Quit hating, people. A typical V-8 powered car will smoke a 4-banger any day. However, the 4 cylinder will achieve way better gas mileage. It's all a matter of personal preference. If you want an economical commuter you can still have fun with, go with a 4 cylinder with a manual transmission. If you're into racing and don't care about gas mileage, go with the V-8.  4 banger for the daily, V-8 for the weekends. That's why I have one of each!
