@Aymdicate Really, it depends. If you're considering a Mac, just go for it. Chances are if you're considering one, you really want one to try it out. I particularly like them for school because I think OS X (Mac operating system equivalent to Windows) is great for school. MacBook Airs are great laptops for school. If you're looking to do work, you may want to consider a MacBook Pro. They have a lot of power, a lot of RAM possibilities, and storage options.
How the hell are you comparing Mac Book Pro and Alienware, SIMPLY THIS TWO RIGS ARE AIM AT TWO DIFFERENT USERS, Mac for daily computing needs and video editing. The Alienware is for those hardcore gamers which the alienware is design for
@hjtjl I'm a student and wanted to compare the computers from the perspective of a student buying a computer. I could have bought the Alienware for cheaper that had better specs but is heavy and big or I could buy the MacBook Pro that's more expensive that doesn't have all the specs but is slim and is better for school.
The 17" MacBook Pro is a desktop replacement too lol. The CPU scores of the CPU in the MBP is almost equal to the desktop version. Also, one can add 16GB of RAM in the 17" MBP.
@AreMacsOverpriced Alienware m17x can upgrade to 24GB of Ram, GPU can be GTX 580m or AMD 6990m. With up to i7-2860QM. How can MBP compete with that. A customized m17x is the closest thing to a desktop. Where MAC specs aren't even close it only shows its 17 inch screen(But I also prefer MAC if I'm going to use it for school purposes only). Where Alienware is purely for gaming basically alienware has no free softwares for computing and daily work because its MADE TO GAME
@hjtjl How? Easy: 16GB of RAM, 6770m, i7-2860QM and a 1920x1200 aspect ratio. You realize that people use their MacBook Pros as desktop replacements right? You don't need 24GB of RAM to do that; hell, you don't need 16GB to do that. You probably just need 8GB at the most. It's really the CPU and storage space and type that determine what it a desktop replacement.
Do you not think it's sad that you can buy an Alienware that has a graphics processor around twice as powerful, a processor around 20% faster, and 4 times as much (faster 1600mhz) ram then your little configured Macbook Pro for still 100 dollars less? I think it's pathetic.
@steenkypeet No, because, to me, buying an Anlienware is like buying a PC without an OS. You can all the powerful parts in the world but if you don't have an OS, they're useless.
You also need to remember that these 2011(!!!) MacBook Pros have been out for a LONG time. Of course, Alienware as updated their line 2 times over by now, making this MBP look bad. Wait for the refresh, huh?
BTW, I don't play these Laptop games. My next laptop will be a MacBook Air; I have a 12-core Mac Pro for work.
@AreMacsOverpriced I actually did reconfigure the Macbook specs my self...and I carry the Alienware I have in a school bag with everything else, It doesn't matter that the mac weighs less. I like the Alienwares design better, it's more interesting. The Apple design is pretty boring really.. maybe kind of nice looking though. The biggest reason for any Alienware is graphics. The top graphics you can get for a Mac is less then the lowest for an Alienware, and I like all my games maxed out.
@steenkypeet The smallest Alienware weighs just as much as this 17" notebook. The M17x weighs almost double what the 17" MBP weighs: weight DOES matter. The two computers I compared has similar processors, RAM, etc. The only difference is the GPU and resolution of the display.
Again, if I wanted to game on my laptop, I'd play on my Mac Pro, which maxes out every game. Well, it maxes out Battlefield 3 so I assume it maxes every game atm.
@AreMacsOverpriced The Radeon 6770M won't even get BF3 past 25fps on high..my m17x more than doubles that. I would call 25fps really playable even. And on ultra the Mac gets >10fps. The Mac doesn't even get close to maxing out games...it can't even handle BF3 on high...

@steenkypeet I was not ever going to buy either of these computers; I believe I even said that in the video. This was just a "what if" scenario if I would buy a 17" computer.
The reasons why I bought the Mac Pro are not the reasons why I'd buy a laptop - you know that, right? I do serious video editing on my Mac Pro and I kind of wanted the expandability of the unit. Weight is nothing to contest because it's a workstation.
@steenkypeet As for the price of the computer. The cost of the two X5650s alone reaches $2,000 haha. Get out of here with that $1,500-$2,000 ignorance.
My computer has two of those CPUs, do the math and it's $2,007.98 - without tax.
Can you add up all of the rest of the parts and get below what I paid? Sure, but you'll be going below all other OEMs and be stuck without OS X Lion, iCloud and the software I use.
@hjtjl Mac Pros don't com with 6770m's lol. Yeah, that's Mac Pro, not MacBook Pro. My Mac Pro has the two Intel Xeon X5650's and came with a 6870 1GB. I can install any GPU I wish as well......as long as it fits in the case, of course.
@hjtjl No, because desktops don't need overpowered GPUs. The biggest applications that use GPUs are??? GAMES. Whether a computer can game or not doesn't mean it's a desktop replacement; thats a stupid thing to say. If someones business is video editing, they can run their business completely on their MacBook Pro. Photoshop works great on the high resolution display too. And the title says: "2011 17" MacBook Pro vs Alienware M17x. Read much?
If that is true, then why is Apple offering only budget-level video gaming cards, instead of proper workstation-level cards like the Quadro? Hell, even DELL is offering the correct hardware for a workstation of that caliber, like the T7500. Where is Apple's head, exactly?
You might be right about the average user not needing a powerful GPU, but the Mac shouldn't cost BEYOND what a high-performance gaming computer costs, if it can't actually play games well.
@MaestroDraven Pt. 1 If what is true? You kind of jumped in and I don't know what you're talking about.
Yes, workstation GPUs are more stable over time, so it makes sense to add them in......workstations. However, The baseline AMD FireMV 2260 that comes standard is only $109. Pretty much any modern GPU outperforms WS GPUs, but if you truly needed a Workstation GPU, you could simply buy one. It's not like the 2260 has more value than the 6770. Like I said, the 2260 isn't a $5k card.
@MaestroDraven Pt. 2 Workstations aren't know for their graphics performance. How are you going to root for WS GPUs and not even know what they're meant for? The Mac Pro can game well, it has a 5870. If you're referring to the MacBook Pro then you have to consider that it's a laptop, so it'll cost more anyways. On top of that, high-performance gaming computers aren't portable. The MacBook Pro is thin as all hell. That's besides the point that, again, the MacBook Pros CAN game well.
- I think you're missing the point. The Mac Pro is a workstation, not meant for gaming. Why is Apple sticking pathetic, outdated and absolutely dismal 5870s into their Mac Pro builds, instead of a workstation-class card?
It's $4999 for a 12-Core Mac Pro base config. They could easily throw in a workstation-class card for that price. Do you know what the profit margin is on that Mac? It's OBSCENE.
@MaestroDraven I'm not missing the point, pal; in fact, if you would have read my PM properly you'd have seen that the point of me mentioning so is for the fact that it has value. The 5870s performance is in the top 15 GPUs. It was announced in 2009. Again, if you need a workstation class GPU, you're probably not going to keep the included 256MB AMD card that's included with the unit.
Well, Dell could also easily throw in a "workstation-class" card worth more than $100, but did they?
No, you are missing the point, 100%. Sorry. The 5870 is an obsolete LIGHTWEIGHT compared to what's currently shipping, and was meant for videogaming.....not workstation level performance like the 2GB Nvidia Quadro 4000s that ship standard with all T7500s. Obviously, Dell has got it right, while Apple has got it SO, SO wrong.
Don't argue with me on this please. It just makes you look excruciatingly silly.
Case in point: the 12-Core Mac Pro. $4999, yet it can't defeat an SR-2 Classified 12-Core PC build running around $2999, with better, faster components.
Similarly, RAM. Apple uses Hynix, and charges $600 to upgrade to 16GB. Meanwhile, ultra-high performance G.Skill RAM with 2133Mhz clock speeds is selling in 16GB kits for $150 bucks.
Where is my money going when I buy a Mac? OSX? That's $30 bucks. iLIfe? That's $40 bucks. I'm not seeing it.
@MaestroDraven Pt. 3 You're now missing the point of buying a workstation. The Mac Pro's logic board is custom built. It allows for brainless access to all the components without tearing the whole case apart. That saves time, that saves money.
Second, workstation RAM isn't clocked higher than 1333MHz. ECC memory, like workstation class GPUs and CPUs, is under clocked to boost reliability. And, I just bought 16GB of ECC memory for $127 on OWC. Never buy OEM memory, bro.
It may save time.....a whole 5 minutes. It doesn't save money......not by a long shot. If you crack open the side case on a PC, you can access all your components very quickly. Even Origin ships their PCs with hard drives on sliders that click right into the motherboard without any problems. Apple isn't the first to do it, but it's not exactly necessary.
@MaestroDraven Well, no, if you use your computer to play games it doesn't save money, but 5 minutes adds up to more productivity over a day/week/month/year. Can you take out the whole CPU to access the RAM without "cracking open the entire case?" I never said Apple was the first to do it. You REALLY need to learn how to read. And it is necessary if your gaol is to remain the upmost productive, say, if you worked for a company?
ECC RAM is slower than conventional RAM, and only meant for servers, so why is Apple throwing it in Mac Pros?
When's the last time you had a workstation crash due to RAM? I've never, in 15 years of being a digital artist, visual effects artist, and a music composer, suffered a crash like that. The myth of ECC superiority is just that...... a myth.
@MaestroDraven ECC RAM isn't only meant for servers lol. ECC RAM is meant for any computer that executes a process for long periods of time. RAM failure doesn't only result in crashing, it also results in performance hiccups and slowing rowing down. It's amazing how wrong you are. I actually don't believe you work in any of those fields lol.
ECC RAM was designed SPECIFICALLY for servers. Again, don't argue with me. The very nature of a server environment means that ECC serves as an advantage, whereas workstations and home PCs do not, in any way, shape or form benefit from its presence
Again, show me how ECC RAM benefits a workstation better than conventional RAM. I've heard all the excuses. NONE at up.
It's amazing how wrong YOU are, guy. Sorry, but you're way out of your league when you talk to me.
@MaestroDraven ECC RAM is RAM for workstations. Holy moly, stop being acting so stupid. ECC RAM is used when ANY computer is handling workloads over long periods of time. I HAVE HAD application slow downs and application crashes because of RAM + CPU issues. THAT'S WHY PEOPLE BUY WORKSTATIONS. ANY COMPUTER DOING A TASK FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME CAN BENEFIT FROM ECC RAM.
Shit, the T7500 comes with ECC RAM. HPs Z series comes with ECC RAM. STOP ACTING SO STUPID.
@MaestroDraven Pt. 4 So to conclude, you've jumped from Workstation GPU arguments to desktop motherboard arguments to desktop RAM arguments. That's a pretty inconsistent picture as a whole.
Apple can get away not including quadros because the GPU they included has more value than lower end workstation GPUs. In fact, you can still buy workstation GPUs on Apples site, they just don't come with the Mac Pro.
If you want, I'll reiterate through a PM why workstations cost more, step by step.
@MaestroDraven 5870s aren't obsolete. By the way, I noticed a while back that you never mention the "proper workstation-class video card" that comes with the T7500. I'll do the copy paste routine then.
Dell.com: T7500 baseline GPU is the 256MB ATI FireMV® 2260
Newegg price: 256MB ATI FireMV 2260- $104 to $119.
Newegg price: 1GB AMD 5770- $89 to $119.
Newegg price: 1GB AMD 5870- out of stock
Amazon price: 1GB AMD 5870 used- $150, brand new- $235 and up, WAY UP.
I just did. 2GB Quadro 4000. Starting price = $750.00
YOU LOSE. No more arguing, please. This conversation is over. You've been proven wrong on every single count, and there's simply nothing left to say regarding this matter.
@MaestroDraven Yet, it costs $960 to upgrade to it on Dell's website. I don't lose, you don't read! It's like I'm talking to a 17 year old "know it all." If you read the fine print, you won't look so god damn stupid.
Yes, this is over, you can't read. Illiteracy is such a shame at this day and age.
@TheDarkMikado *Checks your profile info on your channel*
Huh, two Canadians just happen to find my video? Not unlikely.
Two Canadian's who cap each word in their name? Not that unlikely.
Two Canadians with the same messaging habits: sending two messages when you could've sent one? A bit suspect.
Two Canadians who found my video, "know" about workstations, have similar names, show the same messaging habits, curse like 16 year old girls and can't read?
Where were you cursing? Well, you know that already.
Your competence for undercover work is uniquely uncanny yet completely recognizable. Both channels have the exact same voice lol and you're not the first PC user who thought he was so clever that I wouldn't be able to see through his little game.
@TheDarkMikado You should've at least waited a day or three before hoping on your second account. Then you could've started by agreeing with some of the things I've said but disagreeing with the big picture. I mean this was just a poor attempt at fooling child. I'm not a child lol, but I know the children who, like you, love their PC to death. I know what you children do.
Speaking as a former mac owner i have to say that this guy Maestrodraven has his info right. Sorry bud but it is just that way. Owned a mac once and never ever will i go back to that hell.
@eyeinsistGT3 The interesting fact, though is that most of all Mac users, including myself, were PC users first. Opinion isn't right. Opinion is opinion. If you want to say custom builds are cheaper, say it, I won't contest to that. If you want to say that custom builds can be more powerful than Mac under OS X, go ahead, I won't contest to that. where I have a problem is where you start degrading parts because they're not the newest thing out. The 5870 is not obsolete, it's moronic to say so.
@eyeinsistGT3 In the end, what I want you to understand is that opinion isn't fact. When he says the 5870 is obsolete, a red flag immediately does up. When he says an AMD 256GB Workstation card is better than a 5870, a red flag goes up. When he says that ECC RAM is shitty compared to performance RAM, a red flag goes up. These are all abstractions with no concrete proof. I checked out the PC alternative. In the end, I wanted OS X. I just upgraded to 20GB of RAM yesterday, so I'm one happy SOB.
those are facts though. The 5870 is out. The ECC RAM is slower than what else is being offered big time. I bought a mac because i heard all this hoopla about it being some supercomputer and at the end of the day it was a piss poor investment because i know i have a limited shelf life on the thing unless I go Mac Pro and that isn't in the cards
@eyeinsistGT3 No, they're not. That's opinion. The 5870 runs all modern games. An NVidia GeForce 6800 GT is out. NVidia does not support the card anymore, it doesn't run the latest games and it's inefficient. ECC RAM is workstation RAM. It's not meant to be as fast because it serves a different purpose. Many workstation users use 1066MHz RAM and lower to boost their max RAM amount. That's the workstation environment. You clearly don't understand that, so how could you argue against ECC?
@eyeinsistGT3 You bought a Mac because people told you it was a super computer? Are you naive? Gullible? Fourteen? Who buys a $1,000+ computer because someone else tells them to? And piss poor investment? You know Macs hold their value way better than other PCs, right? I actually don't believe you bought a Mac. I was humoring you at first, but it's not worth it anymore. You're either stupid (to try to fool me) or naive, maybe both. My 2009 iMac is going for $1,500 on ebay, by the way.
Believe it or not, I am actually waiting for the day when Apple gets it right, and starts offering computers that aren't focused 100% on maximizing their already obscene profits. Until then, no dice for me. With each Mac refresh, I just walk away disappointed. It's not up to snuff, and no amount of fact-skewing is going to fool me. The simple fact is that Macs are way too underpowered for the price point, and therefore not worth a penny of my money.
@MaestroDraven The same price as the T7500, for the thousandth time. No OEM is worth buying in your eyes because they're all more expensive than custom builds. If that's the case then stop arguing, you're not right. Opinion doesn't govern fact.
@AreMacsOverpriced Sorry, But thats so gay... i mean you can get a better computer for less why buy an expensive mac and download all this bootcamp shit.... you sir are a retard
@prezjay First of all, my priority isn't to play games all day. I go to college and worked a job until starting this semester. I need a computer that will do the work I need it to do. That's why I said I made this video from the perspective of a COLLEGE STUDENT; hence, why I made such a deal about the size and weight.
Second, you don't download bootcamp; it's preinstalled on every single Mac.
@prezjay Windows Movie maker is utter crap. I'd edit video from my phone than in Movie Maker. Powerpoint is the same way. Dude, I don't like Microsoft software: it's all clunky, ugly, expensive. See, I don't mind paying $1,300 for a MacBook Air that comes with well designed software and OS. I do mind buying the computer then releasing that the free software is free for a reason. And the M11x - which only has an 11" display - weighs as much as a 17" MacBook Pro. Piece. Of. Shit.
both are A LOT of money.. You can build a custom desktop for 1000 bucks with three times the power....Not worth getting the labtop since if you need that much power, its mostly for gaming, which you never leave the thing unplugged if gamings the case. Of course if you have the money you might aswell so its whatever you want. Wish I could get a Alienware myself but dont have the money :(
@saurianzerker desktop is stationary! you cant take it anywhere! of course you can build a huge bulky stationary machine but its not mobile thats the point of a laptop
@AreMacsOverpriced He never said they weren't beast. But it's being compared to one of the greatest laptops ever constructed. It lack behind in terms of hardware and software compared to the M17x.
@mrmotchmaster Important thing to remember is that Alienware is made for Gamers. I don't know what carrying a 17in Macbook is like, but I don't carry my 17in gaming laptop around much. I don't know if weight is much a factor... only 3lbs difference?... but more like the thickness. I have a textbook that is thinner than the M17x.
@mrmotchmaster I know it's made for gamers. I wasn't ever planning on buying either computer. Having said that, the MacBook Pro's video card isn't a slouch, though playing at native res would def. affect performance. I just wanted to show how MacBook Pro's compare to other PCs. It's a series of videos I'm hobbying (made up word) around with.
In reality I plan on custom building a PC or buying a refurbished Mac Pro.
@mrmotchmaster Yeah, I knew you could upgrade the RAM. Thing was, I thought only one slot was accessible to the user. I read you have to separate the keyboard to get access to the other.
The video was recorded and edited about a week and a half ago, I guess they just refreshed the computers.
I was configuring the computer for my needs and I have a MDP monitor so I would have to add an adapter to the M17x but I thought the screen was big enough to see what's going on without a second display.
nice review :) im contemplating on getting a mbp 17" or alienware m17x, what sells me on the mbp is how sleek an the build quality, not to mention the brilliant 1940 x 1200 display, love the m17x though
@Jak3HxC Yeah, I don't think there's a bad way to go. What matters to me most is the CPU power and the MBP has got that. It's just as a student, it's way easier to carry a 7lbs 17" computer as opposed to a 10lbs 17" computer, even it offers more GPU options and such. I'd wait though if you could. Rumor has it Apple are going to introduce new MacBooks that are thin like MacBook Airs but bigger in screen sizes. I'm going to assume they'll have the same powerful quad-core CPUs like the Pros too.
@AreMacsOverpriced
I've responded to your PM with all the facts I feel you need to know.

AreMacsOverpriced 4 days ago
@MaestroDraven Pt. 2 Workstations aren't know for their graphics performance. How are you going to root for WS GPUs and not even know what they're meant for? The Mac Pro can game well, it has a 5870. If you're referring to the MacBook Pro then you have to consider that it's a laptop, so it'll cost more anyways. On top of that, high-performance gaming computers aren't portable. The MacBook Pro is thin as all hell. That's besides the point that, again, the MacBook Pros CAN game well.
AreMacsOverpriced 4 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
" The Mac Pro can game well, it has a 5870"
- I think you're missing the point.
MaestroDraven 4 days ago
@MaestroDraven I'm not missing the point, pal; in fact, if you would have read my PM properly you'd have seen that the point of me mentioning so is for the fact that it has value. The 5870s performance is in the top 15 GPUs. It was announced in 2009. Again, if you need a workstation class GPU, you're probably not going to keep the included 256MB AMD card that's included with the unit.
Well, Dell could also easily throw in a "workstation-class" card worth more than $100, but did they?
AreMacsOverpriced 3 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
MaestroDraven 2 days ago
@MaestroDraven I don't know why you're so redundant. Do you have a few screws loose or something?
Quadro 4000 is not stock. The base package starts at the a 256MG AMD card. When you add that Quadro 4000, the price jumps from $3709 to $4559.
Conversly if you buy a Six-core Mac Pro and buy the QUadro 4000 on Newegg for $749, the price difference between the two computers is $90!!
To make $90 this big of a deal is silly in itself when talking about $4K plus workstations.
AreMacsOverpriced 1 day ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
T7500 dell precision comes with quadro4000 standard is not an upgrade shithead. check dells site
TheDarkMikado 23 hours ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
MaestroDraven 5 days ago
@MaestroDraven Pt. 3 You're now missing the point of buying a workstation. The Mac Pro's logic board is custom built. It allows for brainless access to all the components without tearing the whole case apart. That saves time, that saves money.
Second, workstation RAM isn't clocked higher than 1333MHz. ECC memory, like workstation class GPUs and CPUs, is under clocked to boost reliability. And, I just bought 16GB of ECC memory for $127 on OWC. Never buy OEM memory, bro.
AreMacsOverpriced 4 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
MaestroDraven 4 days ago
@MaestroDraven Well, no, if you use your computer to play games it doesn't save money, but 5 minutes adds up to more productivity over a day/week/month/year. Can you take out the whole CPU to access the RAM without "cracking open the entire case?" I never said Apple was the first to do it. You REALLY need to learn how to read. And it is necessary if your gaol is to remain the upmost productive, say, if you worked for a company?
AreMacsOverpriced 3 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
The myth of ECC superiority is just that...... a myth.
MaestroDraven 4 days ago
@MaestroDraven ECC RAM isn't only meant for servers lol. ECC RAM is meant for any computer that executes a process for long periods of time. RAM failure doesn't only result in crashing, it also results in performance hiccups and slowing rowing down. It's amazing how wrong you are. I actually don't believe you work in any of those fields lol.
AreMacsOverpriced 3 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
MaestroDraven 2 days ago
AreMacsOverpriced 1 day ago
@MaestroDraven Pt. 4 So to conclude, you've jumped from Workstation GPU arguments to desktop motherboard arguments to desktop RAM arguments. That's a pretty inconsistent picture as a whole.
Apple can get away not including quadros because the GPU they included has more value than lower end workstation GPUs. In fact, you can still buy workstation GPUs on Apples site, they just don't come with the Mac Pro.
If you want, I'll reiterate through a PM why workstations cost more, step by step.
AreMacsOverpriced 4 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
" the GPU they included has more value than lower end workstation GPUs."
- Really? An obsolete, dusty 5870 has more value than a proper workstation-class video card? Wow! I learn something new every day.
MaestroDraven 4 days ago
AreMacsOverpriced 3 days ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
I just did. 2GB Quadro 4000. Starting price = $750.00
YOU LOSE. No more arguing, please. This conversation is over. You've been proven wrong on every single count, and there's simply nothing left to say regarding this matter.
MaestroDraven 2 days ago
@MaestroDraven Yet, it costs $960 to upgrade to it on Dell's website. I don't lose, you don't read! It's like I'm talking to a 17 year old "know it all." If you read the fine print, you won't look so god damn stupid.
Yes, this is over, you can't read. Illiteracy is such a shame at this day and age.

eyeinsistGT3 9 hours ago
@eyeinsistGT3 The interesting fact, though is that most of all Mac users, including myself, were PC users first. Opinion isn't right. Opinion is opinion. If you want to say custom builds are cheaper, say it, I won't contest to that. If you want to say that custom builds can be more powerful than Mac under OS X, go ahead, I won't contest to that. where I have a problem is where you start degrading parts because they're not the newest thing out. The 5870 is not obsolete, it's moronic to say so.
AreMacsOverpriced 5 hours ago
@eyeinsistGT3 In the end, what I want you to understand is that opinion isn't fact. When he says the 5870 is obsolete, a red flag immediately does up. When he says an AMD 256GB Workstation card is better than a 5870, a red flag goes up. When he says that ECC RAM is shitty compared to performance RAM, a red flag goes up. These are all abstractions with no concrete proof. I checked out the PC alternative. In the end, I wanted OS X. I just upgraded to 20GB of RAM yesterday, so I'm one happy SOB.
AreMacsOverpriced 5 hours ago
@AreMacsOverpriced
those are facts though. The 5870 is out. The ECC RAM is slower than what else is being offered big time. I bought a mac because i heard all this hoopla about it being some supercomputer and at the end of the day it was a piss poor investment because i know i have a limited shelf life on the thing unless I go Mac Pro and that isn't in the cards
eyeinsistGT3 2 hours ago
@eyeinsistGT3 No, they're not. That's opinion. The 5870 runs all modern games. An NVidia GeForce 6800 GT is out. NVidia does not support the card anymore, it doesn't run the latest games and it's inefficient. ECC RAM is workstation RAM. It's not meant to be as fast because it serves a different purpose. Many workstation users use 1066MHz RAM and lower to boost their max RAM amount. That's the workstation environment. You clearly don't understand that, so how could you argue against ECC?
AreMacsOverpriced 1 hour ago
@eyeinsistGT3 You bought a Mac because people told you it was a super computer? Are you naive? Gullible? Fourteen? Who buys a $1,000+ computer because someone else tells them to? And piss poor investment? You know Macs hold their value way better than other PCs, right? I actually don't believe you bought a Mac. I was humoring you at first, but it's not worth it anymore. You're either stupid (to try to fool me) or naive, maybe both. My 2009 iMac is going for $1,500 on ebay, by the way.
AreMacsOverpriced 1 hour ago
@MaestroDraven
excellent points and something that too few Mac owners like myself neglected to check up on before wasting my time and money
eyeinsistGT3 8 hours ago
@eyeinsistGT3
MaestroDraven 8 hours ago
@MaestroDraven The same price as the T7500, for the thousandth time. No OEM is worth buying in your eyes because they're all more expensive than custom builds. If that's the case then stop arguing, you're not right. Opinion doesn't govern fact.

@prezjay First of all, my priority isn't to play games all day. I go to college and worked a job until starting this semester. I need a computer that will do the work I need it to do. That's why I said I made this video from the perspective of a COLLEGE STUDENT; hence, why I made such a deal about the size and weight.
Second, you don't download bootcamp; it's preinstalled on every single Mac.

prezjay 2 weeks ago
@prezjay Windows Movie maker is utter crap. I'd edit video from my phone than in Movie Maker. Powerpoint is the same way. Dude, I don't like Microsoft software: it's all clunky, ugly, expensive. See, I don't mind paying $1,300 for a MacBook Air that comes with well designed software and OS. I do mind buying the computer then releasing that the free software is free for a reason. And the M11x - which only has an 11" display - weighs as much as a 17" MacBook Pro. Piece. Of. Shit.

You can replace the RAM and HDD in the Alienware.
When did you take this video, because the current M17x doesn't have the same CPU option as the Macbook, and the RAM speed is 1600MHz.
Other things to mention is that the Alienware has VGA/DVI/HDMI so you don't need a special adapter to plug it into any monitor.
It has an Expansion port, so you could add more USB ports or whatever.
And it can hold 2 HDDs.
mrmotchmaster 6 months ago
@mrmotchmaster Important thing to remember is that Alienware is made for Gamers. I don't know what carrying a 17in Macbook is like, but I don't carry my 17in gaming laptop around much. I don't know if weight is much a factor... only 3lbs difference?... but more like the thickness. I have a textbook that is thinner than the M17x.
mrmotchmaster 6 months ago
@mrmotchmaster I know it's made for gamers. I wasn't ever planning on buying either computer. Having said that, the MacBook Pro's video card isn't a slouch, though playing at native res would def. affect performance. I just wanted to show how MacBook Pro's compare to other PCs. It's a series of videos I'm hobbying (made up word) around with.
In reality I plan on custom building a PC or buying a refurbished Mac Pro.
AreMacsOverpriced 6 months ago
@mrmotchmaster Yeah, I knew you could upgrade the RAM. Thing was, I thought only one slot was accessible to the user. I read you have to separate the keyboard to get access to the other.
The video was recorded and edited about a week and a half ago, I guess they just refreshed the computers.
I was configuring the computer for my needs and I have a MDP monitor so I would have to add an adapter to the M17x but I thought the screen was big enough to see what's going on without a second display.
AreMacsOverpriced 6 months ago
nice review :) im contemplating on getting a mbp 17" or alienware m17x, what sells me on the mbp is how sleek an the build quality, not to mention the brilliant 1940 x 1200 display, love the m17x though
Jak3HxC 6 months ago
@Jak3HxC Yeah, I don't think there's a bad way to go. What matters to me most is the CPU power and the MBP has got that. It's just as a student, it's way easier to carry a 7lbs 17" computer as opposed to a 10lbs 17" computer, even it offers more GPU options and such. I'd wait though if you could. Rumor has it Apple are going to introduce new MacBooks that are thin like MacBook Airs but bigger in screen sizes. I'm going to assume they'll have the same powerful quad-core CPUs like the Pros too.
