And what happens to goalies who go into the butterfly when guys go top shelf? I know that the butterfly style is all the rage these days, but it's so very flawed
@gnrfreak25 Lower shots are still difficult to control when in the butterfly. And once you're down, you need more time to get your glove up to the same place it would be if you were still up. Maybe I'm just weird for making an unusual amount of stick saves so staying up longer fits me better
@ButtcrustiesWithJam sharpen your skates and dig your toe in hard. if you dont have the leg strength try lifting your lead leg (the one hats flush to the ice) to start practicing. when sliding keep that lead leg pointed to where you want to go or you wont get there. a lot of goalies sharpen their skates to have a better butterfly style play.
i'm sorry people who dislike this but this is THE best goal tending style in the world i really wish that i Could do camps! but, my family has no money and we live in California :P these videos are practically my only source of training and i can tell you that this has upped my game to practical the best i can be without actual hands on training. so for those of you who don't like this style, good luck.
I think this tecniques are great, for a goalie that's tall and has had experience. i'm looking for a vid for golies who are new smaller than average and Haven't played a Real game of Ice Hockey(I HAVE played pick up games with friends and spend 2 hours daily on street hockey with my brother-an excellent shooter). Also This for goalies who have a lot of finesse and whose style is graceful and orthodox. I would compare my style, Not Skill, to Tim Thomas.
@kmerkulov1 I don't care where you play you go around on other goalies video (who are much better than you) and say "you suck" and "watch my video" well guess what I watched your video and you fucking suck balls at hockey so why don't you shut the fuck up and go get better before insulting other goalies because you are clearly jealous of their ability.

Alright all you people who say being a goalie is easy, i bet you dont know that pro goalies face shots over 100 mph, and have about 0.36 seconds to react. try it out, its not that easy
@THEMATTBIGMAC Goaltending is challenging. 100mph in a game situation is quite an exaggeration though. Since NHL players don't even hit 100 mph consistently in the hardest shot competition.
being a goalie is not an easy. then again nothing about hockey is "easy" goalies however do have a simple job description- "stop the puck" when you get down to it thats what we're expected to do- yes it does involve complex movements and details that many people could never understand. but our job is to "stop the puck" nobody outside goalie coaches and other goalies give a rat's ass how Im a goalie and i accept that, the sooner the rest of us do the quicker we'll get better

very very nice. i can use this on this ice in practice but one thing to give you a tip on, after you stop the puck with your glove, bring it into your chest instead of just holding your glove where you caught the puck.
hey i am 14 i have played A and i want to play AA. i have been wondering how do you get better pushes of your heel from in your butterfly(stronger push) and is there any tips anyone can offer me for my angle and tracking the puck better.
Hey i need help with my goalie pads! im sorta short for my age so i dont want to get big pads should i get turco break or guegare break? to be like the goalie with the black and silver RBK pads?
If you were my teacher when I was young teen, I would have been at least twice better than I already am now at 27, most of what I learned was quasit only by myself and some coach tips...
I went to my first lesson with Zach I am way smoother faster and much stronger in goal. Zach is a great guy and gives you the knowledge and confindence you need to improve. I cant wait for more worth every penny. Thanks for helping out this old fart Zach
no one teaches stack the pads no mo, it is all about sliding aross the ice on your knees these days but i still like to roll around and stack the pads :)
@Jsouthwell2006 nobody teaches it because its a terrible move. Once your in that position they can easily roof it, and even if they dont they can get a rebound, and your screwed because it takes longer to get up
I just ordered this set of DVD's and was wondering if they're worth the money. I haven't seen them yet or any goalie training DVD for that matter. I just started playing net less then a year ago and have trouble closing my 5 hole. I'm 5'7" and wear reebok 34+1 pads. I loosened them and that helped but still not fully closed? any advice or do I need 34+2's or 34+3's? anyone have advice for me?
@hockeyfan1983 ditch reeboks. personal opinion. they always have bad 5 hole coverage. i use vaughn v4s and they are great. but if you like harder pads like reeboks go with brians focus or even vaughn epics.
@hockeyfan1983 change to vaughn... vaughn have stabilizers on their pads, it will help your butterfly, and bad choice of dvds... like that blocker down on the wrap around is terrible, due to the fact you drop your shoulder, and open up tons of holes and your stick ends up doing nothing. and just stretch more often for you butterfly.. but if you have the money, get 34 + 2s with a double break.. rbk rarely has double breaks, get vaughn :)
@APK38VIDEOS yeah money is too tight to go out and buy another set of $1000 pads man. maybe in a year or two. my rbk's actually do have the double break in them. I think I just needed to get a bigger plus size like +2's or +3's. owell it's an expensive learning curve I guess. I do like the rbk though, they're not bad but mine do have the double break too. next I guess I'll try vaughn's. I got a few movies too cheaper then a goalie camp anyways. thanks again man.
@hockeyfan1983 any movies you like or haven't you really seen any? I also bought the janosz DVD too. as well as this box set. all they had on goaliemonkey. that really the only web site I check for goalie stuff. All the stores here in michigan don't really carry em either. well thanks for the advice and I'll just keep working on getting better I guess. it's a fun hobby. I never played when I was younger started at 25-26 yrs old. so I just like to have fun out there. beer league hockey.
@MusicHockeyLove Yes it is a hyrid it consists of both the techniques of the butterfly and the standup style goaltending if you notice theyre covering most of the holes, if you watch Martin Brodeur you'l see what I mean.
I dont play goalie, but Ive never understood the paddle down thing on the glove side. Every time I see a goalie do it, I back up a few feet and roof it, and there isnt a damn thing the goalie can do.
@hockeymatt1994 it depends on how big the goalie is i dont know how old you are but goalies below highschool usually arnt that big but also its all about reading the play if the goalie isnt smart he will do that even if ur not doing a wrap around a goalie has to know exactly what the players doing
@bruinsrapecanadians I play midgets, and most of the goalies are pretty big. I shoot righty, so if the goalies go paddle down to block the wraparound, I just skate up a few feet, and spin and shoot over the goalies shoulder, and he cant really block it.
Look up Pat Kane's goal vs the Wild, and just kinda reverse the sides, and its that sorta idea
@hockeymatt1994 well the goalie has to know when your still behind the net what you are going to do then he will apply the correct system to try to stop it.
i got all three, i enjoyed them but the only problem was he talks to much about his program and what each dvd is about. I just think "prohybrid" whenever i play
@masterpwner40 wtf are you talking about. you can't form sentences, so you're probably not getting into college anyway. and I play college hockey and you are like 4 years away from it no one brags about being a desperation saver because even if you were being a good desperation saver you should be in good positioning to prevent being in that situation. desperation is desperation.
@masterpwner40 What I'm saying is that you are lying moron. I do play hockey and would school you moron. I play college hockey. "at least I say Im a good goalie" lmfao really? you have to be like 9. Seriously come on now. I could say I could fly it doesn't make that so.
@masterpwner40 "Im awesome at goalie my team says im the best desperations saver in the world im not the backup" Who in the world actually talks like that if they are actually a goaltender? Retard.
@masterpwner40 you're still only talking about goalie positioning in terms in nhl 10, and yeah im totally going to go off a youtube account for the most accurate personal information. fag.
hi everybody please answer this question: i played hockey for 4 years then i quited my favourite position was goaltender but did'nt keep that position beacause i was scared to let down the team the coach did'nt know so i was a center then i knowed that it would'nt work so i quited and i wondering if hat was the right dession? please answer!!!!!
aha yeah only like 5 players on my team understand the difficulty of playing goalie they all say wow how didnt you save that and one practice me and the other goalie went forwards and 2 players went in net and at the end all they said was damn i give you guys so much more respect and credit its hell out there and i hate it lol
Nice grammar...and no, I'm a goaltender and goalie coach with over a decade of experience. I think any player who believes goaltending is the easiest job out there has some serious problems.
Oh and also you asked a question, I answered, and now I ask if there was any need for the childish name calling you displayed? Predicting your response to be the same as above I will also add,
lmao u really are a looser and good for you mate thats very nice of you to teach people how to play in goal. Now go and do that instead of writing back you idiot lol u make me laugh
any goalies here ever get pissed off with the players thinking that being a goalie is really easy and we only have to stand there or is it just my team mates?
hahaha yeah man exactly wot i did to 1 of my player and he went in and about 20 mins later he came out and shook my hand and said fair play man i dunno how u do it im dead haha so they should all give it a goo and see how we feel, they dont realise our gear weighs double thiers haa
i agree 100 percent also there always liek we lost because of the goalie and its so easy why cant he stop the pucks but theyre doing shit all i know how you feel i told my team captain to go in net and he couldnt stop pucks for shit and we work our ass off every game to stop pucks flying at us at a high speed
To those out there who don't think that this style of goaltending works, trust me it does. Im 16 and I do private lessons with Zach as well as watch his video's/DVD's. To clear things up on the paddle down wrap, when the skater is coming around the back of the net you get on your post, track over your shoulder, lead to the other post, then make your paddle down move when you see that the skater is commiting to it. A trick that you can do, when you put your paddle down, "angle" it towards the
boards so that if the player makes an attempt to pass it in front. he either has to risk the saucer pass or pass it more towards the dot area on the near side so its a lot easier of a save. Zach taught me that as well. Ive been working with Zach on the ice for 2 years and I am going to continue using his techniques and training style.
to wrist shot with a goalie glove make sure your glove it almost next to your hand then you turn your hand so the stick fits perfectly in the crease then close ur glove and use ur glove as just a lever and push with ur glove and pull down on the stick end, garuntee and perfect pass not a flipper
To wrist shot with a glove on is a hard question. Everyone dose it differently; doing it correctly has alot to do with what works for you. As for me, i use the top of the shaft/butt of the stick with my block hand. The glove hand is used solely for support. You have to remember that a sticks curve has a lot to do with your shot, just as it would if you were a player The technique, as with anything, takes time to perfect and gain power with your shot
Another great goalie video is "The Puck stops Here" with Jim Park. Even though the film is about 20 or so years old you can still learn and review the basics equally as well, look it up.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
when recovering from a butterfly, twisting your body to the puckis just a waste of energy and time. just bring up your outside leg like a coil and c step over.
Modern technique teaches Squarness, Angle and Depth in that order. You always want to gain a visual lead and rotate your upper body to maintain squareness and it also helps build momentum for a recovery or backside push
wow this is a great dvd i just started to play goalie does any one know were to get this full dvd because it helped alot just 4 mins it teaches yu alot.
watch any elite level goalie and this is the style they use... it's all about positioning and technique... this IS the most effective system in use... I will be buying these videos
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the goalie with the white pants stance is too wide, u shouldn't have any space between your shoulders and the top of the post unless your under 5 foot 10
And what happens to goalies who go into the butterfly when guys go top shelf? I know that the butterfly style is all the rage these days, but it's so very flawed

Nice grammar...and no, I'm a goaltender and goalie coach with over a decade of experience. I think any player who believes goaltending is the easiest job out there has some serious problems.
Oh and also you asked a question, I answered, and now I ask if there was any need for the childish name calling you displayed? Predicting your response to be the same as above I will also add,
Really?
lessinbeen 2 years ago 35
lmao u really are a looser and good for you mate thats very nice of you to teach people how to play in goal. Now go and do that instead of writing back you idiot lol u make me laugh
monokid123 2 years ago
Thankfully it's a two way street. And it's spelled "loser" and "you".
Bye now!
lessinbeen 2 years ago
@lessinbeen Goalie might not be the easiest job in the world, but it sure is the most fun!
buhler32 1 year ago
any goalies here ever get pissed off with the players thinking that being a goalie is really easy and we only have to stand there or is it just my team mates?
monokid123 2 years ago 41
yeah my teamates always think its easy so i told one to get in net and he couldnt do it for 10 mins and he was tired as hell
audkiller921 2 years ago
hahaha yeah man exactly wot i did to 1 of my player and he went in and about 20 mins later he came out and shook my hand and said fair play man i dunno how u do it im dead haha so they should all give it a goo and see how we feel, they dont realise our gear weighs double thiers haa
monokid123 2 years ago
your teammates are clearly retarded
lessinbeen 2 years ago
i agree 100 percent also there always liek we lost because of the goalie and its so easy why cant he stop the pucks but theyre doing shit all i know how you feel i told my team captain to go in net and he couldnt stop pucks for shit and we work our ass off every game to stop pucks flying at us at a high speed
MooseHeads99 2 years ago
@monokid123 No it's my teams too! I tell them to shut the fuck up and play defense
TheWittenWacko 1 year ago

Ive been working with Zach on the ice for 2 years and I am going to continue using his techniques and training style.

to wrist shot with a goalie glove make sure your glove it almost next to your hand then you turn your hand so the stick fits perfectly in the crease then close ur glove and use ur glove as just a lever and push with ur glove and pull down on the stick end, garuntee and perfect pass not a flipper
viper131st 2 years ago
it is sooo easy to wrist shot with a glove
vagelihockey 2 years ago
this is some of the best goalie instruction i've seen.
matt97c83 2 years ago
To wrist shot with a glove on is a hard question. Everyone dose it differently; doing it correctly has alot to do with what works for you. As for me, i use the top of the shaft/butt of the stick with my block hand. The glove hand is used solely for support. You have to remember that a sticks curve has a lot to do with your shot, just as it would if you were a player The technique, as with anything, takes time to perfect and gain power with your shot

Another great goalie video is "The Puck stops Here" with Jim Park. Even though the film is about 20 or so years old you can still learn and review the basics equally as well, look it up.

RBK goalie is too crouched down because his pads are way too seperated its impossible to have a good push if your knees are almost touching the ice

either he has strong legs or overdrive blades

when recovering from a butterfly, twisting your body to the puckis just a waste of energy and time. just bring up your outside leg like a coil and c step over.
brad441 2 years ago
that takes so much more effort.. it takes a split second to rotate your body as you get up
overnightadventure 2 years ago
Modern technique teaches Squarness, Angle and Depth in that order. You always want to gain a visual lead and rotate your upper body to maintain squareness and it also helps build momentum for a recovery or backside push

the goalie with the white pants stance is too wide, u shouldn't have any space between your shoulders and the top of the post unless your under 5 foot 10
