@Andybaby magnitude(The property of relative size or extent) in a direction. In other words, you getting up and going to the kitchen for some food is a vector.

Vectors: A = axX + ayY

(A is vector, ax is magnitude, X is direction, ay is magnitude, Y is direction)

Read it like this: Vector A is equal to the magnitude of the vector in the x direction plus the magnitude of the vector in the y diirection.

By splitting it into these two components, vectors make right triangles, on which you can use properties like pythagorean theorem. Sine, Cosine, and inverse Tangent are 3 important functions of vectors.

vectors are awesome. im not superb with math but the concepts that vectors and matrices represent sit very well with me as they are so easy to visualize when writing 2d or 3d graphics code. this video captures a piece of that visualization, although i think the voice echoing is a bit unnecessary.
