I had not realised that this new teaching is actually old teaching, and of course since new JW@S feel that they might be annointed, this teaching will service them for a 100 years or more ! Its easy to just say those interpretations were wrong we got the real religion right here now! If members are brainwashed cultist then why is it hard to understand they will blindly follow anything even if it doesnt make sense and disfellow anyone that disagrees and not let them see thier families. Love it. My parents always kept the original magazines, never purchased the bound volumes. The quote about the end coming in the 20th century is in their original copy, but indeed missing from the bound volumes that others in the congregation have. I remember my dad arguing with a sister about having read that quote. That's how they discovered the differnce in the two versions. Why they are still in the organization is beyond me.

I don't understand the point of being a JW. It's more about "I told you so" than anything else. If you die, you just die. If you live during Jesus' return, you reign with him for 1000 years... then what? What's the point? Only a select are part of the 144,000 that are at God's throne... so what is the point? Why should I become a JW?

from what i remember they try to scare you that you will be dead forever or live on earth that will be like a garden and not die if you are not one of the 144000. Ofcourse they are not right but try to tell new converts that they are...

Exactly cherkas. There is no optimism, no hope... just a possibility that IF you are alive when Jesus comes back you'll enjoy a Utopian earth.

So a terminally ill person has no reason to be a JW. You live in fear that you might die tomorrow and not have lived out your only hope in life. Its a life of fear.

A "generation" is about 30 - 40 years. That means that at least 3 "generations" have "passed away", since they started up with their crazy doctrines in the 1870s. Makes you wonder how many more "generations" are going to continue to swallow this crap.

Yes, this is all too familiar to me. I was only in for 2 years and change (baptized to boot), yet I have probably read in 20 years, almost as much as I did when I was in the organization. Doctrinal flip flops and re-hashed ideas are so common, yet the faithful eat it up because it is from God... yeah, right. C'mon WT, you are only going to convince those who will believe you out of fear. Good choice to keep your converts.

I'm so impressed by these exposés. There is not one point that can be argued against. If anything, you went easy on the WT (no doubt for clarity purposes) by not mentioning all the subtle/smaller changes made to the generation during the 80's. It is very interesting that the WT - which has caused people to make life altering decisions and who are now suffering because of it - never apologize for their mistakes and misleading statements.

This is great. I'm currently reading The Gentile Times Reconsidered so this video is very timely for me.

I tried to ask my parents about what the current understanding of "this generation" was but couldn't get an answer.  Truly a confusing doctrine.
