  • shouldve been 1:54. watch the clock

  • jonnybravo8 this workout isnt designed to build strength, it's designed to increase work capacity; effectively its an intense cardio workout combining a functional strength training move with a gymnastic variation. Try it out before you slate it again ;)

  • This is the video that got me into CrossFit. Madness.

  • kips aren't pullups I give him props on the lifts and effort but those pullups were bull

  • What the... this is not even remotely close to the best way to train strength.

  • Comment removed

  • @jonnybravo8 Then what is? Post your video.

  • They would never count that as a pull up where I train!!

  • I finally got a sub-3-minute Fran last week (2:59). Just try it. I was wrecked and laying on the floor for an hour. I was extremely sore the next day. How the heck can a 3-minute workout mess you up that bad?? Fran is legit. Oh, and yes I butterfly kipped my pullups just like this guy. Seriously, try it and you will see that it is legit. I couldn't touch my head for 2 hours after this workout my arms were so over-used.

  • Just did my first Fran @ 6:22, those pull-ups were a bit iffy but still impressive time.

  • i hate you....great job

  • Thats...frantastic!

  • It never fails that I hear Pantera at Crossfit gyms. Awesome time by the way.

  • @DEdens1525

    That was Static X

  • cool..now squat 1.5x ur bodyweight

  • @cecilbdemented no........you squat 1.5X ur bodyweight, and my daddy can beat your daddy up :-P

  • @RhabdoGFCM uh cool?

  • amazing

  • I just did this today and I got 7:07, rofl. This is insane.

  • I was stoked with 3:40 . respect

  • Fuckin crazy my best is like 5 min!!! Lol!

  • Crossfit views any movement in terms of efficiency and practicality. In the same way an Olympic lifter uses body movement and form to lift much more than simple muscle capacity will allow, those 'swinging' pull ups are effective and producing the desired result, which is getting the chin over the bar. You would do the same thing if presented the same obstacle in real life (you'd use every advantage you could get). Dead hang for muscle development, kip for efficiency of movement. Hard either way.

  • Do you call that pullups? omfg. Swingups. :/

  • @Viguar haters gonna hate..

try some different pullups and you will find this type pretty hard

  • @Viguar Hey Viguar i train MMA and BJJ (brown belt) thoose pullups with kips are alot harder then the usuall, try them instead of typing bullshit here.

  • Coach you're a beast... that was ridiculous Lolol.... Good work

    -Big Steve

  • @Ribeiro178 Thanks Big Steve!

  • sick little fucker!! I'm amazed hahahhaha

  • why would you want to do lots of pull-ups with horrible form? is that really what cross fit is about?

  • @2200mason are you saying his butterfly kip pullups are bad or are you saying he should do strict pullups?

  • @evilpinne he should do strict pull-ups, with good back contraction. (even though they're clearly harder). I don't know much about cross-fit but if it's about fitness as the name suggests, good strict technique should be paramount shouldn't it? feel free to enlighten me if I'm missing something

  • @2200mason In crossfit those two (strict v kipping) are considered to be two dif. exerc. with dif. purpose. There are workouts where you do deadhang pullups as well. For a good summary, there's an article about this on physicalliving, just google kipping vs strict pullups and you'll get the article in the first results. Being used to kipping (and deadhang), I would consider his form (in the realm of kipping) to be quite good. Feel free to read it and get back with your opinion =)

  • @2200mason Try pumping out 21 of the fuckers. Then 15. Then 9.

  • @2200mason in this case its about maximal power output (work over shortest period of time)

  • Wow! This guy rocks is he going to the 2012 games?

  • @fix4theday I don't know......

  • Fran eh? Sounds like a decent warm up.

  • @xXxMrMysteryxXx I use crossfit, but shit that made me fkn lol!

  • You couldn't pick a better song for this video, also listening to all the people cheering gave it an awesome atmosphere which makes this video one of the best motivational videos of all time.

    Fantastic effort Jason!

  • NICE

  • I did Fran for the first time also. I got 5:21 and i was so stuffed... 95lbs...

  • Damn, Fran took me 10 mins wiht the 95lbs weight :( I am only 120 though.

  • it is sped up.

  • one hell of a time, I got 3 minutes flat using less weight as I'm only a sophomore in highschool and i was dead so Its crazy seeing this done in 1:53secs,.

  • Yeah he is a fucking monster. I got a 7 minute and I thought I was sick

  • RI.DIC.U.LOUS!!! I have my first go at Fran tonight!

  • This guy rips it!

  • Savage!

  • thats beast!

  • no rep

  • My best attemp on this workout is 3:19 ... and you 1:53... WOW good job man

  • I....would....die. wow

  • Wow.... All I have to say is WOW! I got a 5:25 today on my first go, I can't every imagine getting a 1:53!

  • @hammerofSaM 5:25 on your first try? That's an accomplishment in itself. I'm in the 8 minute range and have done it a couple times. Then again, I'm also not as diligent of a crossfitter as I should be.

  • I can't even put into words how unbelievably hard that is to accomplish

    ...

  • cheaper to do cf then bb coz dont have to eat as much

  • Nice Job Dude! Sidenote:

That song made me want to find someone named Fran and stomp her out I need that in my life what was it??? Song/Artist PLEEEEASE.

  • @wisdometernal

    Static X - Push it

  • Dude, 1:53 is fucking beast. My only Fran attempt was 9:58. =/

  • This is what crossfit is all about. Not fucking "stand up box jumps" and "games standard" everything else. Just get fit.

    Great job on this Fran

  • I want to try this today, so I wanted to see a demo.

    This is simply disgusting.

    Monster.

  • NICE......... :-O :-)

  • This is Insane!!!

  • did fran last night, over 6 minutes, this guy is bionic, good work mate

  • hahaha "no more fran... ever again" try it without the wallball. well done dude. this really great!

  • i wish i understood what was happening

  • Im posting yet again.....f*cking sick!

  • He stopped it 1 sec early.

  • impressive flipper chin ups.

  • @TheMightyLu It appears that SOMEONE doesn't know what a butterfly kip is. Ps--A chin up is the reverse grip of what he used; thanks for playing.

  • Rx'd is 95lbs. Impressive

  • WOW! machine!!!!

  • whats the weight hes doing

  • @Alexander21231 95lb

  • The first time I did fran, I violated the laws of physics and finished it under a minute. Then farted on my helicopter pad.

  • Kipping* not killing. Damn autocorrect

  • Love the static x. Sick job. Also killing makes pullups easier, true, but I'd like to see anyone talking shit to post a video of them even completing this workout, killing or not.

  • OMG.

  • impressive!!

  • you're a machine !

  • i dont think fran can be done any faster. great job man! really impressive. how did you feel AFTER that?!

  • he needs to learn the definition of a pullup

  • @enderthegreat You need to learn.

Chin over bar is the standard in Fran.

Do it with Kipping or just strict, is just a way with training. But in 'Fran' no need to strict pull-up!

  • dear fran: youre a bitch, you make many people hurt, and youre a slut..and a bad one at that. many people try you, and yet no one seems to like you (wonder why..). it almost makes me feel bad for you..almost. sincerely; one of the crossfiters. also props to the guy who kicked hiney in this video. good reps or not he finished it strong, and until you trolls upload a video of you doing as good as he does with perfect reps you can go play with grace or amie.

  • super :D

  • Comment removed

  • @blueshifted100 Exactly. It takes me longer than that by at least a couple of minutes, and I know some of my reps are questionable. That was impressive as hell.

  • Very impressive, no way to debate that... if this were a true competition some of those pullups would not have counted, but for the normal guy/gal that does CrossFit, I have to say that was an amazing WOD by him... not just good work, GREAT WORK!!!

  • great time but there were some failed pullups in there. mostly the first couple of each round

  • i have not met Fran yet, and im sure it wont be pretty when i do.

That dude rocked it, even if he would have had some of those failed reps, still a beast!

  • these dudes are posers!

  • Y'all need to stop hatin on this dude....

  • I saw a lot of no-reps.

  • Little people love cross fit. It's a workout that makes them look awesome when they're good at it.

    Beast mode, represent.

  • This dude is a complete animal. Only bummer is that most people on here who have written negative comments have probably NEVER done FRAN! Kudos man. Sub 2 min is almost unheard of.

  • such an animal

  • what a beast

  • Kudos! That is great.

  • I did Fran for my first time ever yesterday, it took me 4mins 26 seconds, watching this, I feel inspired to do it faster!

    Amazing effort!

  • @Adamz848 sick that you lie to random dudes on the internet =)

  • @Nolyx what can I say, snapped it just makes me feel better about myself ... eat arse.

  • i just rx'ed fran for the first time today and it took me 10:41 hope some day to do it in double his time. Good job jason you kick ass!!

  • Dude is a freak. 1:53 Fran. Whoa! Nice technique on the butterfly pull-ups.

  • Screw the keyboard warriors. That is one hell of achievement. I did a 1:53 Fran once but it was more like 1 hour and 53 minutes. =0)

    Good Job Jason.

    From a Fellow Cross fitter.

  • I counted 35 no reps

  • the front squat hes doing it wrong is elbows are pointing downwards which is wrong w.e his joints will feel the pain

  • @Tullijatt604 He wants to keep his wrist straight so he can thruster it over his head instead of straining his wrist from the racked position in the squat and switching it to a full grip to press over his head everytime. Instead to increase his time he just grips it the entire time so he doesn't have to fiddle around with grip.

  • Impressive, although I'm not a big fan of throwing weights around.

  • No Rep on over 50% of the reps. Chin does not go over bar and head almost never comes through. i give him credit, he is in shape, but if you are going to do the workouts, do them right. This is a friendly confines WOD, not a competition WOD performance.

  • this is sick man. awesome

  • phenom. don't care if there is a ball under your butt or not, this is straight up awesome. i do the fran with 50 lbs and i start wheezing i breathe so hard.

  • some of those reps were questionable but honestly for the most part i dont see any that were definetly shit reps

  • Wanna have a good time? Call Fran at 21-15-9

  • Fran a bitch you dont wanna fuck with

  • @obamaforprez2008 did you know that Americans have one of the highest amounts of obese persons in the world. I have an idea instead of making fun of people that "waste" their time in the gym, join them and see why they pursue their goals with the intensity that they do.

  • @obamaforprez2008 your right, because working out for less than an hour a day really distracts people from the more important things in life, you must be working tirelessly 24 hours a day to stop the climate change. Hope you're not sleeping, because if you are, you need to do something better with your time.

  • i did fran last night, that is a tough work out, especially when you have an ex marine breathing down your neck making sure your form is perfect

  • @snowfreak91 nice but our at our gym we have an ex marine that coachs us....he sees everything.

  • @snowfreak91 nice but at our gym we have an ex marine also that coaches us....he sees everything.

  • impressive time for sure but I agree some of those pullups may not have counted and at the gym I go to none of those thrusters would have counted. the saying is "my ankles tell me when my ass hits full depth." the med ball only goes to parallel. but great athlete still his time for full rom is probably still sub 230

  • my first WOD was fran, needless to say, i was way out of my depth and suffered...alot

  • Tons of failed reps in this video. I don't care how fast Kaplan did this, half of it didn't count. Check out the head coming through at the top. Can't see his ears from the side. Plus he's using a ball to squat to!!!! I mean, come on guy, grow a pair. Congrats on doing a pseudo 1:53 fran. Try doing it for reals next time big boy.

  • @guydj56 God Bless

  • Fcuk the haters - all tw@ts - respect to this sh1t - today I (@230lb) did this with addition of alternate bell press ups (11's) and normal pull ups to be sure of a balanced workout - it fcuked me hard in a55 - it is darkness....

I wouldn't do it with those pull ups but after the thrusters it is hard enough to just bl00dy hang on let alone pull up with any technique. Fair fucks to this dude.

  • crazy. this was in 2009, did u improve the time?

    this its just crazy.

  • that dude is a maskin.

  • F bomb, I've been doing kipping all wrong. I didn't know it was a cycle, thought it was a rock back and forth.

  • @tywonellington There is a standard kip which is rocking and there is the butterfly kip which is what you see here. The butterfly is preferred when going for speed. Standard is still effective

  • @UBSCARED I at first thought the same thing!!! But after research i discovered that people who did kipping pull-ups can do more strict pull ups than people who dont. And the kipping pull up is a larger power out put therefor it jacks the heart rate. Crossfitters do strickt L pulls ups as well as the kipping ones

  • You're number one.

  • talk about your broad time and modal domains!

  • You could probably create a little bit of momentum with the ball under you but this is certainly fucking amazing.

  • love the cely!

  • ok.... so now that the warm up is done where the workout at did the camera die or something

  • The song is called push it - Static X

  • @marley54fd thanks heaps :)

  • Wow. That was impressive. I don't see how people can be negative toward someone doing that kind of work capacity in under 2 minutes.

  • did 'Fran' for the first time today, as it also was my first time getting to know CrossFit. I timed 13.20, i have a long way to go, looking at this guy lol. But much respect to him. And i hope Crossfit will grow fast and big in the Netherlands too.

  • i need this song and and this guy is a animal

  • whats the song called?

  • @Wafflez24 wish i new been looking for it all fucken day

  • what's the title of the song guys?

  • I think it's all just some video lag/quality. The jealousy in here is out of control. His pullups are all chin over bar, which is competition legal, and his kip is fine. I can't believe ANYONE would try to offer jealousy-based advice or critique to someone with a 1:53 fran time.

And a kip isn't more or less work than a dead hang. It's a different movement. Many things that aren't working during a dead hang are working during a kip. It's not designed to get wings. It's not bodybuilding.

  • This guy makes Fran look easy. Gosh

  • i feel like EVERYONE who hates on this video is either a complete hater with no friends and wants attention OR has never done fran.

  • Out of 100k people reading this, maybe 1 will ever be able to beat this guy on this workout. Ridiculous

  • Chest should hit the bar on the pullups

  • @lurigasjuksyster no sir not on fran.

  • @lurigasjuksyster fran is chin over

  • More power, less power, whatever. It's still ridiculousness. I aspire to this status. Bravo.

  • Great form man! Freaking machine!

  • beautiful

  • r u on steroids?

wait r u the Hillside gymnastics teacher?

  • I attempted fran after 6 weeks of crossfit for the first time and managed 7:49, I was proud of my effort, until now

  • @jalidav1 bro thats not bad at all.

  • the first time i did the fran, my time was 16 minutes, and puked on the parking lot

  • 17 people have never got their shit wrecked by fran

  • @retrobeaver94 agreed!

  • Gotta get the chin over the bar man. About 6-8 of the pullups dont count. And that kip needs work.

  • @JessLD1985 I don't have to do anything you said, I'm retired.

  • @JessLD1985 You've got to admit he's just a beast. The pull-ups weren't that bad.

    Jealous maybe? (I am :P)

He could use a lower ball, to get below the knee cap. (or like our gym,,, No ball, than you get deep enough)

But still he was at BeastMode

  • Gotta get the chin over the bar man. About 6-8 of the pullups dont count.

  • Impressive work but squat range is iffy at best

  • sick!

what's the music in this video?

  • Insane, mad props dude. My time today on fran was 7 something. Put me to shame haha

  • I'm really curious what his heartrate was at the end, seemed like he was at absolute max the entire time!

  • @gopher3737 Someone at Kaplan's level is beating at close to 170 bpm maybe closer to the 180's depending on the person. Don't be surprise to see close to 200bpm's tho.....Jason is an animl....

  • It looks sped up because people that crossfit move a bit faster than the rest. JK this is pimp speed. Good job on that absurd Fran time...

  • He needs a lower ball to get below parallel depth. Besides that he's a beast.

  • @Fit2GoJason i agree...he is a killer athlete for sure, but in competition he would have failed some reps

  • @kellz51 Totally agree (without hating)
