i think their first Albums definitly were the best... Parachutes with Yellow :) and A Rush of Blood to the Head a Masterpiece... but the go their own way and develop new styles... just like other Bands;) and i'm glad that they are still Coldplay and didn't suck over the years like other bands did *uhuh*Metallica*uhuh*

Viva La Vida debuted at #1 in 36 countries. Coldplay's worldwide success is phenonmenal. This concert took place in 2006, before Viva. This shows that they have been popular in many countries long before Viva la Vida. This song was never top 40 as far as I know, so it is relatively obscure to say, Clocks or Viva la Vida.

It is a song about revolutionary change, and Coldplay dresses in French Revolutionary clothing in their performances. 2008 marked a major shift in power from an 8-year Bush administration and similarly long period for Tony Blair. Probably many countries saw changes in leadership. Viva La Vida represents the struggle of power between good and evil. It sounds like a victory song of the tiumph of good over evil.

@JaneColdplay Well, you are right, the old songs are all very good, and contain their best songs, but Viva La Vida had a few good songs, like Lovers In Japan, Strawberry Swing, and Violet Hill. The big deal with Viva La Vida was that Coldplay made an album that contained a new tone, a new type of muisc to them.

I began disliking coldplay since X&Y came, and not with viva la vida it's on a all time low. Parachutes was awesome. AROBTTH is one of the best albums ever but X&Y and viva la vida are way too commercial
