And to address your question, I personally do not think gun control laws have stopped violence. I do believe they make it harder for people to commit violence with firearms. I'd rather be mugged with a knife then with a handgun, and with a handgun rather then an uzi.
And society has always given up freedom for safety. What do you think cops, jail, judges, and the legal system is? We yield our freedom to them for safety by letting them arrest people, jail criminals, etc.
Maybe, or maybe we should do what we are doing which is increasing the number of Federal Air Marshal's on board. FAM's are highly trained in CQC, self defense, criminal behavior, and have one of the highest standards for handgun accuracy. They are the ones who should be armed. Until the pilots are required to meet such high standards of accuracy and safety, I disagree with pilots being armed. Securing the cabin door, yes. But they should be piloting, not firing guns unless trained to do so.

Before the NFA, machine guns were easily accessible and there was no school shootings. Crime didn't really start until the Italian Mafia came in, which is the Prohibition's fault. With the NFA, there were only 2 known violent crimes used with legal machine guns. One was by a police officer, and the other confessed guilty. Should there be regulation for more military weapons? Sure, but outlawed, or taxed to the point only museums can have them? No.

And to address your question, I personally do not think gun control laws have stopped violence. I do believe they make it harder for people to commit violence with firearms. I'd rather be mugged with a knife then with a handgun, and with a handgun rather then an uzi.
And society has always given up freedom for safety. What do you think cops, jail, judges, and the legal system is? We yield our freedom to them for safety by letting them arrest people, jail criminals, etc.

Maybe, or maybe we should do what we are doing which is increasing the number of Federal Air Marshal's on board. FAM's are highly trained in CQC, self defense, criminal behavior, and have one of the highest standards for handgun accuracy. They are the ones who should be armed. Until the pilots are required to meet such high standards of accuracy and safety, I disagree with pilots being armed. Securing the cabin door, yes. But they should be piloting, not firing guns unless trained to do so.

I agree and I greatly admire Mr Keyes, but on this issue I feel we have been sold a bill of goods. We are the strongest country on earth and if we can't defend ourselves against terrorists than we deserve to be attacked and to suffer. But we CAN defend ourselves as we have shown since 9/11. And we didn't need to attack Iraq but we DID need to find Bin Laden - and we didn't. That's where we Republicans failed. We let W. protect the Bush/Saud family pipeline and NOT finish the job.

Keyes lost to Obama because the Republicans gave him up as a sacrificial lamb at that time. They knew they didn't have anybody in Illinois able to win given that the democrats were still very popular there. Keyes's never having lived in Illinois was what cost him. Keyes blew Obama away in every debate and made him look like a bumbling fool. Go back and watch them and count how many times Obama stutters in between statements and Keyes is clear and procise! He also doesn't connect with people emotionally imo, which is very important. Very intelligent man, but I disagree with a lot of his views, and no, I don't have enough time to go into all of them. This is what I think presently, and it may change over time. Usually, people either have absolutist or liberal, open to different ideas not political liberal, mindsets. Both of these mindsets have arguments to support them. Both of these mindsets are represented in both major parties.

Imo, we vote with people who first of all connect with us on a personal, emotional level, and secondly but closely share the same type of mindset we do. They may be of equal importance or may be of varying importance depending on the voter. But both of them are critically important, and once you do connect with people on both levels, you have the ability to cause great change or progress.

When you have a cult following for a religion that threatens you with eternal hellfire and death if you don't accept a dogmatic belief (and all the baggage that comes with it: gays are horrible sinners, for instance), I'd say that warps your mind. It's a very basic form of mind control. I for one believe in God and the ability to attain levels of Consciousness but I'm open to the possibility of being wrong and am open to learning.

Saddam's Ba'ath Party was secular and did not support Islamic terrorism. The "terrorism" in Iraq is a response to our invasion, just as the Mujahideen was a response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
There is no case for the invasion of Iraq and it can only be defended by fictions (WMD), stupid reasoning (we are using Iraq as honey trap), or building a democracy (a chimera).
