I have the ultra III ,but I didnt like the low output pups.In single coil mode the volume dropped drastically. I just dont think rockabilly pups work well with a mahogany body unless you want the lofi punk sound which the guitar does really well . I put GFS Wild Dog Overwound Humbuckers in it,which are the only pups i could find that are an exact fit.Sounds awesome They put the guitar into Les Paul territory.It is now my main gigging axe.

I have one of these guitars and it is incredible how versatile it is. The 3 mini-humbuckers are amazing and it has fantastic sustain and playability. Yes it is kinda heavy but that doesn't bother me. The Bigsby (besides just looking awesome) is actually very useful (keep in mind it's a vibrato...NOT a whammy bar) and stays in tune very well. And i'm the kind of lazy person who doesn't like to tune their guitar very often. Sounds great, looks great, feels great. I recommend it.

Metal has no discourse for the kind of guitar. The only impact the guitar makes is how nice it is to play.

Sound wise, metal is all pedals and amps, that's why metal is shit.

You do know the tonal difference between Humbuckers and single coils right ? Or even between a hollow or solid body guitar ? @markdocker Any guitar is good for any genre. It's all about how you play it, and the effects you use on your amp. I would avoid pedals, an amp's natural overdrive always sounds much fuller and cleaner than a pedal.

Yes the ultra is versatile, but I'll say it is VERY dark sounding. I'm gonna replace the bridge with a filtertron and neck with duncan, do some rewiring to brighten up the sound.

Only buy this is you're into that kind of sound or have a bright amp you want to tone down.

@ProGuitarShopDemos I have tried my Ultra (no effects) into a number of fenders, as they are know for being bright, but the highs we're dull as if there wasn't enough natural treble in the guitar. The minis should compensate for the lack of maple top, but in my guitar the pickups didn't. The bridge just isn't bright and the neck is way too flabby sounding (middle is good though). So I'll replace my pickups, I hope it's not that my guitar is just a lemon.

I agree. The ultra III is not dark sounding at all, but a great sounding guitar. The guitar looks like a hybrid between a tele and a firebird. Great blues guitar as well.

my friend has this guitar. so from someone whose played it. trust me its a really good guitar. it has an asymmetrical neck so it feels really nice. and the pick ups sound great for the price. i recommend this to anyone who is looking for their second guitar

I would guess that one of the guitar's pickups is split for a single-coil sound (don't know which one) and then he has both chorus and some reverb set on the amp.
