinstone from Dylan's song' please give it back.

Rapper's could learn a thing or 2 from Dylan.

Like how to rhyme with good taste and elquent.

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • any tips on how i can get my djembe to sound like that?

  • A good! Djembe, much tension on the skin, and a bad microphone :-)

  • it has to be a baby goat skin.male .the best sound ever.and u can put it in the sun for a while or warm it up with light bulb and then play.that s how we do in africa.

  • thnks alot for that, i recently got my djembe str8 from africa with the goat fur around the edges.. idk if it was a baby goat r not but it delivers good sounds on a weekly basis, but im still not entirely sure how to tune it.. any tips on that?

  • Work it oooooouuuuut...PLAY it!!!

  • AWESOME holy shit he is great

  • Nice groovin! Vindt dit wel goed

  • Well done

  • ik snap niet waarom iedereen hier zo negatiev is hij is goed en ik kan het weten ik kan zelf namelijk heel goed djembe spelen

  • i dunno why these two guys here below me are that negative, but this beat is calm and not so fast like more of these movies... he's not off beat anyway and i dont know what movie you've seen, but i dont see any dancers in here...

on-topic: great beat man... i'm bored to my own beats so i'm going to use your beats... TY

  • Boring... You sure you know how to play Djembe?

  • i would like to see you do it

  • HotshoT's right. It's not traditional play and technique, but it's quite nice to hear.. Big up.

  • Go to a West African Dance Class with live music, and you will see the difference. In DJEMBE there are multiple beats played by one person, that multiple dancers can dance to, and niether of them would be off beat. I will give him kudos for at least TRYING, especially in trying to understand an art from my culture!

  • is it cuz ur unco?

  • THIS IS NOT DJEMBE. I DANCE DJEMBE AND SABAR. HIP HOP IS HOP, DJEMBE IS DJEMBE AND TRYING TO SAY THIS IS HIP HOP DJEMBE IS AN INSULT TO BOTH GENRE'S. Now, if you are just trying to learn to keep a beat on the drum, and your trying to be a little fancy by throwing in a hand clap or two, then I guess this is for you.

  • fucking awesome, one of the best

  • nice rhythm man well liked

  • top an bottom end mic's works every time, great drumming rhythm, come and check me out some time

  • Up there as one of my favorite djembe sounds.

  • Search for "Nils Wedin" for some great djembe play!

  • this is my favorite solo on youtube

    so much rhythm

    keeps me interested

    i'm trying to learn

  • love it

  • hey guys watch my video on playing djemebe!! ive been playing for a bit!!! and wow this guy is good!!! fast and good rhythms!! and wow nice style!!!

  • Nice work!

  • Hey look its the captain of the international Donkey Konga tournament team!

  • a good tip; place the mic under drum, not over ;)

  • it does look massive, why does it sound like its so much smaller?

  • cause mic sucks

  • man that djembe is massive

  • *yawn*

  • poor

  • at 48 seconds your time FELL off. The claps are OK. Learn congas, they're more fun and useful.

  • hahaha.. at 1:00 (the first set of clapping).. threw me completely off and had me laughing because of how weak those claps were..

you're good at drummin but you should work on your clapping... teehee

  • Go into a recording studio take a mic like his and clap: you will hear just like his clapping.

  • good job
