  • i had an entire colman grill blow off the back of our car into me, as well as ridiculous amount of welts from the hail. I watched tents and pop-ups literally fly past me, down the road. port-o-pots were flipped as well, but then some people righted them. i would have hated to be the person who opened the door and realized that........

  • I was there! That was crazy haha I had bruises all over from the hail

  • A pretty impressive storm, but also not on my top three. I would say the mother of all storms was at the Haymaker festival in Virginia a few years ago (the one Little Feat was supposed to play at but all their stuff was destroyed).

  • I was at the Haymaker festival and as well as this years Delfest and have to disagree. Both were in my top 5 most fuct up storms I've ever been through but this one was much worse ie: the hail and lightning(my girl frirend was one of the many that got struck).

  • holy crap, your girlfriend got struck by lightning?

  • DAMN

  • That was fucking awesome!!!!!

Unless someone was injured, then it's not so awesome. In fact, it wouldn't be awesome at all.

  • Two people were struck by lightning, but were fine.

We were under (and holding onto) one of the few E-Z up canopies that survived. Afterward, there was a rather large make shift 'sculpture' of abandoned/destroyed canopies and tents (although most tents were fine).

  • I was in the T.P. that ended up flat....I jumped into my pickup just in time, but saw others pinned under the huge TP poles...No serious injuries,,,

  • Yeah. They'll be a clip of the Davisson Brothers Band doing "Frankilns Tower" with Ronnie McCoury up soon.

  • i saw this video on the weather channel

  • What a fest! That was the scariest storm I've ever been in ..and I've been in a super typhoon in the Philippines.

Great music -- anyone get a vid of late-nite Davisson Brots doing Franklin's Tower? That set rocked..as did everything.

Thanks Del -- great festival. I'll be back next year for sure.

Thanks Allen for helping keep my tent staked down (we were by the baseball field/picnic tables).

    See everyone next year! Dave

  • I think we had a supercell storm: A severe thunderstorm is a thunderstorm that contains 1 or more of the following:

    - Hail that is 3/4 of an inch or greater in diameter

    - Winds 58 miles per hour or greater

    - Tornadoes

They are tremendously powerful and well-organized, containing rotating columns of rising air..capable of maintaining severe strength for hours; produce dangerous straight line winds, large hail and torrential rain; sometimes they spawn particularly strong tornadoes.

  • Yes....it is classified best as a Micro Burst. I've had a meteorologist watch the video, and check the data. I will be doing a telephone interview on the Weather Channel tonight at about 7:50p.m. EST as they show the video!

  • yeah... that is me in the yellow bandana.. I cant believe I made the national news.. how crazy

  • nice vid.

  • I was under one of the VIP tents hanging on to one of the poles along w/ 2 or 3 others. Intense for sure! HAIL NO, DEL YEAH.

Everybody pulled together. Delheads are the greatest!

I plan on being there for DelFest III in 2010!

  • This is absolutely insane!!! I hope nobody was injured.

  • I was in the grandstands this was incredible!!! I could not believe it

  • Yeah this was insane. I only hope this doesn't happen in Telluride next month!!

  • I lost close to 400 dollars in camping equipment that storm and I have no complaints about that Festival.

  • I've seen several videos of the storm, and this one best captures the intensity of it. We were under our screen tent holding on for dear life! This is a Delfest we'll never forget! Bring on Delfest '10! Del yeah!

  • Holy crap, Edwin! Talk about a TBL-size gig from Hell!

  • just wow...O_o

  • DUDE..was holding on to our canopy for dear life......what a nightmare and muddy mess......

  • wow...

    thats crazy!

hope this doesn't happen at bean blossom lol...

  • That is me in the yellow bandana on the camp stage with chad and tim carbone. I just went to watch the show and it started sprinkling and before you knew it I WAS PRAYING out loud. tim and chad you are awesome!!! The storm was absolutely crazy.

  • i got stranded in the meadow and it was down right scary, great footage

  • This is good footage, I could not believe it. Thanks to [ the NOVA Deadheads - Allen and Amii ] we saved our EZ-up's!

  • This footage catches the INTENSITY of the storm, which was downright severe at moments. The whole squall lasted close to an hour and had two bouts of hail, several rounds of gale force winds, and close to 3 inches of rain. Kudos to the kind folks (Amy, Amanda, & Bryan) who joined the Rock the Earth team in protecting our canopy. Sadly, the Homegrown Radio booth (mentioned above) and most of the other non-profit canopies were completely destroyed.

  • HOLY HANNA! hope everyone is ok! that is nuts!

  • I was working with Sam Bush when this storm hit. We did all we could to save his equipment but some of it was ruined. Never been so scared for my life and I've been through 12 hurricanes and 2 other tornadoes. My girl and a few others at our camp were zapped when lightning hit the tree next to where they were huddled. She's alright but a few others had to be transported to the hospital.

  • It's like you dudes were onboard the boat on "Deadliest Catch" during a squawl

  • sooooooooo glad i wasnt a part of this again.

  • Comment removed

  • oh gosh! scary!!!

  • Summer Camp Music Festy in Chillicothe Illlinois was bone dry for the most part ... I almost went to DelFest instead LOL

  • Unreal. I was helping HomegrownRadioNJ hold down their tent. When the first lull came, I headed back to the hobo camp to hold things down. That's when it got really ugly.

    Great footage!

  • Yes as a matter of fact this is Forrest

  • Hail no! Del yeah! Epic storm, memorable fest. And it just wouldn't quit, kept switching direction and coming back. By the 3rd round of hail I was in the beer truck, thanks to the Sierra Nevada folks. Unforgettable.

  • thank god someone filmed the storm. that hail was unreal.

  • What a totally messed up scene!! We were there!! Thanks for catching this on video - it proves it wasn't just a bad dream!!
