Hendrix always gave credits to others, as he did with the unforgetable Greek Manolis Hiotis. When he was asked the same question, he answered:"you probably haven't seen Hiotis playing"
All the 3 of them were amazing players, but now they are jamming in Heaven' s Band, along with SRV, Gary Moore, Randy Rhodes and...oh God, they' re so many...
@joethepainter90 Legend ! Jimi was already gone when Rory exploded ! The one and only concert where they both played (but not together) was Isle of Wight, Aug 31st, 1970, but Rory was not well known at this time. Thus said, I love as much Rory as Jimi, but comparing them is like comparing oranges and wildcats...
Hi matey. This song is by Bill Big Broonzy and I've tried finding some tabs for you but not much luck :( Maybe if you check out some blues sites, you could find it :) Good luck to you.
music isn't a contest. it's an expression of what's inside the man. if you all can't see that, and love it for what it is, go and watch american fucking idol and shut up
Very true. Couldn't agree more... but just for the record when Hendrix was asked how it feels to be the greatest guitarist in the world, he looked up and simply said, " Go ask Rory Gallagher."
Can anybody tell me if Rory ever recorded this song for an album? If he did so... which album is it?? Rory was an amazing guitar player and singer, but this song here... wow! Rory at his best!!
"SRV is the best! No way, Jimi is the best! Shut the fuck up, Clapton is God! Then Rory is better than God!" LOL I always laugh when I see comments like these. They're all the best because every one of them invented something new and beautiful. Musicians don't argue who's the best, they just play and injoy in what they do. But again I'm glad to see someone arguing over Stevie or Rory than Madona nad her tits. Because today, showing titts and asses is music, no tits no glory.
In the 70's, Rory used to vist my town with great frequency, So much so, that we stopped going to see him because as schoolkids we could not afford the 70p (14 shillings in those days) to see him.
I would willingly pay £100 to see him now. He was fabulous. passion, craft, feeling. Very small feet in plimsoles right in front of my face on the stage edge.
Hahaha.... Read again my comment mate. I never slamed on Rory. As a matter of a fact, I never talked shit about him. I wouldn't be here in the first place if I weren't a fan of his work. All I said that Stevie and Jimi are better.
u did slam him by saying to other sare better. its rude amongst other rory fans that could give about that. everyones entitled to an opinion yes but on here its not need as musictheropist said "it's music and not a fucking competition"
Yes it's standard but when he picks the gtr up it's in DADGAD (I think he must have just finishd playing Out on the Western Plain) at the start. Perhaps hence yr initial confusion.
£4000? that's nuts. Some how I don't think Rory would like that. I have a feeling he might think it a rip off by a great guitar company who lost it's way and forgot about the average man on the street, after all, blues players aren't exactly known for their deep pockets.

What an outstanding musician. It amazes me how a guy can get that good at that young of age. Rory was born with a gift that few others in this world possess. I have only recentley discoverd his talents through YouTube and you can add another fan to his club...........!
for irish passion and charm and being just such an idol someone i'd be happy for my kids to look up to i think i like him most out of any blues guitarist.
what a legend, never wanted to much fame, and turned down to become part of the stones just so he could play what he wanted to play. deserves so much more recognition
their bass player played with Gallagher Jimmy Page knew him too they met in a office and spent a hour talking Rory knows the the great guitar players and singers.
who cares whos better[rory is!] this is feckin awesome. im goin to his hometown for da rory gallagher festival.see a few bands and have way way way too much alcohol on june bank holiday weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!
can anyone playing that song good can put a video lesson on youtube a share the teaching with us? Rory is a master in piece for us (young) guitarists and bankers blues is one just great song. Rory lives through our notes.
The only unfortunate feeling I get from watching this great man, is that, other than missing him, I have seen no one at least try to fill the void. His style, his emotion, his love for the blues seems to have passed on along with him. I long for the day that some young musician will walk out and say to the audience, "Heres a little something by a bluesman by the name of Rory, I hope ya like it".
Joe Bonamassa plays Cradle Rock, he's a huge fan of Rory. I'm hoping he'll play Walk on Hot Coals one day, my favourite; and Joe could do it justice I reckon.
Just enjoy the music and stop comparing people. If you had a chance to talk Rory before he passed away, would you say "You are better than Clapton" to him? No, because he would think less of you for making music into a competition. Music is the voice of the human spirit, not a sport, so naturally there will be varying styles for each spirit or soul.
Well fff, u have a big mouth with very stupid words coming out of it. In his way Clapton is fantastic and technically spoken for sure he is better than Rory, but for sure Rory has more blues in his guitarplay. But none of the two is the better one. They both are in an area where you can not talk about the one being better than the other, like for example also Jimi Hendrix, Alvin Lee, SRV and Jan Akkerman are.
the tab of this other version of bankers blues: youtube*com/watch?v=z4CX03DlqDQ is now available on: ultimate- guitar*com/tabs/r/rory_gallagher/bankers_blues_tab*htm
I put him up or beyond, dare I say, Clapton, Stevie Ray, etc.. I remember watching him as a kid on Don Kirschners Rock Concert and am only now rediscovering him and his mastery. What a player, and from what I've heard , what a great human being as well. Rory, your music lives .. Right on brother.
My sister was friendly with the great man himself and I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions after his Ulster Hall concerts Belfast and he was a total gentleman, softly spoken and very modest. What memories.
i hate to sound shallow, and i do know my guitar. how can an irish man play such incredible blues that would do stateside delta players proud? yes, i love to listen to the power of a les paul in gary moore's hands, and phil was a great bassist. rory is in a completely different class.
Watching and listening to this, it's sad to compare with the musical scene nowadays, full of pre-marketed/incompetent, mainstream "rock musicians". Fortunately, these turds will always and sequentially be forgotten, while real musicians like Rory, will be always remembered. Thanks for your music, man.
Very nice, hadn't seen this before. Not too sure about all this who's the best player stuff. Music isn't like sports, you can't measure it. But, if you like this, how about James Blood Ulmer and his recent blues albums. Check him out, he's been around for a long time.
RIP Rory, greatness is a tough road to walk, but you have certainly reached the gold at the end of the road :)
Robert Johnson is the King of the Delta Blues guitar, with the slide, but in fingerstyle playing (Like Rory plays), Mississippi John Hurt is the best :)
LOL, like that has anything to do with it . . . I am not denying he is great, he could very well be the best white bluesman though he get stiff competition from Clapton and Green, but he is in no way the best blues guitarist
Hi I think its not that Rory could be considered the best or needed to be. On an international scale he rates in the top ten at least. But what was special about Rory was unlike Clapton who was technically brilliant and Hendrix who gave us fire works and don't forget Roy Buchanan Robin Trower and the other blues rockers. Rory lived his music as he is so well revered for Read shot Gun by his Bass player Gerry Mc Avoy that'll fill you in on the man. Happy Xmas all
man, they all lived their music just in different ways . . . Clapton had the Blues or do you think that rehab was a walk in the park? Hendrix was manic =-depressive, Roy Buchanan ended up commiting suicide after being arrested for a domestic brawl involving members of his family, etc. they all lived it
yeah, but don't take my word for the whole Roy Buchanan thing, I just read that somewhere, o no wait I remember it was in a photo book that Jim Marshall put together
Jimi Hendrix was once asked "how does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world"
He answered"I don't know ask Rory Gallagher".Enough said!

Rory was phenomenal. I was lucky enough to see him live in 1983, opening for Rush. A man that died young which much music left in him.
