Great to see the video again, I have video of the heat, semi final, and final from Albertville but I have no idea how to get it on you tube. It's on VHS. Unfortunately I don't think any of the team have video from Lillehammer. I would love to get the '92 Olympic video on you tube some time.
Yip, you got it pretty much all right. I was the reserve in the team and skated in the '92 and '94 Winter Olympics. We miss the Bronze medal in Albertville '92 by only .7 sec. South Korea won Gold, Canada the Silver, Japan the Bronze.
The cameraman was actually a woman - Cindy Meyer, a skater from South Africa. She got so excited that she switched the camera off as they crossed the line.
Some interesting facts: Chris Nicholson is one of only 2 NZers to compete at both a winter and summer Olympics. He competed in the 100km team trial in cycling at Barcelona. Chris was also the national road cycling champion in 1991. One of the skaters in the Australian team - Stephen Bradbury - went on to win Olympic gold in the 1000m in Salt Lake City in 2002 when the other 4 skaters crashed in the final. There is now a saying in Aussie - 'To do a Bradbury'.
Hi - You pretty much got the facts right. The skaters were (in order) Chris Nicholson, Mike McMillen, Matthew Biggs and Andrew Nicholson. The reserve was Tony Smith. The other teams were Italy, Australia and USA. USA crash after 4 laps and are lapped.
