Matt IS the Doctor. And so was David. And so were all the others. Splendid fellows, all of them.
They make the part their own and I'm really glad they do. I love Nine, I love Ten, I love Eleven and have them be together on screen would be the most wonderful birthday present. Alas...
after reading the top comments I feel that its not Matt Smith thats missing it, I think its the writers, the episodes themselves are fantastic, but they really don't reflect enough on what has happened. it is fair to say that half the characters aren't Moffat's so he won't touch on them as much, but I think the recent ones are missing the point... they're still brilliant, just missing something
There really are no words no matter how many variations I try to string together that can even put a dent into how completely and utterly brilliant and beautiful and remarkable this video is. It is beyond amazing.
I'm not trying to say all the other Doctors are 'rubbish', I was just saying Tennant has always been my favorite. Sorry if I ticked anyone off, that wasn't my intention. I've always thought Tennant did a remarkable job.
ill just point out. ALL OF THEM are the doctor you cant go around saying only one of them is "THE" doctor. the doctor is a man who's face and personality change every time he regenerates.
they are all "THE" doctor no matter what you idiots say.
I wonder how many of the people who comment on these videos saying "David was the best and Matt is rubbish!" are even aware of the 25 years of Doctor Who that existed before Russ T Davies brought the show back to us. We all have our own favourite Doctor, that goes without saying, but the people who act as though Tennant is the only man to have ever excelled in the role are just plain wrong.
@TimeLordVitorious44 It was just my opinion. I've always found Tennant much better at playing The Doctor. Every time I think of The Doctor Tennant pops into mind. Smith is pretty good but like I said in my post he just doesn't really capture the 'spirit' of The Doctor. They're both fantastic actors, I just prefer Tennant.
He *is* the Doctor he wants to be close to the Humans but he knows that what will happen, he will out live all his companions he lives outside of time outside of most peoples lives he is alien in the sense that he wants to be close but he cant and it kills him inside
@Spuffy98 The Age of Steel, and it's Rose talking to Mickey, once he's told them he's staying in the parallel world. She says "All those years just sitting there, imagining what we'd do one day...we never saw this, did we?"
Thank you for a brilliant video. The best parts for me were at 0:55 where the Doctor is holding back tears and the volume of the music increases; and the hilarious Donna saying "You want to mate?" which makes it that much harder now because of how her time with the Doctor ended. :(
You know what I don't really like about seasons 5 and 6? Aside from River Song there is practically NO connection to these epic times. It's like they didn't matter or even exist and I really hate that. :( I mean, there were connections through seasons 1-4 but 5 and 6 literally just stand there on their own and seem to pretend as if none of these brilliant characters ever mattered. It's sad and I think a poor story telling choice. ...Also I just miss David A LOT!
@TheSecretBella I agree completely. I'm warming to some of the new stuff, but they need to do some more references to the other seasons. A little continuity...just a bit, to make those of us who liked those seasons happy. Also, I miss David too!!!
@Perinlyn Funny, I was thinking that they made too many references to his earlier incarnations. There was the montage of earlier Doctors and companions in the first episode, his library card in Vampires of Venice (ok, that one was funny), "reverse the polarity of the jelly baby," and meeting Sarah Jane and Jo on SJA. Probably a few others, too.
@BlackMonk66 All true, actually. The funny thing is, they make more references to the old series than they do to the past few seasons. Which is really nice, but I guess I just wish there was a little more of the ninth and tenth Doctor's experiences and relationships present in these episodes, since those should be more recent, and thus more fresh. Maybe it's unrealistic of me...I do like the new stuff too. Also, I agree, the library card was really funny.
@Perinlyn I'd guess the real world reason is Moffatt wants to do his show and not RTD's. In story, maybe it's easier to go back over the old stuff because there's some distance. I mean, I think Ian and Barbara broke his heart as much as Rose did, but that was 40 years ago. I can see pros and cons with someone returning from the earlier series. I'd like to see Capt. Jack or Wilf again, but I'd hate for Doctor Who to be a show where you needed to know a lot of its history to enjoy it.
@BlackMonk66 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And it is nice to be able to just jump in, without having to watch everything else. Still, hopefully Jack will come back at some point.
@Perinlyn I bet they'll bring him back for the fiftieth anniversary. I can see him becoming like the new season's version of the brigadier. Just as long as they keep in mind that they're making episodes for the 8-15 year olds who've never seen the show before more than they're making them for people like me who've been watching for decades.
@TheSecretBella but, in the timeline, those times didn't really exist. Tennant is brilliant and Smith becomes brilliant too. Step-by-step. Watch him do HIS 4th season.
@TheSecretBella agreed! it was like such a climax to a sorrowful ending ..then the 11th doctor pops up cracking witty jokes and carelessly brushing aside the emotions and depth .. dont get me wrong the 11th is doing a fine job now but the story could have used a smoother transfer with some moments of reflection ..the 9th got that with 10th in his sleep stasis
@ILoooooveCamels The Age of Steel, and it's Rose talking to Mickey, once he's told them he's staying in the parallel world. She says "All those years just sitting there, imagining what we'd do one day...we never saw this, did we?"
Why did I crack up the moment Sarah Jane started to speak? Man, I need to do exactly as she said- move forward. And this is an amazing video... What software did you use?
@carlstss Until the new Series started, mine was Tom Baker. Now I love each and every new one for the unique perspective they bring to the character.
Absolutely Fantastic! Matt is okay, but David shall forever be My Doctor! You've got me sobbing again. No other character has touched me like David Tennant's Dr. Who. He is greatly missed! The relationship he shared with Rose was epic. Great job on this tribute!
@gabe505fly5 Turn Left- Donna Noble used a special mechanism with Rose Tyler's help allowing her to stop her turning the wrong way stopping her meeting the doctor.
This is just BRILLIANT! Absolutely beautiful, the subject matter is beautiful too but this just tops everything! :D David Tennant, 10th Doctor, will always be my doctor. This video tribute is completely BRILLIANT! (Everytime I use that word, it's 10's voice in my head :D)
Oh, my God, it is absolutely gorgeous and so sad!I Ilike Matt, still, David is gonna be *my* Doctor forever and ever. Thank you for the most delicious video!
I agree that Matt is a good doctor, but David...just...wow. He *is* the doctor. He played the emotions just right, when he got angry he was really angry; when he was sad it made me want to cry my eyes out. He was a brilliant doctor and I wish he hadn't regenerated but...all good things must come to an end. Like I said, Matt's good and is my second favorite but I haven't seen him quite capture the 'spirit' of the doctor. Yet. Great video.
@Hawandy456 Matt is kind of reaching my expectations. I think Matt is a bit more out there like The Doctor is intended to be he kind of hits the crazy points just like David did (And by crazy I mean that in a good way! :D )
@Dogthebob6 Don't get me wrong I think Matt's okay, I've always preferred David. 'Childish' is something I've always connected to Tennant and Smith and I'm glad they can act 'childish'. Like I said, "I haven't seen him quite capture the spirit of the doctor. Yet." He's getting there and working towards it, something I'm grateful for, but to me personally Tennant has always just 'felt' right. Smith does a fantastic job and is a great actor, Tennant is just my favorite.
However hard I try, I can't run with Matt.. I dont think he's bad, he's just not Tenant.. he's just not the doctor.. The enthusiasm, the personality, so full of life, he was brilliant ! I will always think of David Tenant as the doctor, sorry Matt, but the song ended with David..
i still miss Tennant too. While it's minority thinking, I still have yet to connect with 11. A lot of the emotional qualities I've endeared to Doctor Who died with Tennant. Call me a "fan girl" if you will but the raw intensity 9 & 10 got me; hook, line, and sinker.
This is brilliant! It's very touching and therefore a perfect tribut to David, who is a brilliant and very touching actor. Everyone should bring so much happyness and warmth in the world like this Doctor :)
... I was perfectly fine until that last line. Then I teared up. I may have really gotten into the series with the 9th Doctor and I favor the 4th Doctor a lot, but the 10th Doctor will always be MY Doctor :<<<
wow... that was beautiful, i'm crying as i type this. great tribute to the 10th Doctor. Matt Smith isn't horrible, but David will forever be my Doctor. thank you for this video :)
If I ever take over RTD and SM in the Future (Wich I am hoping to do.. not for many years mind you) I will Definately Do something In memory of DT.. Perhaps another.... Children in Need Special similar to Time Crash? =D
GORGEOUS. no words for how beautiful this is. oh just. OH. beautiful. beautiful beautiful. I have no coherent compliment i can offer you, because i'm blubbering like a baby. seriously STUNNING.
Well done. This must have taken a lot of work to overlay the different images and sound bites. How long did it take you to do? Did you go into this knowing what scenes you wanted to use or did you have to search for them?
i want david back, the best doctor since tom baker. this is really sad i cried first time i saw this well done really enjoyed this thank you for making it x
It is true that matt is more like the originals. Comepletely daft an crazy and once the writers got the hang of his style it was better. Didn't work well in the beginning trying to be the powerful almighty time lord when he's a bit daffy. And I guess that what Tennant was. His doctor had many names, time lord, angel, lonely god. Tennant's doctor was powerful and full of sadness and rage and hurt. None of the other doctors had that. Its something I'll miss.
I still Miss David as No.10 and its been 9 months i really miss him thank you for your awesome tribute i really love it im crying my eyes out right now :'( xx
@CaptainJack0099 I'm still missing him too, but I also like 11. People say that it's been turned into a kids' show but the truth is that it's become more polarized - the silly bits are sillier and the dark bits are darker. It's actually more like old-who and I appreciate that. Tenant will always be my doctor, but I don't hate Smith.
@MeNarutoMe You mean the Doctor crying while holding a guy in a suit -- woman in red dress in the background? It's from "Last of the Time Lords", Series 3 Episode 13.
Just because they were on an episode with the Doctor does not make them a companion. Sarah and Astrid never traveled with the Doctor. Mickey never would've referred to himself as one of the Doctor's companions. And maybe I missed something but I have no idea who Wilf is.
@LondonGamer986 Oh, Wilfred. Was drawing a complete blank on the name Wilf.
And to clear up something else I said, Sarah never traveled with the CURRENT Doctor. While she is the Doctor's (in general) companion, she never traveled with this incarnation.
awsome video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! made me cry. just wanted to know what episode roses quote from 1:45 to 1:55 is from. where she says "all those years just sitting there, imagining what we'd do one day..."
@elwynne411 that would be at the end of the episode called "The Age Of Steel" where they leave the parallel universe & Mickey stays there. Episode 6 of season 2!
Gorgeous video, beautifully edited. A fitting tribute to the tenth Doctor. Of course he doesn't really die, he regenerates, he's the same man, so it's okay :)
This is amazing! I really really love it! All of the voices and...it's just...wow.
Do you get the sound and the video separately? That's the only way I can think of to have it change so smoothly xD Because usually when I see people have actual lines from the show it has all the music and stuff from the scene as well and then abruptly cuts off when they go to something else.
@deacon958 I know my favorite comic and gaming shops have Doctor Who merchandise, (not really for a reason other than it's solid good geek stuff), but if there's none around you, I believe the BBC online shop sells 10 and 11's sonics.
I was so sad when he left. I actually knew he was going to have to leave because I watched the season after it had already ended and started with Christopher Eccleston. I hated when David left. I cried so hard my head started to hurt. The worst part was when he had his meltdown at the end when he knew he'd have to save Donna's grandfather. He was brilliant and he made me cry. Best Doctor ever. I really like Matt Smith but I think it's impossible for him to top David. David was amazing.
I actually wish Steven Moffat would write a story where everybody except the doctor dies. I just realized what made David's doctor so great, it's the pain and the motion not just the crazy adventures. It'st he pain of everyone dying around him while he live on. It's the deaths that makes him want to save everyone. This is what drives his inner power. It's the deaths that create hope. The new series just doesn't have it.
@ToudaHell very well said! Moffat should kill somebody once in a while (don't get me wrong, I'm not cruel but this 'everybody lives' stuff starts to be boring...)
the Doctor Who show makes me think how noble and how wonderful the ways of God are. Charity, altruism, dying to save someone else, justice and many other wonderful ways of God
amazing job

The eleventh doctor may seem childish but that is because he is trying to forget about all he had lost.
Sometimes he cracks and lets it all out(In the second episode of season 5)
Just recently in the Lets Kill Hitler, he wanted someone he loved:Rose...
He is hiding from his past as the eleventh.

Well done. This must have taken a lot of work to overlay the different images and sound bites. How long did it take you to do? Did you go into this knowing what scenes you wanted to use or did you have to search for them?

It is true that matt is more like the originals. Comepletely daft an crazy and once the writers got the hang of his style it was better. Didn't work well in the beginning trying to be the powerful almighty time lord when he's a bit daffy. And I guess that what Tennant was. His doctor had many names, time lord, angel, lonely god. Tennant's doctor was powerful and full of sadness and rage and hurt. None of the other doctors had that. Its something I'll miss.

Does anyone else think that the voice-over-lady sounds like she's speaking at his FUNERAL?
RoseMMBlack 1 year ago
Just because they were on an episode with the Doctor does not make them a companion. Sarah and Astrid never traveled with the Doctor. Mickey never would've referred to himself as one of the Doctor's companions. And maybe I missed something but I have no idea who Wilf is.
clearshadows 1 year ago
@clearshadows Donna's grandad.
LondonGamer986 1 year ago
@LondonGamer986 Oh, Wilfred. Was drawing a complete blank on the name Wilf.
And to clear up something else I said, Sarah never traveled with the CURRENT Doctor. While she is the Doctor's (in general) companion, she never traveled with this incarnation.

@elwynne411 that would be at the end of the episode called "The Age Of Steel" where they leave the parallel universe & Mickey stays there. Episode 6 of season 2!

@LizzyMitts If you have the DVDs, there is a way of ripping only the dialogue...all the sound is on different tracks.

deacon958 1 year ago
@deacon958 I know my favorite comic and gaming shops have Doctor Who merchandise, (not really for a reason other than it's solid good geek stuff), but if there's none around you, I believe the BBC online shop sells 10 and 11's sonics.

David made love Doctor Who...my favorite doctor and he just left...
alexandru20013 1 year ago
I was so sad when he left. I actually knew he was going to have to leave because I watched the season after it had already ended and started with Christopher Eccleston. I hated when David left. I cried so hard my head started to hurt. The worst part was when he had his meltdown at the end when he knew he'd have to save Donna's grandfather. He was brilliant and he made me cry. Best Doctor ever. I really like Matt Smith but I think it's impossible for him to top David. David was amazing.
Katey2004 1 year ago 2
I actually wish Steven Moffat would write a story where everybody except the doctor dies. I just realized what made David's doctor so great, it's the pain and the motion not just the crazy adventures. It'st he pain of everyone dying around him while he live on. It's the deaths that makes him want to save everyone. This is what drives his inner power. It's the deaths that create hope. The new series just doesn't have it.
ToudaHell 1 year ago 2
@ToudaHell very well said! Moffat should kill somebody once in a while (don't get me wrong, I'm not cruel but this 'everybody lives' stuff starts to be boring...)
