The jennet was bred to a jack that was no bigger than she was. Small Standard.

However the 'grandfather' of the jack was larger, that more than likely the cause of the size of the large foal.

that was an enormous foal for that little jennet. how tall a jack was she bred to? rule of thumb is never go more than a hand(4 inches) bigger than the jennet when choosing a jack. hope all went well.

Wonderful job. We had a foal 3 days ago.

I had to help but once I got the leg pulled out that was too far back all went well. I would have been a wreck if I had to go through what you did. So glad when I saw baby was ok.

good video on donkey birth. My first one was hiplocked and I nearly lost both of em, wish I had seen this video prior would have helped me tremendously, I helplessly walked behind her afraid to pull, finally reached up inside her and got ahold of his butt and out he came!
