After searching for half an hour, I found someplace to watch this. The movie was actually an interesting aspect of the horror/slasher genre. Not the norm. There was one part I though was completely unnecessary, but I enjoyed it!
I saw this movie on a double bill with a movie that was equally disturbing: this geeky guy would bring women home, tie them up and put them in an all steel room in his basement and burn them alive with a flamethrower. I love horror, gore and exploitation movies, but this was almost too much. Anyone remember the title?
the mom, the starlet, the nurse, the secretary...of course these are the only roles women should play in films....and the 'monster' just appears to be a large-ish black man....propaganda much?

Aahh early 80s horror films. Back when you could show gratuitous nudity, rape, gore and violence. Today you have to wait for the "Directors Cut" or "Uncut" version.
@murdlok They certainly are more violent. Don't really see how they compare to the nudity of the 70s and early 80s movies, though. The message is clear-- Violence ok, sex not. Not a message I agree with, but I guess I'm in the minority.
@msudreaming i remember at a time when they used to show nudity on regular TV, but it will be a parental advisory, but they used to show it ALL, sorry for the kids these days, im glad to live thru the 80s it was a fun time as a young child.
I watched this terrible flick when I had it confused with "When A Stranger Calls" (1979).
I like how The Killer in this movie laughed each time after doing his thing, kind of whistling through his sinus like Muttley. That wasn't so much blood-curdling as it was irritating, like George Costanza from Seinfeld finally snapped and went on a killing spree.
What is up with these goof sounding movie tiltles that were made in the late 70's and early 80"s.Dont answer the phone,Something is out there,Dont go in the bathroom dad just walked out.lol I mean forreal they are like sentences.
@aoarecruiter I think if this movie were produced today, they might have to call it "THE PHONE" or "DEAD SIGNAL" or something even more ambiguous, with two or fewer syllables, as I expect most people have lost so much literacy since the 70s that they wouldn't be able to make it through a complete sentence. ;)
Its funny how the styles of filming and the music in the films have changed so much! completely different than the styles of today, even when you take away the fact that all of the women have bell bottoms and Farrah Fossit hair, the style of filming is still completely different, it was boring a tad boring back then. But with people today, they won't watch an entire film unless there's an explosion, killing, death or sex in every single scene. Its sad and why the films are so trashy today.
This movie was on IFC channel and it could never be shown today; not so much for the strangler murders (which for today's standards are not violent) but for the use of the N word. Perhaps in theaters it was standard exploitation grindhouse stuff but today's viewers look back and laugh at it's cheesiness. That's the same for all 70's and 80's horror films. I remember the 80's and was scared of such movies as a kid
@AmericanEvita YES!!! Ii remember the part where he was trippin out "talking" to his pop. i bust that niggas head pop! lol! me n my lil brother were laughing hysterically!!
@AmericanEvita aint it a fuckin' shame. what has our world come to? we've become a society of pseudo moralists that think nothing of carpet bombing a village killing men, women, children, dogs, cats, and chickens and at the same time, freak out when we hear the words Nigger, Spic, Kike, Faggot, etc.. these grindhouse horrors of the 70s and 80s might have been low budget, but could certainly set a sleazy/visceral mood and atmosphere better than say, oh...one of hundreds of shitty remakes of the 2000s and the WB teen show thrillers of the 1990s
@JoanCollins2009 It's good considering the time it was released. It has sort of a Ted Bundy/Hillside Strangler feel to it. The stranger played his role well. I was freaked out every time I saw him in the movie.

The dumb bitch at 1:25 is the best one. Real submissive slut got what she deserved.
