Tinny, the flaw in your logic is that you have presupposed that we all act rationally! I mean, people cooking with alcohol stoves are not "normal". Look a Shug! After all, we are a "cult". Also, you have to factor in the "neat" factor of putting all this stuff together. Haden+
And so we move on from the can(and thank god seeing as I come from Australia where we don't get them). A new dawn on the pot/stove quest. By the way, I pretty much agree with the mime artiste.
Tinny, I am so happy you finally came to this epiphany. This is what I have been saying forever. I never liked the beercan for all the same reasons you mention. I have always been a big fan of a snowpeak 600 or 700 with a bios stove. But after looking into Imusa, I may have found a 10cm pot WITH a lid and a strainer for $7. I got an imusa grease dispenser (.09qt) and it is not bad. Check it out. The 700 lid fits it perfectly too. However your lid is more lighter and compact.
Ive been using the same Heiny pot with no add ons, just a simple cut top using the top as the lid for a year now. absoultey cant part with it!!!! Yea its a bit banged up but like you said, im one of those who cant afford the top notch gear, sometimes less is more! On a side note, the Heiny boils a larger volume, so less burns to make enough potable water on those long distance hikes. Maybe better for some people maybe not, its all about getting out there and enjoying it anyway!
I have been saying this same thing for awhile now.
Question on those IMUSA pots for ya tinny. I have never seen one so I do not know the weld-points. Can a person take a little Dremel and cut off the handle without causing damage to the weld point of where they tack the handle to the pot?
Seems like a logical thing to do for those of us with limited pack space, so I thought you might be able to share your thoughts on if that would be doable or not.
@RedwoodOutdoors 65 grams after the handle has been removed (on the smaller pot)... not the lightest, but a good option for an inexpensive and sturdy pot nonetheless.
A SnoPeak 450 is 68 grams and holds 14 fluid ounces.
The IMUSA 10 holds 24 fluid ounces.
And regardless of what some of the guys here on youtube might try to say, the thermal conductivity of Titanium is way lower (21.9) than that of Aluminium (237) which means it should heat up much faster, and thus use less fuel.
Change is constant. Thanks for the video. Many of the issues you comment on have moved beyond a good idea into full orthodoxy and they might not even be 'best practices' anymore.
During the 60s & 70s, aluminum emerged as a suspect in Alzheimer’s. This suspicion led to concern about exposure to aluminum through sources such as pots, beverage cans, antacids and antiperspirants. Since then, studies have failed to confirm any role for aluminum in causing Alzheimer’s. Experts now focus on other areas of research, and few believe that these sources of aluminum pose a threat.
Great vid. I agree--sometimes the DIY bug takes over and the obsession with making your own thing ends up costing far more than buying a product that works just fine or better than what you can make yourself and it costs less.
Not one bit of foot shooting. It's important to see where the market is going and surf that wave. You keep on the wave your surfing you'll end up beached. Good, honest salesmanship there. I'm just ticked that I took a break from the web today and when I got back Tinny had made, posted and sold out of the lids I'm looking to buy one of. Arghh!
Hey tinny big fan i just orderd the BIOS4 would that work well fith a fosterr pot?? and also i made my order on 11/26/11 order 735 has that shipped out buy chance i never got an email back. please let me know so i wount worry anymore. thanks so much tinny

Pick a can from a dumpster vs buy a can and drink it up.............hahahah....I would drink a can-o-beer any day....twice on Sundays. :)

Problem with Fosters pot is..... Who in their right fucking mind drinks that horrible beer. Aussies learnt a LONG time ago not to drink it.
mryellow123 3 months ago
@mryellow123 I agree. I haven't had one in probably 20 years. I bought one just to make a pot and after two big gulps I just poured it out.

@RedwoodOutdoors They're riveted on. I took a hack-saw and a small file to mine... no more handle!

@intenseangler Excellent to hear!! Do you happen to have a gram weight of the pot after you did so, along with what size pot you have? Thanks!

@codya95 the mbd bios is prolly not the best for a fosters pot. the flame pattern is going to be a bit wide
VAbackpacker 3 months ago
@codya95 the bios is way to big for a fosters pot. the elite is more the size you need but that is not even ideal. i think an m1 or m2 is ideal

I also think Tinny should keep rings and spines for the beer cans
But for the price of the imusa pot
For sure the best bang for your buck
