Hello! Just bought the camera and noticed the huge gaps between the 1-minute video segments. I have another problem though, seems i cannot have access to the menu? I plugged the camera and it keeps filming while it's being plug and the remote control is useless (even though i know it's working since i see the "LED" flashing when i press on a button looking back at me trying the remote). Any idea how to fix the issue? I would love to set my time and (if it's possible) the time for each segment
I'm still tempted by this camera. I bought the DVR-007 a few weeks ago and I am very pleased with it but this camera seems to handle changes of light better and the actual device looks a lot smaller.
Are you still pleased with the camera and what is the build quality like?
I might wait until DOD-TEC hopefully fix some of the issues with it first.
What does it mean when you bought it as a 'sample', do you have to give it back or what? Also, how do you contact them, I checked the website and it doesn't state clearly where to contact. Thanks!
@TeamYankee2 not on the first-generation unit I have. DOD-TEC says they can on the current production version - but I cannot verify. I did get a notice this AM about a new version of the GS600 they're coming out with that includes a flip down 1.5" LCD monitor. All I have is the PN: GSE550...
@caldinin It's a self-storage facility. They have various size storage compartments. I have seen people store their Harley bikes, but most it's junk they don't want in their garages.
2-5 second gap between each 1 minute video segment (might be self-inflicted as I'm using class 2 16gb microSD). DoD recommends using minimum class 4. HUGE GPS lag between actual speed an what is displayed (15-30 seconds). Still, if it's all you have in your car, it's worth it. DOD says they're working on the delay issue.
Are you aware that a US distributor of DOD-TEC products has just opened in Houston, TX? Their web address is DOD-TEC . US and their prices seem very good. I asked them some questions about the GS600 and apparently it can now display speed in MPH and the GPS lag issue seems like it may have been fixed. The recording gap however is still there and they are contacting their manufacturers about the issue now. I wonder what the recording gap would be like with a decent class 10 card?
@Zildjian285 That's great news. One of the reasons I have not bought another GS600 for my wife's car was the uncertainty about their fixes - and if they haven't fixed them, sending it back to get it fixed (if/when a fix is available) is not feasible. And, given that DOD in Taiwan(?) said the first generation units CANNOT be fixed (hardware limitations), I really screwed to pooch. I'm in no hurry. Thanks for the heads up on the US distributor. Let me know what you find out about class 10...
It'll be easier and cheaper for me to buy it from the US, too. The only thing stopping me from buying one right now is the recording gap between files. I asked the US distributor about it and they said on their sample the gap was 7 seconds! They may be using a really poor SD card though. If the gap is 2 seconds or less with a class10 card then I will order one. It does look like the other issues with the device have been fixed.
@Zildjian285 i would definitely ask them to verify... even with two seconds, Murphy finds a way to thread that needle. About a month ago, I was rear ended (no damage to my truck) at a red light. My rear-facing HD720P (which has a 3 second gap every 15 minutes) caught the girl rolling up on me, then gap, then, me looking surprised. She hit me right during that 3 second gap! Does then new GS600 record longer than 1 minute per segment? Wonder what the longest recording interval can be.
They said it records in 1 minute segments with a 7-8 second gap, which is completely unacceptable. They only discovered the issue themselves a couple of days ago and they are contacting the manufacturer about it now. As soon as they have a reply they will let me know, so we're all basically waiting for them to fix this last issue. They're also trying to find out whether the new model (GSE550 & GSE580) has the same issue.
This is odd... I just found a video on youtube of the GS600 and it's exactly 5 minutes long with absolutely no gaps in recording... Maybe the latest version can record in 5 minute segments after all? The video is: watch?v=ZmtcF9VTeJw
I've watched the whole thing and didn't notice any gaps or time skips, etc.
Yes - the stamp can be turned off completely. That has to be done through a TV/monitor hooked up either through the HDMI port or the composite video port. I have not tried it, as the speed/date information is critical if you're going to use this in court for defense.
@jethou1 No! Stay away from IR leds on anything inside the car facing out any window... The reflection will make any image completely useless. the only time i've seen IR LEDs used on a mobile system is with inward facing cameras...
@erkme73 I couldn't get a wide angle HD model of the type I wanted without IR, so I got the DVR-207 with IR but the IR LEDs are not visible at all to the naked eye and do not seem to affect the night time video. I will post a clip later.
You'll have to contact DOD-Tec to find out what their pricing structure is. I was able to snag a sample from them for about $200 including shipping from China to USA. I am considering buying a bunch and reselling (their bulk prices are pretty attractive) - but given the state of the economy and limited disposable income from most Americans, I think the timing is bad.
Thanks. Have you tested it in the dark yet? Image quality looks very impressive. I've been waiting for something like this to come along for the best part of a year now. What's the actual design and more importantly the mount like? I was previously tempted to get the F500HD but the poor mount completely put me off.
I think you'd probably make a decent profit if you started selling these on Ebay. I'm not very comfortable buying it directly from DOD-TEC and would much rather buy it on Ebay, where I am protected with Paypal. If you sold these on Ebay you could sell to the whole world.

if gap is card related, than OK, and GPS will probably be fixed as firmware upgrade. They are selling for $148 now.

Does your model have the IR night vision? I am tempted to get one that does, but I am worried the LEDs will reflect from the windscreen at night.

Dod-tec will accept paypal payments for single (sample) orders. It's pricier than bulk, but it's what I did.
