  • In answer to a question on an earlier page, the first tune he plays before SiBeag Si Mor is the Scottish air 'Mull of the Mountains'.

  • ok i am convinced , just superb ,and all of you with negative comments, well shame on you, you need to sharpen your musical ears

  • wow!

  • Wow! This guy really makes the guitar sing!! What is it about Celtic music that is so touching?

  • I am trying to find some Steve Cooney on Itunes to buy it... why nothing there! Aaaaah!!!

  • The variation starting at 2:45 is one of the prettiest things I've ever heard...

  • It is all about the feeling in this -sparse and beautiful

  • The master in action again; others will try to learn it; doesn't matter, he always leads.

  • fabulous

  • I'd like to hear Pierre Bensusan cover this

  • 1 ot the best peices of guitar playing rver,,,truly gifted

  • Brilliant.

    Nuff said.

  • Legend!

  • Absolutely beautiful, one of the best guitar pieces i've ever heard

  • Ah Cooney, brilliant as usual - you bastard! Stil practicing An Phil Phluc and look forward to getting back to Ireland soon, Cheers, Phil M

  • This is a beautiful piece of music played so well here by Steve. Check out Liam O'Flynn and Planxty playing the same tune on the pipes its very special too.

  • cool, deadly, brilliant, nice one.....

  • O'carolan is perfection.

  • Happy Summer Solstice everyone! Steve's is the loveliest of this tune I've ever heard and I am dancing about the room.

Time it is a wee faerie the likes of me, to get about faerie doings as a faerie should be.

    Thanks Tom, for the video.

  • A real pleasure to listen to!

  • Such a lovely piece of music. Well played ♥

  • Dear friend 'Fairy Mounds' is truly A- mazing - my deep thanks to you Steven for rendering.

    Something is found.

I see him & I feel the past crawl across my skin & inside my bones.

And listening my heart aches for something lost.

But it was longer ago than 30 years, (when last we met) seems like it was 300 or more.

    Living both sides, every day.

When do I see you again? xPaul

  • Very 'artfully' performed/creative........I could listen to music *just like that* all day.....

  • Tha sin glË mhath! S'mise Robert :-)

  • Who can we lobby, plead with, entreat, bribe or beg to get Steve to make a cd of his guitar music available?

  • Fantastic, a very talented man.

  • Just beautiful ... is there a cd available of Steve's guitar music?

  • no!!.. its an absolute disgrace!! :L

  • Steve is coming from the background of the Highland Sessions but deserves a prime role !! Phalaïna

  • Immaculate accoustic guitar by Steve Cooney. Great.

  • is it just me or does this dude look like danny devito

  • Wonderful

  • Lovely. It's nice to see what Cooney can do, since he rarely takes the lead.

  • The name of the song is Molly Malone

  • Beautiful, - so evocative

  • does anybody know the name of the tune that he plays in the beginning before launching into Sheebeg? I'm pretty sure it's not a O'Carolan tune. Maybe it's just a nice little melody Cooney made up as an intro or something. Thanks

  • This was written by Turlough O Carolan, 17th or 18th Century Irish harpist. Some man, and great rendition

  • Poetry. This man is outstanding.

  • Best rendition of this song I've ever heard. I can never hear it enough.

  • Beautiful playing. Fair dues Steve.

  • My very favourite O'Carolan piece, if it's even possible to have a favourite of such exquisite music. What a masterful, sweet and playful rendition Steve did here! :)

  • WOW!!! He is fanthastic!!!

  • Irish folk guitar: very old song.

  • Beautiful playing. Witnessed Steve's playing many times over the years but most memorable were the Ballyshannon Festival marquee gigs with Seamus Begley. Thanks for the memories Steve and keep it coming.

  • Great playing!!

  • One more thing..Steve Cooney is to the guitar what Mick Fleetwood was to the drums.....does anyone see the resemblance.......It's pure Genius. Remember those nights in Whelans....magic!!

  • If you ever go to a music session in south west Kerry you will realies that every guitar player has the following line stamped across their performance " Steve Cooney was here" There's only one thing wrong with that.......None of them are Steve Cooney. I have heard him play many times and believe me no one even comes close....

  • I first met Steve in the early to mid 1980s when he played bass and didge. He is one of the nicest guys I ever had the pleasure to meet and work with.

  • question: is there lyrics for this song?

  • There are no lyrics for this tune, though someone may have set a song to it. Personally, I think it is beautiful the way it is, no need for words.

  • your right

  • @Spinozzi9 amen!

  • Steve is god of Celtic guitar, untouchable as a guitarist and producer. Tim Edey
