One more thing take the coating off the pill because that is what gives it it's sticky feeling. The only way I know to take the coating off the pill is to leave the pill on your tongue until it comes off

I have just taken a pill for the first time and what I did was cut the pill in half. Then I put it on the middle of my tongue and started drinking water. Now here's the important part. You can't drink normally because most people that have trouble like me would agree that you wish it could just slide down as if you were eating food. But it can't cause it's a solid. This is hard to explain but you should drink without the roof of your mouth touching your tongue. Just practice to find how you do

Best technique: Sip some water first (not too much), quickly put the pill in mouth, tilt head back (this widens the throat) and then just simply swallow like there is nothing there (just imagine a nice big swallow). Every other technique makes me gag on the pill which is probably one of the worst feelings you can have. Swallowing pills is all about confidence, if you know you gag from swallowing pills, it will just get harder and harder to take them until eventually you have developed a phobia.

This worked thanks. But another thing that worked for me that anyone should try if the video didn't work is to put the pill in your mouth, drink some water, and then have the pill floating in the water and think to yourself it's only water, no pill is in there. Then swallow. Hoped this helped :)
you know smth? all those muthafuckas who produce those pills should think about the average size of the throat diameter and produce pills taking that into consideration. remember that taking pills is not in the human nature as we have the natural instinct to chew rather than just swallow solid matter. medication is a fucked up shit that damages your body even more so that it still kills you, but much slower,so that you can pay for the pills and enrich the people who benefit from you taking pills
The trick to swallowing any sized pill is drinking a thick liquid with it such as milk. You hardly feel the thing in your mouth so it's much easier to swallow. That's how I learned to swallow my huge vitamin pills.
@mostliberal Yeah I had tonsillitis just a few months ago. It's so horrible for swallowing anything. There is not much you can do in that situation. If you need to swallow capsules that float in water just tilt your head forward & just simply swallow like you normally do. I was scared at first but they always went down without me gagging. Try it, I had to swallow 50 capsules of penicillin!
@AussieGossie I don't have tonsillitis, I just lost my natural swallowing reflex over the years (I'm 22 and this happened when I was 18). I mean, hard dry pills can get stuck in my throat for over an hour before it starts to dissolve or go down. My throat is really dry all the time, so it won't go down eventually; friction keeps it up there. I also tried downing 300-400 ml of water in one chug, and that didn't work. Also, my throat went back to being dry a minute later.
@mostliberal Strange, that seems like an unusual event. I don't know how someone at 22 lost their natural swallowing reflex? Pills are only dry if they are swallowed with a liquid. I think what you have is a psychological fear of choking on a pill. One freak event such as what you have described has made you fearful of swallowing. If you're throat is dry, DRINK MORE WATER. Drink half a glass before you swallow the pill then drink the next half with the pill in your mouth. It won't get stuck!
@AussieGossie It has nothing to do with fear. I've been taking pills all my life, and the first time I had a problem was at 18, taking a pill a little bigger than one I easily took at 7. My throat is generally different than it used to be. In terms of moisture, It's dry ALL the time, but globs of mucus flow down it occasionally. You know that peristalsis movement that brings food down? Well, basically, it won't happen if I swallow some dry pill with water. The water just flows down on its own.

If this works for you, great. If it doesn't try using a fizzy drink if the medication allows you to do so. With the bubbles you barely notice the pill in the mouth and one big gulp and you can't even feel it going down worked great for me.
p.s. if it helps, try no to think about it too much when you are in the process of swallowing it, (after you figure out what works best of how to swallow it and still have that choking like feeling) and do it swiftly too (but not too fast where you swallow wrong)

Some might find this nasty, but I just bite the pill in half and then swallow it if it's small enough or bite on it. What's a couple of seconds of some awful taste in your mouth than trying to swallow and pill and end up gagging for what seems to take forever?
I know, I know. I should learn to swallow pills (especially since some medicine is only time release and all that), but it's not something I mind much.
The best way to swallow a pill, (Because I can't do it anyother way is...) Get a spoon full of peanut butter, pudding, icing, honey, Heck even ketchup mayo or even mustard.... But get a spoon full of these types of condements, and put the pill in the middle and eat it.... But the first four work the best :) Other wise I can not swallow any type of pills....
what i do is break the tablets up into 4 sections, if they're large, plant them into a banana, take a bite, swish the banana around in my mouth until it becomes soft, and swallow! works a treat!

I can't get the pill to the back of my tongue. :( Every time I try, I kind of gag and my tongue automatically moves back into my mouth so the pill rolls forward, back to the middle of my tongue.

Sometimes I find it a little difficult. Take a medium sip of water (nothing too overwhelming), tilt your head slightly forward (if the pill floats) or tilt your head slightly backward (if the pill sinks) then just clear your mind & swallow everything.

you know smth? all those muthafuckas who produce those pills should think about the average size of the throat diameter and produce pills taking that into consideration. remember that taking pills is not in the human nature as we have the natural instinct to chew rather than just swallow solid matter. medication is a fucked up shit that damages your body even more so that it still kills you, but much slower,so that you can pay for the pills and enrich the people who benefit from you taking pills

The trick to swallowing any sized pill is drinking a thick liquid with it such as milk. You hardly feel the thing in your mouth so it's much easier to swallow. That's how I learned to swallow my huge vitamin pills.

@mostliberal Yeah I had tonsillitis just a few months ago. It's so horrible for swallowing anything. There is not much you can do in that situation. If you need to swallow capsules that float in water just tilt your head forward & just simply swallow like you normally do. I was scared at first but they always went down without me gagging. Try it, I had to swallow 50 capsules of penicillin!

@AussieGossie I don't have tonsillitis, I just lost my natural swallowing reflex over the years (I'm 22 and this happened when I was 18). I mean, hard dry pills can get stuck in my throat for over an hour before it starts to dissolve or go down. My throat is really dry all the time, so it won't go down eventually; friction keeps it up there. I also tried downing 300-400 ml of water in one chug, and that didn't work. Also, my throat went back to being dry a minute later.

@mostliberal Strange, that seems like an unusual event. I don't know how someone at 22 lost their natural swallowing reflex? Pills are only dry if they are swallowed with a liquid. I think what you have is a psychological fear of choking on a pill. One freak event such as what you have described has made you fearful of swallowing. If you're throat is dry, DRINK MORE WATER. Drink half a glass before you swallow the pill then drink the next half with the pill in your mouth. It won't get stuck!

@AussieGossie It has nothing to do with fear. I've been taking pills all my life, and the first time I had a problem was at 18, taking a pill a little bigger than one I easily took at 7. My throat is generally different than it used to be. In terms of moisture, It's dry ALL the time, but globs of mucus flow down it occasionally. You know that peristalsis movement that brings food down? Well, basically, it won't happen if I swallow some dry pill with water. The water just flows down on its own.

here is an easy way to do it. if u still cant swallow pills like me then try this. its easy and fun
step. 1 open the pill/capsule and take the powder out
step. 2 get some tye of food where u know it can dissolve into (ice cream works best)
3. wait a couple minutes so it completely dissolves then quickly eat it
step. 4 after eating most of the ice cream, drink a LOT of water (minimum 6 OZ)
step. 5 it might taste a lil werid but it always gets the job done

Here's what I do.
1. Place the pill at the end of your throat/mouth
2. Open your throat as if your trying to fog something
3. Put water in your mouth
4. Try to make the pill float around the back of your throat/mouth while letting your throat open up
5. Swallow fast! You feel like your gonna choke, but trust me you don't.

If this works for you, great. If it doesn't try using a fizzy drink if the medication allows you to do so. With the bubbles you barely notice the pill in the mouth and one big gulp and you can't even feel it going down worked great for me.

p.s. if it helps, try no to think about it too much when you are in the process of swallowing it, (after you figure out what works best of how to swallow it and still have that choking like feeling) and do it swiftly too (but not too fast where you swallow wrong)

Its ok, i didnt learn how to swallow them until I was 20. Everyone is different. With me, I put it in the middle of my tongue, and drink a carbonated drink. Idk why but all other drink doesnt help me swallow it without freaking out. I have tried back of the tongue and never worked for me. It also depends for me of what size it is. So everyone, if this doesnt work try other ways and other drinks of what will be easier for you to do so :)

Some might find this nasty, but I just bite the pill in half and then swallow it if it's small enough or bite on it. What's a couple of seconds of some awful taste in your mouth than trying to swallow and pill and end up gagging for what seems to take forever?

The best way to swallow a pill, (Because I can't do it anyother way is...) Get a spoon full of peanut butter, pudding, icing, honey, Heck even ketchup mayo or even mustard.... But get a spoon full of these types of condements, and put the pill in the middle and eat it.... But the first four work the best :) Other wise I can not swallow any type of pills....

I can't get the pill to the back of my tongue. :( Every time I try, I kind of gag and my tongue automatically moves back into my mouth so the pill rolls forward, back to the middle of my tongue.
I'll keep trying though!! I'm 17 and I've never been able to swallow pills. I usually get chewable or dissolvable stuff but I've decided it's time to learn to swallow pills.

Sometimes I find it a little difficult. Take a medium sip of water (nothing too overwhelming), tilt your head slightly forward (if the pill floats) or tilt your head slightly backward (if the pill sinks) then just clear your mind & swallow everything.
