@v19d Where for 4 years the Democrats did nothing except for helping a Republican president for the first 2 years to kill the economy. So now go and stop blaming Republicans for everything.
While Repuiblicans got enough to take the house they still can't do much more than what they've been doing already namely dragging their feet hoping for a win in 2012. They still are minority in the Senate. The problem they now face is that they must now come up with some actual solutions to the countries lack of work/manufacturing/etc.
I don't know who this "we" is that you think elected Democrats - but I can tell you for a fact - all talk about elections and politics is a total waste of time untill you find out how to include the majority of Americans in the process - right now nearly 70% of eligible Americans do NOT even vote - SO what are you talking about - it is like someone talking about baseball in a remote tribal village - THE people are NOT playing the game you talk about.
@AzizaApril Without a Declaration of War approved by Congress - a statement of belligerence between nation-states - any military action against a nation-state is illegal under the Constitution of the United States. Possibly the U.N. Charter, but honestly, I haven't read that document.
I don't know how right-wing Bush is. He was more of a corporate toady to provide opportunity for profit for Blackwater, Big Oil, and others who profit from killing people in other countries.
President had direct control over military actions regardless of what congress says. congress have 48 hours to freeze any military actions, if they don't, then its supported. America voted to go to war against terrorism.
I love the Iraqi people and the Afghan people. i would wish no harm to them, ever.
however, the enemies we face, is the same group of people that the afghan people fear as well.
war isn't pleasant, but good things come out of it.
@AzizaApril According to the Constitution, ONLY CONGRESS has the power to make war. Just because every congress since Ike has abrogated their responsibility by ceding power to the Executive Branch, it doesn't become legal. This was regime-changing, empire building, wars of aggression. Against the Constitution, against the U.N. Charter (to which the US is signatory, making it the law of the land) - against common sense. Just because those who shouldn't turn a blind eye, doesn't make it legal.
please tell me how many of the 9/11 hijackers were from the country we INVADED... and if 5 Americans attacked Russia should Russia NUKE us or should they realize that it's just five NUT jobs
I think you are well intentioned so why don't you help? You are basically saying that those people are misinformed, selfish, or whatever and take a joke for it. You talk about war, but your country is considering NUKE another one by prediction, like the WMD on Iraq. I think it's a major issue and if that happens, the economic crisis will be the least important issue for those who will have to deal with the consequences
Come on people. I tuned 18 less than a year ago. I voted. I understand that in a democratic system, we the people need to participate in order to ensure that the country goes in the direction we want it to. Go vote next time you assholes.
As long as we have the fat cat lobbyist feed these two parties, we are not going to see any progress made. It is amazing that the Republicans don't see that the two wars are the biggest expenditure that we are facing, they want the Government
to reduce spending, who are they kidding! 2.7 Billion a week on this war is not spending ?.
what do you expect republicans to do vote for plans that they knew wouldnt work so that liberals can like usual pin the blame on the right? liberals are solely to blame for everybody's health insurance premiums rising and the inflation rate affecting everything from groceries to clothing! so fuck liberals im glad they got their asses handed to them on tuesday!
i really hate when people tell me whats best for me......especially closed minded liberals and conservatives......i dont care if other people want free health care because i dont want to pay for it, i have a hard enough time payin for my own....land of opportunity or land of entitlement......this country is fallin apart fuck everyone
All on Pelosi. she was too busy covering her arse because she voted for the war. I'm glad she's gone. I just hope we get a democrat with a backbone as the minority leader.
Voting early is extremely easy. But I like it beign a secret..... shhh!
The true beauty of the way we vote is that the "lazy" people also convince themselves that their vote won't matter are the same ones who would have voted for the Dems.
Lazy people that look for Government handouts = Democrats.
Lazy people that won't go out of their way to vote in a Midterm election = Democrats.
@AngelWillGetYouBitch Well, that's what he news said, so that's the number I'm going with. The actual number could be both higher or lower, but this is the estimated amount.
Wow, did I get a load of responses on this video. I supposes I should clarify where me and my fellow Danes got that idea from.
As far as the news explained(And be free to correct this if we got it wrong), Obamacare consist of the goverment giving a tax cut, though you have to use that money on insurance. For us, that seems like a roundabout way for the goverment to pay for the insurance, and thus, one step closer to the goverment simply paying the public hospitals.
Obama didn't campaign to end the wars, if you thought that you weren't listening to him. He said over and over he wanted to INCREASE the fight in Afghanistan and he would wind the war in Iraq down slowly over 2 or three years. He never said one word about impeaching Bush. Sheeze! You people are insane if you really though he might end the wars quickly and impeach Bush. You make evangelicals look sane.
@ArtetlaMusique87 for the past 6 years i've seriously considered packing up my family heading north before the shit storm, the republican party, decides to run us further into the ground.
There's hardly ever a mention of the things Obama has done, and the statements that 'he's done nothing' from the rally's and blogs and disappointed youtube videos are simply inaccurate.
If you're remotely interested on the things he actually has done:
I wonder what to think of this information. That website is definitely not objective, but it DOES negate the idea that Obama has been completely useless. The problem is that he hasn't really been very active in regards to certain rather critical issues, such as the Patriot Act and the war in Afghanistan (and, in a lesser sense, Don't Ask Don't Tell). Also, I do not see the stimulus act as contributing positively to the financial problems of the U.S.

Having those ass bandits in Washington deadlocked and unable to agree on anything is better than having a majority lead by Nancy " Prozac Queen" Polosi shoving bullshit bills from one side of the isle unlubed straight up the asses of America's taxpayers. At least this way Washington won't be as expensive.....
Voting is not the answer in this country. It's taking up arms against this country and driving it out of global power. Voting just extends the illegitimate system.
The election outcome was very predictable and TPTB were counting on it; to have a government in disarray. The main event was waiting for the election mess to play out and it will happen Nov 8-11, 2010. We will quickly forget about election results as the real shit hits the fan.
@davisfleetwood Beaten up...by a girl, yes. Which...not a big deal. But the way you balled up cowered got your man card rejected. You should probably sue her as I'm sure you're afraid to go into public now. lol.
I completely agree with changing elections to something other than a Tuesday... I mean, we're updating the voting process to use computers and such because they're more efficient (so they say) so why not also change the day(s) to be allow more people easier access? It's a great idea!
@XxUrSoLoStxX - sadly you are probably right and many libs would agree. Though we did have 'hope' for a while based on what he talked about in his campaign.
Ooooooh, dumb USan baboons realized they got fucked in the ass by the Repocrats. So they vote for the Demublicans. Then they get fucked in the ass by the Demublicans. So they vote for the Repocrats.
Bottom-line: They are deranged, insane clowns beyond hope.
Ha-ha! This was the "Tali-baggers" "taking the country back"???? LMAO. They're still the same lame ass pin heads they were under Bush. No wonder they wrecked the country.

I've a Facebook page (that I don't use) and voted. I voted Democrat, but this guy, California's Brown, I've been told, is an embezzling fuckhead. This makes me think that "politician" means sociologically evil. After listening to you for long enough, Davis, I feel that the right and left wings stand for either side of the human psychological spectrum, leaving it dangerous to refer to them by such outdated names that elicit an idea that the tug-o-war of politics means more than human well-being.
Pres. Obama, I think you are TERRIFIC! You understand America's challenges and you want to do the right thing. You have a great plan for America's future.
STOP APOLOGIZING! It makes you look very WEAK!
Republicans are "Tools" of international corporations and their minions like FOX News, etc.
Boehner & McConnell should be exposed as the liars & fools they are, and demonized the same way they demonized Pelosi. We are in an economic & culture war against very selfish, malevolent forces.
This is war between true Democracy (a government of the people, by the people, and for the people) -- or a future American Corporatocracy/ Plutocracy. It is truly a war of good against Evil. You are our 21st century Teddy Roosevelt.
If you fail, then America's future is probably also doomed.
Please take the OFFENSIVE! The youth, minorities, and all intelligent Americans are with you!
I work at a hotel - today a gang of rich highway contractors were hanging in the lobby, puffing themselves up over their Liberty and Freedom! "I'm too conservative for the Tea Party!" said one, while gnoshing on free food and drinking free wine - provided by the State gov't - who announced in the meeting to their contractors, "We anticipate no decline in our highway maintenance budgets, and we have $390 million to give you."
@audadvnc By that, "government" means what/who provides when we can't or WON'T (for) ourselves. Which, to a small degree, is alright. But, we, like with Obama in '08, exalt our politicians. I figure that to absolutely exalt another is to give them license to do anything. Those gentlemen may have been living well, but on a tab that is both concealed and exponential...
Sad. Reps out spent Dems by 9 to 1 because they are so heavily funded by corporations and the wealthy class. People are just stupid to believe that the Reps are looking out for anyone but the people their funding comes from. Idiots one an all.
You're a silly man! The only good thing coming out of yesterday's election is that Pelosi will be gone! Sadly, whats - his - name will likely be replacing her.
I'm suddenly reminde of something I read in the newspaper today, about the American election. It said that despite the backlash against Obama, over here in Denmark, roughly 85% still love him and don't understand why Americans wan't to be rid of him.
Then again, my countrymens reaction to Obamas healthcare plan, wich I shared, can be summed up as: "Finally they are dropping that inhuman insurance system. Welcome to the modern age Ameri... Wait, why are they complaining?".
@ArachCobra But we are NOT dropping the inhumane insurance system, just expanding it. Our healthcare is STILL based on profit for private companies. In this regard, OBamaCare is a major failure.
@davisfleetwood So do you, or will you, support Dick Armey's demands to the Republicans... “Politically speaking, your only choice is to get on offense and start moving boldly ahead to repeal, replace and defund Obamacare in 2011, or risk rejection by the voters in 2012,” Mr. Armey and Mr. Kibbe wrote [in a memo to House Republicans] ? (NYTimes, 4 November 2010, "Tea Party Flexes Muscle with Republicans")
@ArachCobra There's something you have to understand about Americans. We need to have someone to be better then. Sure, there are 3rd world countries that are decades behind us in everything. But we don't get to see them every day. We need to be able to take a drive into the inner city and shake our heads at how bad things are. Not to mention. We don't want to think that our money is helping anyone else.
You'll find the money to be the largest complaint about universal healthcare.
@ArachCobra I think a lot of here thing it's more a step sideways... just a way to paper over the current system. There's very little that can be done to stop the insurance industry from locking us into a plan we can't afford. It can potentially be a lose lose situation. Now that the government says that I must by law pay for health insurance or be fined then what happens if it becomes unaffordable? They say that this exchange is supposed to solve it but it's unproven and doesn't come for 2 yrs.
@ArachCobra I think we should specify that our system is still based on profit for INSURANCE companies... and a healthy sprinkling of trial lawyers. Add in the evergrowing numbers of bureaucrats who make a living by being involved in "the healthcare industry" and prices are bound to increase because everyone has to get their cut. Doctors should be allowed to profit off their trade so it's good that jammed somewhere in the small print are doctors and patients... For now.... I think.
@ArachCobra And hell, if Denmark loves Obama so much then YOU CAN HAVE HIM!!!! lol.. Now I don't wanna get into a whole idealogical debate but what's so "modern" about a government providing, and thereby controlling, such important aspects of the lives of its citizenry? That's been happening forever, with usually dismal results. It may work in Denmark but it doesn't seem to be working well for the rest of Europe and the US is an entirely different ballgame altogether.
Actually it is working very well in other places in Europe: France and Germany for example . The reason some Americans do not think it would work here because Americans think being selfish is good, Predatory Capitalism is good, having small Government is good and having big Corporations is good too. Meanwhile, America keeps slipping into an abyss because it would not mature itself.
@Artist1974CH Really? It's working well in France?... So I guess the riots being carried out by people protesting cuts in government spending because they're dependant upon the continual support from a bankrupt government are what? a crazy coincidence? And the concept of "predatory capitalism" never works unless those predators have access to a BIG gov't to use as a club and shield. A simple understanding of the dynamics of a true free market would really surprise you, if you bothered.
@eluminated The way Europeans are protesting is more logical compare to ... humm ... What is that illiterate group of people called?...OH YES! The Tea Party! Actually, Predatory Capitalism is working in America, and everyday it is sucking the life out of this country. If you want an example of BIG Gov't, go to Iran where the country is run by extreme Right-Wingers.
@Artist1974CH No, the Europeans are rioting to protest cuts in government spending for gov't employment and entitlement programs because with less and less free market options they are utterly dependant upon the government jobs and entitlement programs to provide for their daily needs. Your partisan insults and mindless rhetoric about "predatory this or that" do not change the reality of what is going on in Europe.
@Artist1974CH Now as far as Iran being "right-wing", lets analyse that statement because I'd like to know how "right-wing" can apply to both big AND small gov't systems at the same time. I guess you mean that Iran is a theocracy and so it enforces "conservative lifestyles" upon it's citizens. Well the Soviet Union enforced conservative lifestyles on its citizens as well, did it not? And I don't see the people of China or N. Korea dancing in the streets and partying until dawn (cont)...
@Artist1974CH So the lifestyle that is enforced is not the standard of whether something is rightwing or not. You seem to be, like many, misunderstanding the political paradigm because your confusing social and civic conservatism with social and civic liberalism. Civic liberalism (or leftism) means LOTS of government, whether it be socialism, communism, fascism, theocracy, monarchy etc. Under any and all of these systems social conservatism is FORCED upon the citizens ie they are not (cont)..
@Artist1974CH they are not free to live their lives as they choose. Now you're absolutely correct to oppose the "religious-right" of this country. They call themselves conservatives ONLY because they wish to impose social conservatism on everyone, but in order to do so they would by nature have to use legislation that is in NO WAY conservative. The homosexual who wishes to be free to live his life and marry whom he pleases is (civically) more conservative than the religious nut who (cont)
@Artist1974CH wants to create laws that tell him how to live. The homosexual is a SOCIAL liberal but in seeking a style of government that lets him be free he is a civic conservative. Therefor, your example of Iran (a government that evidently puts homosexuals to death) does indeed enforce socially conservative lifestyles, but it is in no way a conservative or "right wing" form of government. And neither can many Republicans in this country truly claim the title "conservative" (cont)
@Artist1974CH or "right-wing" because, as for their styles of governing, they are just as leftist as the biggest socialist in the world. It has just become a debate over which form of BIG, leftist, liberal gov't the majority prefers. Who do they want telling them what to do? Which corporations do they want getting tax breaks, subsidies and preferential treatment from the big government? But NONE of it is "conservative" governance.. (cont)
@Artist1974CH I think we ALL need to better understand the phrases and terms we're throwing at eachother. Many who vote Democrat need to realize just how civically conservative they really are when it comes down to it, and those who would right every law according to what their bible preaches need to understand just how leftist THEY really are. As for me, I'm a civic conservative/social liberal... I'm "right-wing" and THAT was actually what the "tea party" was founded on (back in 2006/2007))
@eluminated lol, I misspelled "write"... I'm an idjet, I know... it should read "those who would WRITE every law"... I'm half-drunk right now, cut me some slack :)
@brastmonkey Well, it's because that we see him as being closer to our politics and way of life than other American senators. I mean, he would be considered right wing in Danish political standards, so imagine what the actual right wing looks like to us. Basically, we see him as the best you got. Even those who think he did bad, still agree that the other candidates would have been worse.
Your term 'slacktivist' seems to assume that would-be activists are just lazy.
I protested the war in London and Socialist Worker tried to recruit me, anarchists hijacked large portions of the march to bleat nonsense, there were signs with swastikas and lectures on communism.
"Stop The War" was what I wanted to say. I didn't want to associate myself with anything else: just that the war was wrong. I wasn't apathetic; I was alienated by the crowd. I haven't marched since.
I have an uncomfortable notion that Sarah Palin is going to be President of your fubar nation one day. Left-thinking Americans need to pull the finger out before we are ALL humped. (the UK govt. being so far up your arse we can check your fillings)
@tburke64 I can't wait to get dropped for no reason by my health care provider and pay indirect taxes when the Bush tax cuts go permanent. Ughhh, saving the auto-industry??? I feel so intruded upon, we should've just let the banks and realtors and the auto industry collapse like the free market would've wanted us too. And more freedom for everyone except the gays and the muslims and the mexicans and the poor, you know?
@moscowmasha I Spread awareness about the banksters and the Removal of Glass Steagall. See if you fully comprehend Glass Steagalls removal, you know why your vote is irrelevant.
That's a useful thing to do, of course, but I don't think that it has much to do with voting or not voting. I prefer to participate in whatever level of democracy that may exist, even if I don't have much faith in the current political system. One can both raise awareness and vote; the two don't really cancel each other out. Not voting = not using certain rights given to you = providing yet another reason for someone to easily take away those rights.
WE DIDN"T VOTE now we GET WHAT WE DESERVE. If you want to complain about OBAMA now you can make yourself have a full on anger attack now that REPUGLICANS have taken even more control.
So what do you want to happen in Afgan... Yes I hate war and we leave. Do you care what happens after that to the people in Afgan? just a question! THE WHOLE SYSTEM HAS ALWAYS BEEN and will be corrupt! GET OVER IT! . Why are you so SURPRISED! OBAMA is the first step not the answer to all your dreams. WAKE UP! and stay on his ass but have his back!!!!!!
republicans are evil, democrats are pussies who can't get shit done, and i rofl at the insanity of the tea party and my mother who is so ignorant to see how fucked up they really are. no point in voting for something that will either do nothing, or fuck us over even worse.
I don't get how there's such a threat of a filibuster. are these people so self involved that they can't sit in their chair longer then someone can talk? wtf are these people that are so effected by filibusters thinking? "damn! Glee comes on at 8:00, I can't be late"
I'd hate to think any of my friends lied about voting. That being I had friends tell me right up front that they did not vote. So why lie if they can be honest with me.
I move it to veteran's day and fine anyone who doesn't vote. That would solve voter turnout, if it doesn't, then it solves the national debt. Win-Win.
I'm curious - and if this is the case its fine, at least we all know where we stand - do you admit your videos are your opinion which is biased and doesn't give much pro and con-age?
@davisfleetwood Well, here one thing you should note: a journalist also have to do some editorials once in a while... Just that this opinion should be based on something objective and factual, not on "thin air" or purely ideological statement - and when some ideological presence is present, it have to be transparent. So, your are doing a little bit of journalism and you do it somewhat well, even if your goal is one of entertainment.
@davisfleetwood Sometimes I agree. Sometimes I disagree. I disagree with you using the phrase 'illegal and unjust wars blah blah' because I get the impression you are an intelligent man who has formed an opinion based on research. However, your statement is put across in a agitprop way which means the stupid and prejudice will just take what your saying without consideration.
I feel you do not make it clear enough that it is YOUR OPINION. Its fine but you promote your views and its not balanced
@beccki9This in not opinion: EVERY SINGLE WAR we have waged since WW2 has been illegal. That is FACT. The constitution empowers congress the power to declare war. The constant shedding of blood these past 70 years have amounted to much more than minot "police actions" that the constitution alliws the President to enter into without congressional authority, dontcha think?
Finally both wars in Iraq are cleary wars of aggresion. This is ILLEGAL according to the UN Charter.
And by saying that I'm not qualifying the term as specifically democrat or republican. Both houses are progressive and regressive in their own light and we don't need one assuming ownership of the term.
How about we stop using "Obama Liberal" as a means to rally the base. Or "Tea Bagger" (so much for civil dialogue). It is more divide and conquer, bread and circus politics. Too many focused on winning and not on doing. I'll work on making my community better so the govt doesn't have to.
Buzz words and phrases...buzz words and phrases. Everytime the election monster crawls out from its hibernation I'm reminded of the Kierkegaard quote "Once you label me you negate me." Progressive and regressive are such cute words which really do nothing more than make the one feel better about themself in the face of the other. Progress for progress sake is just as dangerous as if not more so simply because it assumes forward movement is inherently good.
Here in Canada the oil companies, specifically those with the Tar Sands contracts are jubilant over the regressives regaining some power. They know Cap and Trade is dead in the water and they are gonna make big money. I can't believe people elected a criminal like Scott in Florida and whore-monger like Vitter. Our own Conservative PM Stephen Harper (a Liberal by US standards) is making such a mess of things he'll be out soon enough and the other two parties are hot to pull out of the war.
I was supremely let down yesterday. I was really hoping that people would remember what the regressives did last time they were in control of anything. But apparently they were stricken by amnesia, the likes of which daytime soap operas have never seen, and voted in even more backwards thinking asshats that seek to destroy us all. I hope you idiots are happy. I really do. I really hope that for the next two years you are able to sleep and look at yourself in the mirror.

ArachCobra 1 year ago 5
@ArachCobra But we are NOT dropping the inhumane insurance system, just expanding it. Our healthcare is STILL based on profit for private companies. In this regard, OBamaCare is a major failure.
davisfleetwood 1 year ago 13
@davisfleetwood So do you, or will you, support Dick Armey's demands to the Republicans... “Politically speaking, your only choice is to get on offense and start moving boldly ahead to repeal, replace and defund Obamacare in 2011, or risk rejection by the voters in 2012,” Mr. Armey and Mr. Kibbe wrote [in a memo to House Republicans] ? (NYTimes, 4 November 2010, "Tea Party Flexes Muscle with Republicans")
julsHz 1 year ago
@ArachCobra There's something you have to understand about Americans. We need to have someone to be better then. Sure, there are 3rd world countries that are decades behind us in everything. But we don't get to see them every day. We need to be able to take a drive into the inner city and shake our heads at how bad things are. Not to mention. We don't want to think that our money is helping anyone else.
You'll find the money to be the largest complaint about universal healthcare.
andreo 1 year ago
@ArachCobra Obama care is nothing compared to what you have in Denmark and it never will be. It's still a for profit system.
lestliness 1 year ago
@lestliness True, true, we where well aware of that.
Still, most of us saw it as a step forward.
ArachCobra 1 year ago
@ArachCobra I think a lot of here thing it's more a step sideways... just a way to paper over the current system. There's very little that can be done to stop the insurance industry from locking us into a plan we can't afford. It can potentially be a lose lose situation. Now that the government says that I must by law pay for health insurance or be fined then what happens if it becomes unaffordable? They say that this exchange is supposed to solve it but it's unproven and doesn't come for 2 yrs.
lestliness 1 year ago
@ArachCobra I think we should specify that our system is still based on profit for INSURANCE companies... and a healthy sprinkling of trial lawyers. Add in the evergrowing numbers of bureaucrats who make a living by being involved in "the healthcare industry" and prices are bound to increase because everyone has to get their cut. Doctors should be allowed to profit off their trade so it's good that jammed somewhere in the small print are doctors and patients... For now.... I think.
eluminated 1 year ago
@ArachCobra And hell, if Denmark loves Obama so much then YOU CAN HAVE HIM!!!! lol.. Now I don't wanna get into a whole idealogical debate but what's so "modern" about a government providing, and thereby controlling, such important aspects of the lives of its citizenry? That's been happening forever, with usually dismal results. It may work in Denmark but it doesn't seem to be working well for the rest of Europe and the US is an entirely different ballgame altogether.

Artist1974CH 1 year ago
@eluminated
Artist1974CH 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH Really? It's working well in France?... So I guess the riots being carried out by people protesting cuts in government spending because they're dependant upon the continual support from a bankrupt government are what? a crazy coincidence? And the concept of "predatory capitalism" never works unless those predators have access to a BIG gov't to use as a club and shield. A simple understanding of the dynamics of a true free market would really surprise you, if you bothered.
eluminated 1 year ago
@eluminated The way Europeans are protesting is more logical compare to ... humm ... What is that illiterate group of people called?...OH YES! The Tea Party! Actually, Predatory Capitalism is working in America, and everyday it is sucking the life out of this country. If you want an example of BIG Gov't, go to Iran where the country is run by extreme Right-Wingers.
Artist1974CH 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH No, the Europeans are rioting to protest cuts in government spending for gov't employment and entitlement programs because with less and less free market options they are utterly dependant upon the government jobs and entitlement programs to provide for their daily needs. Your partisan insults and mindless rhetoric about "predatory this or that" do not change the reality of what is going on in Europe.
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH Now as far as Iran being "right-wing", lets analyse that statement because I'd like to know how "right-wing" can apply to both big AND small gov't systems at the same time. I guess you mean that Iran is a theocracy and so it enforces "conservative lifestyles" upon it's citizens. Well the Soviet Union enforced conservative lifestyles on its citizens as well, did it not? And I don't see the people of China or N. Korea dancing in the streets and partying until dawn (cont)...
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH So the lifestyle that is enforced is not the standard of whether something is rightwing or not. You seem to be, like many, misunderstanding the political paradigm because your confusing social and civic conservatism with social and civic liberalism. Civic liberalism (or leftism) means LOTS of government, whether it be socialism, communism, fascism, theocracy, monarchy etc. Under any and all of these systems social conservatism is FORCED upon the citizens ie they are not (cont)..
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH they are not free to live their lives as they choose. Now you're absolutely correct to oppose the "religious-right" of this country. They call themselves conservatives ONLY because they wish to impose social conservatism on everyone, but in order to do so they would by nature have to use legislation that is in NO WAY conservative. The homosexual who wishes to be free to live his life and marry whom he pleases is (civically) more conservative than the religious nut who (cont)
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH wants to create laws that tell him how to live. The homosexual is a SOCIAL liberal but in seeking a style of government that lets him be free he is a civic conservative. Therefor, your example of Iran (a government that evidently puts homosexuals to death) does indeed enforce socially conservative lifestyles, but it is in no way a conservative or "right wing" form of government. And neither can many Republicans in this country truly claim the title "conservative" (cont)
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH or "right-wing" because, as for their styles of governing, they are just as leftist as the biggest socialist in the world. It has just become a debate over which form of BIG, leftist, liberal gov't the majority prefers. Who do they want telling them what to do? Which corporations do they want getting tax breaks, subsidies and preferential treatment from the big government? But NONE of it is "conservative" governance.. (cont)
eluminated 1 year ago
@Artist1974CH I think we ALL need to better understand the phrases and terms we're throwing at eachother. Many who vote Democrat need to realize just how civically conservative they really are when it comes down to it, and those who would right every law according to what their bible preaches need to understand just how leftist THEY really are. As for me, I'm a civic conservative/social liberal... I'm "right-wing" and THAT was actually what the "tea party" was founded on (back in 2006/2007))

Just that this opinion should be based on something objective and factual, not on "thin air" or purely ideological statement - and when some ideological presence is present, it have to be transparent. So, your are doing a little bit of journalism and you do it somewhat well, even if your goal is one of entertainment.
therrydicule 1 year ago
@davisfleetwood Sometimes I agree. Sometimes I disagree. I disagree with you using the phrase 'illegal and unjust wars blah blah' because I get the impression you are an intelligent man who has formed an opinion based on research. However, your statement is put across in a agitprop way which means the stupid and prejudice will just take what your saying without consideration.
I feel you do not make it clear enough that it is YOUR OPINION. Its fine but you promote your views and its not balanced
beccki93 1 year ago
@beccki9This in not opinion: EVERY SINGLE WAR we have waged since WW2 has been illegal. That is FACT. The constitution empowers congress the power to declare war. The constant shedding of blood these past 70 years have amounted to much more than minot "police actions" that the constitution alliws the President to enter into without congressional authority, dontcha think?
Finally both wars in Iraq are cleary wars of aggresion. This is ILLEGAL according to the UN Charter.
davisfleetwood 1 year ago
And by saying that I'm not qualifying the term as specifically democrat or republican. Both houses are progressive and regressive in their own light and we don't need one assuming ownership of the term.
How about we stop using "Obama Liberal" as a means to rally the base. Or "Tea Bagger" (so much for civil dialogue). It is more divide and conquer, bread and circus politics. Too many focused on winning and not on doing. I'll work on making my community better so the govt doesn't have to.

moscowmasha 1 year ago
Buzz words and phrases...buzz words and phrases. Everytime the election monster crawls out from its hibernation I'm reminded of the Kierkegaard quote "Once you label me you negate me." Progressive and regressive are such cute words which really do nothing more than make the one feel better about themself in the face of the other. Progress for progress sake is just as dangerous as if not more so simply because it assumes forward movement is inherently good.
bwfull 1 year ago
Here in Canada the oil companies, specifically those with the Tar Sands contracts are jubilant over the regressives regaining some power. They know Cap and Trade is dead in the water and they are gonna make big money. I can't believe people elected a criminal like Scott in Florida and whore-monger like Vitter. Our own Conservative PM Stephen Harper (a Liberal by US standards) is making such a mess of things he'll be out soon enough and the other two parties are hot to pull out of the war.
