I heard he loved Croatia very much. He helped us gain our independence to pay off all the bad things house of Habsburg did to Croatians. He truly was a good man. Rest in peace our undestined King! :)
Thanks for uploading your video! I was present at this unique event myself and as a matter of fact, you've filmed ME! If you like, send me your email address and I'll email you my film and perhaps you discover yourself!
I envy you for your being present at this marvelous and historic occasion, although I have seen much on Youtube. I wanted to visit Austria in 2009 for the 200th anniversaries of Haydn's death and the battles of Aspern-Essling and Wagram (in which the Habsburg forces held off the great Napoleon and his Grande Armee for 2 days with 50,000 fewer men! Unfortunately, I had no money. Kein Geld. Austria exists and Vienna was the great cultural capital because of the Habsburgs. Thanks.
Had he ruled, he would been longest reigning monarch and head of state in history (with exception to disputable 'legendary' rulers). Austria, Europe and the world would have benefited.
Yeah. Very impressive. Bring back the Kaiser, German for Caesar, and one-family reign of "nobles", the most successful pirates. Endless war und endless stupidity. Nationalism concentrating rule, which congeals torrents of blood. "But we'll WIN", think the losers to their basest emotion.
Surely Austrians are not that retarded, to fall for this primitive nostalgia. In the Age of the Hoax that is the Security Police State, no societal lobotomy is impossible.
@craigbhill European monarchies are not like that anymore you ignorant yank! These days monarchy is a symbol of unity and an old exotic tradition, they are also powerless since along time ago! In this age when life is becoming more and more based on consumation and McDonalds, good old monarchs and the pomp and circumstance that follows them are more important than ever before just to provide some sort of feeling that the world is still a diverse place to be in!
@ohnoshedidntw8 I've already been thinking about the perfect answer to craigbhill's comment -I think I couldn't have commented better ohnoshedidntw8 :)) great answer!
@ohnoshedidntw8 aw... you live in Sweden? That is so great ! I love Sweden so much, everything about it:) I'm actually learning Swedish since one year:) and I'll visit Sweden again in August :))
@ohnoshedidntw8 Modern constitutional monarchs are Heads of States with important functions to fill, diplomatic missions, and representational functions in foreign lands where they have more of a psychological attraction than a figurehead president (cfr Italy and Germany) who are old politicians of some party. The monarchs are non-political, so are much more popular than politicians, who often stink after a short time. Monarchs maintain a historical and cultural contact with the People.
@craigbhill As a citizen of the US, I apologize for this ignoramus who knows nothing of monarchy, and probably little enough of our own history and government.. The US has no monopoly on ignoramuses, but with a large population stuck in their own little limited lives, they bark like dogs on street corners. As one who knows very well of Austrian history and the Habsburgs, I honor this dedicated apostle of European unity in democracy and a noble Christian. Er ja war Mensch ! Gott erhalte...
@FRAGIORGIO1 (Sigh) Too bad you know so much, oh titanic blowhard, and yet do not know how to read. As for a knowledge of history, by your own words it is obvious yours is that of the superficially dogmatic, "noble Christian" indeed.
@craigbhill What ignorance, Craig. There was no "one man rule" in 1914. Franz Josef had a parliament and government with different parties. It was the government that decided on war with Serbia, and I read that the emperor was persuaded against his own instincts to sign the declaration. Jeez, guy, read some real history! You're just ranting without any real reference. "Nationalism" in the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy? LOL It was a multi ethnic entity!! Read!
@craigbhill Read your own words, simpletonian ranter, and maybe you'll see that you certainly imply a return to a past which is Your imagination. You did not comment on "venerating the wealthy". You bleated on about "one family reign of 'nobles' ". For your information out there in the Ozarks, nobles do not reign: Royals do. Read YOUR OWN WORDs and maybe you'll stop "bleeping". And STUDY some history! Thanks for the French. Let's try Italian: "Va fa'n..." etc.
Dear bleeping idiot: I was not commenting on the past. I never intimated (that means "hinted at") i was commenting on the past.
I was commenting on the current trend to veneration of the wealthy, of nobility, des nouveaux riche, the concentration of a hard core of powermongering. From your dribbles, it is easy to see that's what you, and the rest of your buds herein, do. Period end.
@craigbhill . If you are talking about how IN THE US people who are Neither royal nor nobles, yet are "Robber Barons" of Wall Street and Industry and are ripping off the shareholders, lesser execs, and workers, as well as THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT, then we could very well agree. Europe has not the Inordinate greed and groveling to corporate power that we have in the US. Unfortunately, we have neither a Republican Teddy Roosevelt nor a Democratic Franklin D.Roosevelt to bash heads!
@FRAGIORGIO1 You are blind and dumb to what intenational bankers are doing throughout Europe to Europeans, while the well-heeled and self-professed nobility there and their fascist cousins here sail along obliviously, tending to the trappings of wealth and power.
And that IS history, bud, too much of it, as if it never stopped.
@craigbhill "Self-professed nobility"?? You just prattle on without knowing what you're talking about. Did you just graduate from "Generics 101". What "IS history"? You rattle and prattle. Who and what are you talking about in Concrete? The Krupps, Gianni Agnelli, who are not nobles, but quite wealthy? Which "nobles'" are you talking about? Duke X? PrinceY? Count Z? Names!!
I noticed the service was in a Masonic temple from the facade.

@FRAGIORGIO1 You bleeping IDIOT you STILL don't know how to read.
I was not commenting on the past. I never intimated i was commenting on the past.
YOU created the boneheaded idea i was commenting on the past.
Now, read carefully this time:
I was commenting on the trend, CURRENTLY, in venerating the wealthy, which has LED to a hard concentrated core of fat pigs running everything.
Got it, finally? Now how hard was that??
Now let's try some French: Va t'en.
