just gotta say guys, it's unusual how the comments posted on classical music videos appear to be much more moderated and reasonable. It suggests something about the people listening to, enjoying and playing this music. I walked out of my school in year 12 to this song in our hall, it was magical. brilliant stuff.
Absolutley agree, I've been a classical musician for years and you know the people who come and watch performances or listen, seem to be much gentler mature people.
I don't know why people feel the need to shout and swear and abuse on sites like this. Maybe it is personal inadaquacies.
Have played this peice for years and it is one of the most powerful works written in my opinion.. Never fails to stir the soul!
For concert band he composed the First and Second Suites and Hammersmith. For brass band he composed A Moorside Suite. Holst composed for many types of ensembles, as well as several operas. Much of his music was not well received but his Planets (it is not a suite but a complete work) was well liked then. The Planets was influenced by his interest in astrology, not astronomy, hence the meanings given to the movements.
Personally I think that the finest recording of the Planets Suite was the LSO conducted by Sir Adrian Boult in 1979, no other recording I have heard comes near it, but thats a personal opinion, which I suppose is what music is all about
this is the best!!! i absolutely love it with all my might!!!

Minerva/Athena/Pallas. Pallas is an asteroid, but I don't believe Gustav wrote a song about it. :(

Haha Gustav Holst and Duke Ellington are my favorite all-time composers and they do completely different types of music

Oh my gosh! My favorite all-time composers are Duke Ellington, and then Tchaikovsky.
But Russian composers are just so amazing. My favorite composers of classical music.

This song makes me feel like exploring the unknown. Going to the wild, finding new things and seeing the world from the top!
