  • Darth Vader and the Emperor disliked the video

  • @jazzx251 lol what?

  • @jazzx251 It's funny that the actor that played him was british though...

  • This battle simply proves that Luke Skywalker is and forever shall remain as the greatest Star Wars hero.

  • @jazzx251 Come back for thirds if you want limey :)

  • @PapagenoJuan2 No need, finished first time of asking, remember? But we can forget history by painting over the burn marks.

  • R2: *Gets shot by Vader* AAAAHH!! F%#K YOU! WHO DO I LOOK LIKE? ARTOO-PAC?!

  • @jazzx251

He was played by a British actor but played the part with an American accent.

  • @Mokkari77

lol - not him as well!

I knew Wedge (a perfectly capable British theatre actor) was overdubbed. But I didn't know about Red Leader - I think that's a credit to the American voice actor (whoever he was) - I was fooled anyway.

  • Imagine all the people in the rebel base panicking when Yavin IV entered the Death Star's firing range.

  • @MilesEdgeworth129 I'd fuck out of panic, hopefully there are some hot rebels...

  • With all the changes Lucas has made, I'm surprised there was no enhancement to Red Leader's crash. When his fighter goes down, it just looks like a random explosion on the Death Star's surface. There's no sign of Red Leader's ship or any kind of impact at all.

  • @jksonny yes I wonder at Red Leader's thoughts at that moment. Did he accept death? Or did he die thinking, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" ? It's so hard to tell from the way actor's act. Maybe Lucas can explain it with an edit.

  • 4:00 minutes and on are hands down some of the most epic moments ever captured on film.

  • This is the death star battle, not yavin

  • @chadtrademaster its called the battle of yavin, the one in return of the jedi is called the battle of endor

  • Luke:Pull out you cant doin anymore good back there Yoda: Said That She Did ...................XD LOL

  • This is totally how the English took out the Bismarck. Check it out.

  • I wonder why they filled the Death Star with so many Groud troops...needless losses of life.

You know, if you really think about it, doesnt think make th Rebels terrorists?

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano

technically no. terrorism specifically refers to using terror to try to win wars, and generally means attacking non-combatants, meaning civilians. the battle of yavin would be seen as more of a bit of strategic guerrilla warfare, resulting in huge casualties on the opposing force's side. if anything, the empire acted as terrorists when they destroyed alderaan, killing millions of innocent people.

  • @MrPier101 Or! Peter Cushing weren't invited to the party on Alderaan and decided gatecrash it in style. Except no one understood that when he said "you may fire when ready" he meant "fire the huge keg", not the combined strength of several billion glowsticks in one go. Underlings, can't get any job done right.

  • @MrPier101

Considering that the EU established that the Death Star was filled with more than just soldiers and Imperial jackasses...one might consider the Rebel attack a terrorist one.

From a certain point of view.

  • @SpadaccinoLuciano

    Excellent point.

As Commander of the Death Star, I would have evacuated all personnel into rings E-Z, with the "A" ring occupied solely by military gunning staff, and B-D as a buffer zone against high-impact explosives.

But Tarkin had other ideas above his space station.

  • I didn't realise Daft Punk was in control of the firing systems on the Death Star!

  • many brave stormtroopers lost their lives on that fateful day.

  • the entire timeline of star wars revolves around this one battle.

  • Rebel Base:"Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?"

    Luke:"I don't trust Windows"

  • I think Biggs should have lived at least a little longer, they could have expanded on that character.

  • >•< vs |-o-|

  • "I have you now!"

    POON POON

    "Whaaatt??"

  • The force is strong with this one !!!! use the force luke

  • I wonder if anyone notices a bit of the imperial march when the Death Star Blows up.

  • @jacksondoherty It couldn't have been in the original theatrical release. John Williams didn't write the Imperial March theme until The Empire Strikes Back.

  • The xwing is obviously a disadvantage.

  • 4:40

What tpo order a cheeseburger or a big mac.I KNOW ill take a *Boom*

  • gotta love those plot guided missiles ;p

but i always wondered how this would be ;p

Emperor: we have a new enemy, the young rebel who destroyed the death star.

Vader: uhmmm master...some random guy named porkins blew up the death star.... is he a jedi???

Emepror:.....say what??? who's that??? thought skywalker blew it up :s

    Vader: uhmmmm no....

Emperor: *facepalm* ok nvm that then

  • "You may fire when ready" *epic music begins*

  • Luke just blew up a Death Star that was inhabited by millions, not all of them necessarily bad. How do you think he feels?

  • @nepomusik like a boss

  • @phazontofu

You know I think it would be interesting if they made an EU sidestory on that, with Luke having massive guilt for blowing up the Death Star and taking innocents with it as well.

Contrary to what the movies show, the Death Star was just more than a battle station.

  • @nepomusik yeah it was a massive home/city/office/ig-88 droid

  • @nepomusik

Yes. Thousands of innocent prisoners of war died aboard the Death Star.

And then there were the catering staff - people like you and me who found themselves in the wrong job at the wrong time.

I find the rebels' jingoistic victory celebrations rather insensitive.

I don't trust them either - now they have power.

Before you know it, your kids will have to learn "The Force" as fact in science class.

That's somethin I'm not looking forward to.

  • @jazzx251 . . . Seriously?

  • @nepomusik IM GOIN TO DISNEYLAND!!!

  • @nepomusik Back in Lukes day, slaughtering uncounted numbers of faceless mooks made you a hero. Nowadays, Commander Shepard goes and blows up a star system and before you know it, they're drigging him/her in front of a tribunal for a court martial. No fair.

  • @nepomusik Tarkin blew up the planet Alderaan first I guess he feels even.

  • @nepomusik very happy cause he saved billions, maybe trillions from the potential planets the death star would've destroyed if the rebel alliance failed

  • @nepomusik Come on, they had the same discussion in Kevin Smith's "Clerks". All people on board the Death Star had to know the risk - they served the Empire and were bound to know what was happening. And so they would know that the Death Star was a potential target for Rebel attacks. Better think about the thousands of innocent workers who built the second Death Star...

  • @SwordmasterKane

Well to be fair, those who died with the Death Star's destruction were under what I like to call "Titanic syndrome". They overestimated the Death Star; it's said that much in the novel.

The DS II on the other hand...

  • @SwordmasterKane There had to be innocent prisoners of war on the Death Star though, probably including many part of the rebellion. Still, small price to pay to keep planets from being destroyed I suppose.

  • @sanforddrofnas Agreed. But! the rebels knew there would be the risk of being captured or killed during the civil war, so they don't really count. As for the other innocent victims - tha blaim is on the Empire for imprisoning them and holding them onboard a potential target. You know, there were people in the dark ages who did just that on purpose - putting prisoners of war in vital areas, so the enemy would not attack them...

  • @nepomusik People die in life, it happens. get over it hippie

  • @nepomusik Some people actually believe the Empire is good, which is almost reasonable. ALMOST. I mean, the only remotely evil things they do in the series, aside from fighting the Rebels, are destroying Alderaan and enslaving Cloud City. The Expanded Universe handles the rest.

  • @LightHero117

In many ways that's ONE thing the EU does really well, and perhaps one of the few rare things I sorta dislike about Star Wars; it goes beyond the idea of just vanilla good and evil, because life sometimes just ain't that simple.

  • @nepomusik It still doesn't make sense to have people white-knight them, though.

  • @nepomusik That argument has little merit. The Death Star is a military installation. All military personnel knew the assumed risks when they accepted their assignments and boarded. The amount of civilians/sympathetic imperials onboard would be minimal.

  • The force will be with you..... always

  • Is it just me, or does Red Leaders last couple of lines (losing the starboard engine and telling Luke to set up for his attack run) sound slightly different than the original release? Sounds like it was dubbed over...some of the vocal inflections are different.

  • I always keep thinking about What happened at the Clone wars to the battle of Endor and end of the empire what happens years and years after it all when the Jedi order has been restored and the Remnant forces of the Empire is gone kinda funny to think about Luke the little farmer boy turns out to be the 1 who defeats the empire haha

  • stupid battle sequence. if the wingmen stayed above, they could have covered for him

  • @Jeneral28 Like my father always said....ya wanna ruin the story??

  • When they re-released this in theaters...the ENTIRE theater went nuts at 4:43!

  • I had friends on that Death Star... :(

  • 2:33-2:35 Farewell Biggs.

  • I don't what epic means but yes I agree.

  • So basically Luje anally raped the death star with no reach around or anything??LOL wow..Lucas IS gay!:)

  • Okay, it was over 45 seconds, the Base should have been within range already and blown to bits!

  • i really liked this scene but at first i thought all the y wings died but then when there going back to the base i see another y wing i also thought wedge was going to die but instead he flys away and then 1 movie from now he returns in episode 6 in the battle of endor and is now known as red leader george lucus had a great idea of bringing back a rebel pilot and the best part is he survives that battle to wedge is awsome go red leader we love wedge!!!

  • Great scene people will recognize in the late 60s classic, the Battle of Britain:

  • Dear Hollywood, please make films like this again. Thanks

  • Anyone else think that Vader was gonna puke from flipping all around in that fighter of his?

  • @ManaTatsuX What also gets me excited at that scene is the music! It sounds so epic!

  • Now that's flying: The tie was like "Look out!" And just screwed up completely!

  • "Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm alright. The voice in my head said everything will be okay!"

  • @Berengier817 oh in that case we're fucked!

  • 4:16 epic

  • i'm guessing whoever disliked this was either palpatine or Vader which one do you guys think???

  • @iliketobygames Um.... It could be either one. Vader, he had to relive an scene that probably made him want to puke. Or the Emperor, since he saw his big investment get blown to pieces. I'm tempted to hit the dislike button just we can say it was the both of them. XD

  • i really like the entire scene but im annoyed at the portrayal and scale of the entire battle. the death star used only 8 tie fighters for defence, when it has like 50000 of them inside !!!

  • @Hibrnaldo Blame tarkin for that one. He commanded most of them.

Vader had his personal force go out because he thought tarkin was wrong about the fighter threat.

  • Imagine 30 rebel ships went and only 3 ships plus the falcon returned

  • The one person who disliked this is Grand Moff Tarkin

  • Someone needs to design a firework that mimics the Deathstar's explosion...it's too frickin' epic!

  • These guys are morons. I would have pulled up, broke, then blasted Darth and the other two in three shots. :D

  • @bandman232 See, the thing is, decelerating in space is different than in a car. Because the engines are basically all in the back (more speed etc.) to slow down you basically turn off the engine, and you would still need a lot of space to stop. Because Darth Vader uses the force, and the other two were probably not idiots, when you pulled up and slowed down, they'd smash you in that instant. Also, if you did, then you would be too late to stop the Death Star from shooting, and you would die.

  • @viziertim Yes but space craft use mini reverse thrusters to slow down using opposing force. Im sure the engineers in star wars would have seen that by now.

  • 1:50 when Darth Vader and the other 2 storm their way in. It's like someone's about to get raped!

  • Rebel base 1 minute and closing.

Almost 2 minutes later: Rebel Base 30 seconds and closing

Over a minute later: Rebel Base in range

  • @Mprator Rebel base 2 minutes and closing.

YOU SAID THAT TWO MINUTES AGO!

Rebel base 1 hour and closing.

    WAIT WHAT!?

DEATH STAR HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR AND MUST BE SHUT DOWN.

  • @Herufaia What amazes me is that the Death Star can't even travel to light speed, and yet it somehow got to Yavin in just a couple cut-scenes! Yet, it takes the Death Star forever just to go around a planet!

  • @starflame34 i got a tip for you. type in the death star in to google and look for death star-wookiepedia,the star wars wiki and read. it says it can travel at superluminal velocites so basicly it can go in to hyper space

  • This is what happens when you grab two random dudes and tell them to watch your back. With the TIE fighters already deployed, there's probably a reason why those two guys were just standing around twiddling their thumbs. Poor Vader. :(

  • Luke no-scopped that bitch >:D

  • The second Death Star was much larger than the first one hence why it took longer for the chain reaction.

  • And fire! BOOOM!!!!

  • the force is strong with this one !!!

  • 4:13 Wat?! What country are you from? What aint no country I ever heard of. Do they speak English in What? ENGLISH MOTHAFUCKER DO YOU SPEAK IT!?

  • Darth Vader: "Wat!"

  • Darth Vader did't like the video

  • @cokiemix I rather liked that comment...especially since it is actually just ONE person who didn't like it...so it obviously has to be him!

  • "You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!"

Even now after seeing it countless times, I feel like cheering every time Han appears to save his ass. It's one of the most epic moments in film.

  • 4:13 wat

  • you're all clear kid, now lets blow this thing and go home!

  • this film is a masterstroke in exciting film editing. No wonder it won the Oscar

  • "USE THE FORCE, LUKE"

    ;____;

  • why didn't luke and biggs try to protect red leader and the two fighters in the trench? they could have tried to come behind vader's fighters and attack them, but they just sat there and did nothing.

  • Its funny how Harrison Ford's career was the only one that wasn't ruined by Star Wars :P

  • imagine all those people in the rebel base panicking because luke turned off his targeting computer

  • @killergeeks Luke turning off targeting computer= best troll of all time.

  • @killergeeks He turned it off because he was getting distracted by facebook, reddit, and twitter he had on it

  • Did the 2nd Death Star take longer to blow up? B/c I doubt Luke could've flown the entire radius of this Death Star in the time it took to blow up (starting after the power generator's destruction).

  • @xtremespeed128 All he needed to do was turn upward. He wasn't inside the Death Star.

  • @Crymson1 I'm thinking of the proton torpedos. About 10 seconds passed between between their entrace to the Death Star and the explosion (perhaps 5 seconds for the explosion). In Espisode VI, the rebel ships appeared to take longer to fly out of the second Death Star.

  • @xtremespeed128 The method of attack was different. Death Star I's flaw lay in a thermal exhaust port; slotting some torpedoes down it caused a quick chain reaction in the station's power supply. Death Star II's reactor was destroyed by a direct attack on its reactor using lasers. Understandably, the two methods produced results in different amounts of time.

  • So "holding" off enemy fighters involves sitting there waiting for them to inevitably kill you.

  • @Brundirks They provided a shield for the lead fighter, yes.

  • @Brundirks Thats the job I want

  • If you watch 0:07 in slow mo you'll see that red ten's (the guy who blows up there) helmet is different

  • 4:43 and BOOM goes the dynamite

  • 2:50 onwards, the reason Star Wars is better than the bible!

  • Use the force Luke, just like i showed you with those puppets but don't tell :P

  • For me the music is what makes this definitely epic. Everything, from the glorious entrance to the battle, to the desperate situation near the end with only Luke, Wedge and Biggs left, to the all or nothing situation with Luke, to the triumphant victory at the end.... I love it.

  • @ForcheAlex

    It's terrific.

  • "The Force is strong with this one..."

Aaaaaah! Gives me the chills every time!

  • 2:06, I notice Wedge isn't protesting!

  • What's really cool is, this battle plays out sort of like a bombing run.

  • "Use the force Luke, let go Luke" Ahhhhh gets me everytime

  • God Bless Lucas for letting this be on you tube (I'm guessing). Fuck everyone who doesn't let their stuff on. I should be able to watch any movie or tv show I want for free in one place.

  • "It will be just like Beggars Canyon back home!" Love that line...

  • Wedge needs more screen time. So does Obi-Wan.

  • Ben wouldn't' shut up

  • I never understood the YEAHHHHHHH death of red leader

  • @xKalamity he was probably trying to hit a certain part of the death star with his doomed x-wing, and he wanted to take as many empireans, if you will, with him

  • Wait a minute...all those guys that went tout to fight...and only Luke Wedge and some Random dude in a Y-wing make it back?

  • @AZngsta2 any less and it would be game over man...game over!

  • 2:13, BIG MISTAKE Vader; BIG MISTAKE! (As the missions with Wedge in the Rogue Squadron games have shown) Plus, he was the only Rebel pilot to survive all 3 major battles! (Sadly, Luke only flew two times)

  • the music that starts up when the Death star reaches in range and when Luke has to shoot the exhaust port is just epic!

  • you worry about those fighters, i'll worry about the tower

  • @bluesbrother936 what tower???? I never understood that.

  • Okay, I have to say it just in case no one else did. HOW did Darth Vader miss hitting Luke when he fired at him ("I have you now!") BEFORE Han Solo destroyed one of his two companions?

  • @Dac719 As my Dad used to say....you wanna ruin the story??

I'm more wondering how Darth didn't run right up Luke's ass when he hit R2!

  • Vader sounded kind of like a drunk guy at 4:16.

  • Turbo Laser towers make some of the coolest sounds ever.

  • 3:04 the shift in music and hearing Obi-Wan's voice tears me up every time.

  • OMFGs, did you notice the microsoft points symbol at :05

  • I love the scene where the death star explodes!^^

  • Looking back, Wedge got lucky when that TIE only damaged his engine...

if the TIE pilot shot him down,

who knows what would have happened to Rogue Squadron and all those fighters at Endor?

for all we know, Endor might have been lost without Wedge helping Lando lead the fighter squadrons...thank goodness Wegde didnt die.

  • WTF is he saying at the beginning of the video?! lol!

  • At 0:05 Rebel pilot's helmet changes to Dacks from Empire Stikes Back.

The Y-wing pilot is Keyan Farlander (PC in the first of the X-wing series) normally a X-wing pilot, but reasigned after Luke took his fighter, and later would become a Jedi.

  • This is still the greatest moment in cinematic history. While there have been many wonderful stories and scenes created over the years, there is just nothing that has ever come to match it, neither before nor since.

  • Honestly, Darth Vader had a million chances to shoot Luke down, but he didn't for the sake of the plot.

  • So... is biggs or wedge better? Fuck I wanna see a 1 on 1 dogfight between both of em

  • @gamapg Wedge is obviously better! Biggs is a fuck wit for dieing out there and leaving Luke to die!

  • @thehalowarthog can't really say that because Biggs only died because he used himself as a shield from Vader's lasers... so when Wedge was kinda damaged he bugged out while Biggs stayed, so I think Biggs won that one.... =/ hard to say who's better from how I see it

  • @gamapg Well if both of their X-wings were in great shape and they had to kill eachother with them, I'd still say Wedge would win because he could even survive this whole war and still participate in the New Republic's hunt for the remainings of the dieing Empire and the Second Galactic Civil War.

  • @gamapg well biggs is dead, but i'd put my money on wedge.

  • This battle never gets old

    My fav since childhood

  • "Great shot, kid. That was one in a million!"

I'm still getting goose pimples after all these years watching the best film ever made.

    God Bless America

  • "I HAVE YOU NOW"

  • Awesome!!!

  • Dam Extremist Rebellion Always stopping the Empire.

  • the empire should of just blown up the first planet so they would have a clear shot of yavin ....but noooo, they halft to go around it XD

  • @Foobyking9000

the other planet is a gas giant, like jupiter, so theres no surface to hit, its all gas's and probbably go right thrue unless it some how ignited the gas. also the gas planet's name is yavin, and the rebel base is on yavin 4 which is a moon. not another planet, like endor. in episode 6 endor is the planet and the ground battle takes place on the moon which is also named endor. i'm not sure if endor has anyother moons and thats why it has the same name
