Great vid & song man... I know you tell yourself it's okay in winter, but seeing the sun rise 2 degrees above the horizon for months on end can't be okay. I don't know how you all do it! On a brighter note, happy summer solstice!!!
Grats on making a useless video about driving around in this dump. The people here make me road rage. It's like their all downies driving around or something.
I was born and raised in Fairbanks, moved to Cali 2 years ago. I'm 25 now. This brought back all sorts of memories! Thanks for this. Looks like you did a big loop along all the main drags. Airport Way, University Ave, Johansen Expy, and back to the Steese and finally onto Ft. Wainwright. A part of me misses the people, but I could never live in that dark, cold, desolate city again! Cali Sunshine from here on out lol.
Hope to move there in a few years :) If I can find a culinary job that pays enough to live in the city that is. Will be beginning culinary school soon and it will last for 2 years. After that I will be job hunting for cook positions. Reason to move there is because I love to see the Aurora and I love the silver landscape of snow out in that area. Live down in south Texas so never got to experience snow in my life :(
@rgomez246 You've never experienced snow in your life and you want to move to Fairbanks? No disrespect or anything, it's just that I'm from Chicago and I don't even know if I could take the -60s it can get to (but I'd like to imagine I could); but good luck if you're gonna go for it, and maybe I'll join you there one day, because Fairbanks looks just plain awesome.
@RianAlive I actually worked with CessnaCruzer a while back. When I got to the Fairbanks/North Star burrough, I had never experienced anything colder than 0 degrees Fahrenheit due to being a Texan that traveled a little. When I got there, it was -40. I was ill-prepared, but this summer back in Texas, I was thinking, "Man, I'd rather deal with the sun right now than this B.S. heat."
@Spridium1Jono Yes they do and thats what cause accidents in ak best recommendation is drive 10 to 20 miles below the speed limit in the winter. If youve been here more than a year then you know what im talking about.
They have some high technology to live In Alaska even In North Dakota most places everything shuts down at 20 F degrees with frozen Water line cars that will Not start frost bit fingers & everything but even at below zero temperatures People In Alaska & North Dakota show up for work & Swanson Vitamins keeps sending out the orders
you are totally on base in the begining of this video. aaaah i just moved away from fairbanks like 4months ago and its where i was born and raised. i miss it soooo much and watching this video made me feel like i was at home. you did a really good job
love the video. made me think of when i lived there. god i miss that place. now i live in pennsylvania. should have never left. my dads in the airforce. ive been out of alaska for 8 years and on my own. ive lived in three states and none compare to alaska. cant wait to get back there sooner or later. alaska is great and most people are bad ass up there
Thanks for sharing this! My husband was stationed at Ft. Wainwright almost 5 years ago. We kinda miss Fairbanks! It was neat to see some of the roads and buildings again.
@franthree only if you don't have any friends lol. They make all the difference in a place like that. I had just gotten married to my guy when I went up there to be with him, and everything was "whimsical" anyway lol. I also met a lot of awesome women, had fun parties, fun get togethers. Made AK a whole new experience, from say, someone who is depressed and hates life. Loved the auroras, I'd live there again just to see them again. I like smaller communities anyway, I'm sick of big cities.
I'm thinking of taking a road trip to Alaska from Jersey (One long drive, 3 days), but hows the weather in Alaska during the summer? Will it still snow?
awesome video. like how everything looked when you sped things up. question: how often does the Aurora occur and wheres the best place to see it when it happens? im planning on moving up to Alaska after high-school (which i got 2 more years of! lol) and wouldn't mind living in an area where i can see it closley on the nights it happens.
@Ominix201 the aurora happens every night just depends if you can see it cause of the weather and lights from the city, the best place to see it is anywhere just out of the city limits or where the city lights are blocked out. some nights are more prominent than others so just keep a look out when your out and you might see some of the bigger more colorful ones.
@cessnacruzer sweet, thanks for the advice. i figured i'd have to be outside of city limits to see them, and every night? wow. now im really stoked about moving up to Alaska. it's gonna be tough getting up there though i bet.. i heard Norway is in the Aurora zone.
@Ominix201 You have to be hella far north. Even Fairbanks isn't a sure bet for it, and Fairbanks is a city so there's lights and stuff that effect the night sky.
Good Song! Good Video!, the way you put this vid together made it all a feel good video, of course i love snow, so i'm totally in the wrong state considering i live in southern missouri, we are lucky to see 2 half assed snows a year, when i was a kid i lived in the adirondack mountains of upstate New York we got snow for roughly 4 to 5 months out of the year, big climate, and culture change, now i'm a tornado chaser for the NWS strange indeed :) Excellent Job Cessnacruzer! :)
This video reminds me of why I would like to live in Fairbanks, Alaska someday. ^_^ Such a wonderful city, and the best part is that winter lasts from mid-October through mid to late April (sometimes starting as early as late September and sometimes lasting into May or early June). Every month from November through April has a record low of at least -40 and only June, July, August, and September have never seen subzero tempratures. As you can tell, I am definitely a fan of the cold weather. ^_^
That wouldn't make sense to have where you stop because then you wouldn't be able to see them... I'm guessing you're not american cause that's how all street lights are that I've seen.
@dsblu10 if he wasn't american he wouldn't be driving from and back to fort wainwright...and yes i can tell where he pulled out and parked back in because that parking lot was where my office used to be when i used to work there
This guy is a soldier on Ft. Wainwright. He edited out the part where he went throught the gate that Airport Way runs you into. He took a nice little cruise but I would of gotten a Carls Jr. Burger instead.
Question to the author: I'm more than likely going to be moving up there soon. How difficult does the going get in city for driving conditions? And should I worry about having only a 2-wheel drive? Thanks - DB

omg, watching the made me cringe even though I knew you weren't going that fast I felt like gasping everytime you came up to a stop light or stop sign, like AHHHH SLOW DOWN!!
I was confused at first, then realized you started out in Fort Wainwright.
