How bizarre. Tom Warner just commented on this old video too! You're following him around! But hey, you two, I'm starting to post video from Sutter Creek now... About one per day or so... I'll even throw in one of me fumbling at the keys.
That drowning out could be more about my position being closer to the guitar, and maybe the camera's automatic gain control turning itself down whenever the mandolin-banjo is plucked.
Technically, that's a type of mandolin called a mandolin-banjo. It's a mandolin in function with a banjo head, much like how an ukulele-banjo is essentially an ukulele with a banjo head. These instruments were created for the louder sound they produced.
Am I the only one who notices the little dog barking right on cue at 1:23? (the dog, a small terrier-type out of the picture, belongs to Craig Ventresco).
Heh yep, either Craig's dog (Mister Wuffles, was it? Mister-something cute like that) or Wishbone. I think I remember looking and it was Wishbone, just outside the room as his master wheeled by. That might not have been during this recording, though, but at some other time while I was there in the Comstock room.
I love this! Abe Holzmann also composed the "Bunch O' Blackberries", the first cakewalk I ever learned. Don't ya just love Meredith's beautiful smile?
Seeing that has made my day

This is delightful...I love Meredith's contagious smile, and the mandolin banjo is precise with it's syncopated accompaniment...:)

Really nice playing.
Anybody know how Meredith does that slapping trick? Was it historical practice? I've never seen that before.

This string duo truly captures the flavor of the early 1900's Ragtime records.

Maybe you should do a little research on the history of popular music.

Jealous that whitey plays better?

The guitar kinda drowns out the banjo-uke in places. But she sure plays solid!!

This is one of my favorite cakewalks. The sound is so authentic... I can't describe it, it's a sort of tone-quality.
