  • Jimi Hendrix was once asked "how does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world"

He answered"I don't know ask Rory Gallagher".Enough said!

  • @joethepainter90

Hendrix always gave credits to others, as he did with the unforgetable Greek Manolis Hiotis. When he was asked the same question, he answered:"you probably haven't seen Hiotis playing"

All the 3 of them were amazing players, but now they are jamming in Heaven' s Band, along with SRV, Gary Moore, Randy Rhodes and...oh God, they' re so many...

  • @joethepainter90 Legend ! Jimi was already gone when Rory exploded ! The one and only concert where they both played (but not together) was Isle of Wight, Aug 31st, 1970, but Rory was not well known at this time. Thus said, I love as much Rory as Jimi, but comparing them is like comparing oranges and wildcats...

  • The best guitarist I have ver seen; RIP Rory

  • this is brilliance

  • What a Legend. They dont make them like that any more. God cracked the mold made of solid gold after he created Rory.

  • @Punorss

"God cracked the mold made of solid gold after he created Rory." I agree with a billion per cent !!!

  • one and only!

  • Awesome, the only guitarist that could approach Big Bill's warmth and style.

  • OMG he plays so good !!! And the lyrics are so true ;-)

  • R.I.P. - Mr. Gallagher

  • Excellent blues song by a GREAT guitarist.

  • he's the man seen him in 87 amazing 3hrs no support band, ..... didn't need it!!!

  • the absolute best in technical and artistic style.....throw in his humility and class and he has no equal.

  • @retroperitoneal You just summed it up perfectly. Have a great weekend my friend. scratch that..... Have a great Life

  • A gentleman and an alien on guitar !!!!!!

  • too bad alcohol ruined his life...

  • poor comment mate.

  • yes. he's my one of my favourite guitarist but i was one year old when he died,so i will never see him live...

  • ya its a shame...such great talent gone to waste,,

  • or made it better

  • does any one where you could get harmonica tabs for this song

  • Hi matey. This song is by Bill Big Broonzy and I've tried finding some tabs for you but not much luck :( Maybe if you check out some blues sites, you could find it :) Good luck to you.

  • aw thanks hey

il try if i do i tell you

  • hey man its me the one on about harmonica tabs for this song

and i wondering could you tell me any songs or solos that would be good to learn for a beginner but i want hard enough ones

  • try guitar pro

  • couldn't love the man and his music any more than i already do-here's to him!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • it looks like princess leah in the audience

  • How So True ...

    F(*&in B"$&(_

  • La meilleure version de banker's blues par Rory, à mes yeux. ça donne envie de savoir jouer de la guitare.

  • music isn't a contest. it's an expression of what's inside the man. if you all can't see that, and love it for what it is, go and watch american fucking idol and shut up

  • ...couldnt have put it any better myself

  • Very true. Couldn't agree more... but just for the record when Hendrix was asked how it feels to be the greatest guitarist in the world, he looked up and simply said, " Go ask Rory Gallagher."

  • @00poet well said

  • As regards the Rory vs SRV thing: Just check out alternate vids on YouTube by them. After, say, 4 of each it really isn't a contest is it . . . . . ?

    Rory was the man . . . .. .

  • they're different, and both brilliant

  • Can anybody tell me if Rory ever recorded this song for an album? If he did so... which album is it?? Rory was an amazing guitar player and singer, but this song here... wow! Rory at his best!!

  • It's on Blueprint from 1973....

  • Bankers Blues was originally on his album Blueprint; also included here was Walk on Hot Coals, one of his best efforts.

  • "SRV is the best! No way, Jimi is the best! Shut the fuck up, Clapton is God! Then Rory is better than God!" LOL I always laugh when I see comments like these. They're all the best because every one of them invented something new and beautiful. Musicians don't argue who's the best, they just play and injoy in what they do. But again I'm glad to see someone arguing over Stevie or Rory than Madona nad her tits. Because today, showing titts and asses is music, no tits no glory.

  • awesome!!

  • nice

    Thanks for uploading :)

  • they are all great and who are you to say whos better. rory had more heart tho

  • In the 70's, Rory used to vist my town with great frequency, So much so, that we stopped going to see him because as schoolkids we could not afford the 70p (14 shillings in those days) to see him.

I would willingly pay £100 to see him now. He was fabulous. passion, craft, feeling. Very small feet in plimsoles right in front of my face on the stage edge.

Rock on Rory wherever you are..

  • What a well thought out argument. I'm convinced.

  • why "unfortunately"?

seems important to you to judge who is better. i myself can't really decide who is better often they seem to me on the same level

  • it's music and not a fucking competition

  • why are you watchin rory and then slam him? if u think stevie and jimi are better listen to them instead of going to other musicians and slaming them

  • Hahaha.... Read again my comment mate. I never slamed on Rory. As a matter of a fact, I never talked shit about him. I wouldn't be here in the first place if I weren't a fan of his work. All I said that Stevie and Jimi are better.

    Get it now?

  • u did slam him by saying to other sare better. its rude amongst other rory fans that could give about that. everyones entitled to an opinion yes but on here its not need as musictheropist said "it's music and not a fucking competition"

  • And your still wrong.

  • oh yea i prefer rory over clapton anyday. rory has more power and emotion i'd say. but clapton still is great don't get me wrong

  • The great Rory Gallagher, pure genius. RIP

    5*

    Robin :o)

  • ok jb640812 but it's rory who's play !!!

  • For this Song, the guitar is in STANDARD tuning. The song is in A major.

He is retuning the guitar before playing this song, because the previous one was in open D tuning.

  • Can anybody help me with the tuning for this?

trying to figure it out by ear but I'm losing patience lol

  • Yes it's standard but when he picks the gtr up it's in DADGAD (I think he must have just finishd playing Out on the Western Plain) at the start. Perhaps hence yr initial confusion.

  • I see I see! Trying to figure this one out without the tab - proving tricky enough but I'm gettin there!

  • how does he tunes is guitar

  • what you mean? he turns the tuning pegs...

  • I'm such a fool! I been tryin to figure out this tuning for most of an hour, turns out its Standard!! At least I think so...

  • I saw him in the Carlton cinema in Dublin in the seventies. What a genius. We all miss ya Rory.

  • That's just great! God bless ya, Rory.

  • Looks like he's playing a Hohner Special 20 harp there to me. Anyone think the same? And a Martin HD28.

  • It's a Martin D35. They've just brought out a 'limited edition Rory Gallagher replica' for a mere £4000!! Wonder how much Rory paid for his?

  • £4000? that's nuts. Some how I don't think Rory would like that. I have a feeling he might think it a rip off by a great guitar company who lost it's way and forgot about the average man on the street, after all, blues players aren't exactly known for their deep pockets.

  • Agreed.

  • cream's bass

  • The festival is almost upon us,,, exams too but ill try me best to get the ballyshannon, the car full of a crate an the sleeping bag,,,

    Crest of a wave.

  • Rory was born with a guitar hanging from his neck.He was practicing in his mothers womb, that's why he played so good at this age!

    That was the Great Irishman

  • What an outstanding musician. It amazes me how a guy can get that good at that young of age. Rory was born with a gift that few others in this world possess. I have only recentley discoverd his talents through YouTube and you can add another fan to his club...........!

  • Yeah, he was top drawer.....

  • for irish passion and charm and being just such an idol someone i'd be happy for my kids to look up to i think i like him most out of any blues guitarist.

  • what a legend, never wanted to much fame, and turned down to become part of the stones just so he could play what he wanted to play. deserves so much more recognition

  • Actually Clapton said that Rory was the man who got him back into the blues!!! They are both insanely cool!!!!!!!!

  • their bass player played with Gallagher Jimmy Page knew him too they met in a office and spent a hour talking Rory knows the the great guitar players and singers.

  • who cares whos better[rory is!] this is feckin awesome. im goin to his hometown for da rory gallagher festival.see a few bands and have way way way too much alcohol on june bank holiday weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rory beats Clapton me thinks

    so good.

  • Rory beats Clapton me thinks

    so good.

  • can anyone playing that song good can put a video lesson on youtube a share the teaching with us? Rory is a master in piece for us (young) guitarists and bankers blues is one just great song. Rory lives through our notes.

  • musta seen rory minimum 20 times ... fekkin awesome. cant say much more 'n that ( rip )

  • He blows the ass off clapton, Rory was a genious....Clapton has his place no doubt...but he's a boring player now

  • he is not clapton but he did not get the respect

  • rorys dead rite yous guys but stil one of thegreats

  • I wish I could have seen him play. One of the greatest and most underrated guitarists of all time!!

  • meant to say great song

  • yeah, pretty damn skillfuled

  • unreal. so much talent it is unbelivable. great son also pretty funny

  • i like the way he was and still is underestimated he didnt really care about fame

  • SOOOO GOOOD rory i love you é_è

  • Wow and a beautiful harmonica player was he.

  • jeeezzz great song! great artist!

  • Well said CyclingStarlists, summed up my thoughts perfectly too

  • thats in normal tuning bfitzpatcrick1.........

  • I love trhe bluessssss

  • what tuning he using?

  • sounds like open A

  • standard tuning

  • You are so right. Don't bitch about who you think is a better guitarist. It's just stupid and shallow minded.

Rest in piece Rory. We miss you and your music will never be forgotten. You still inspire me to this day!

  • The only unfortunate feeling I get from watching this great man, is that, other than missing him, I have seen no one at least try to fill the void. His style, his emotion, his love for the blues seems to have passed on along with him. I long for the day that some young musician will walk out and say to the audience, "Heres a little something by a bluesman by the name of Rory, I hope ya like it".

  • Joe Bonamassa plays Cradle Rock, he's a huge fan of Rory. I'm hoping he'll play Walk on Hot Coals one day, my favourite; and Joe could do it justice I reckon.

  • Being the guy Rory was,he wouldn't like people to say he was better than Clapton, but,he was!!! thanks NCOpagn, this is magic. 5*

  • R.I.P BIG MAN

  • Just enjoy the music and stop comparing people. If you had a chance to talk Rory before he passed away, would you say "You are better than Clapton" to him? No, because he would think less of you for making music into a competition. Music is the voice of the human spirit, not a sport, so naturally there will be varying styles for each spirit or soul.

  • I wish this posting could be on every music site. It's art not gun fighting.

  • good point mate

  • blasfemia, shut up you bollocks he was ten times better than clapton

  • Well fff, u have a big mouth with very stupid words coming out of it. In his way Clapton is fantastic and technically spoken for sure he is better than Rory, but for sure Rory has more blues in his guitarplay. But none of the two is the better one. They both are in an area where you can not talk about the one being better than the other, like for example also Jimi Hendrix, Alvin Lee, SRV and Jan Akkerman are.

  • ditto

  • ditto

  • He was better than Clapton!

  • they both were damn good

  • he still is...

  • the tab of this other version of bankers blues: youtube*com/watch?v=z4CX03DlqDQ is now available on: ultimate- guitar*com/tabs/r/rory_gallagher/bankers_blues_tab*htm

    (replace the * for .)

  • I put him up or beyond, dare I say, Clapton, Stevie Ray, etc.. I remember watching him as a kid on Don Kirschners Rock Concert and am only now rediscovering him and his mastery. What a player, and from what I've heard , what a great human being as well. Rory, your music lives .. Right on brother.

  • I don't have to say nothin do I ?

  • my religion... God himself!

  • qué pedazo de músico!

  • He got the key to the highway!

  • have you ever!

  • Is it just me or does Rory come across as one of the nicest human beings ever to have lived?! Great video. Thanks!

  • My sister was friendly with the great man himself and I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions after his Ulster Hall concerts Belfast and he was a total gentleman, softly spoken and very modest. What memories.

  • does anybody have 'wheels within wheels'?pls!!!!!;;)

  • Awesome.....

  • it's a bit the same of " wave myself goodbye" in first album of rory.

  • was this 1977?

  • He tunes right at the start you idiot... just tune as he does, or better yet just figure it out yourself.

    Awesome some, thanks yet again!

  • just what i needed, ty

  • if you had to upload again thanks mate, does anyone know what tuning its in or even better how to play intro

  • Yes yes, re-upload please! It does not work for me either

  • no why wont this video work anymore?

  • I don't know, but if it stays this way I will upload it again.

  • I'll never forget seeing Rory in concert in LA, CA in the early 70's. He was one rare individual. Rest In Peace

  • one of my all time favorite musicians

  • Wow. Why did good music die again? :/

And, did anyone notice that Rory talks the same way inbetween songs Robert Plant does? ^^

  • I've watched this video so many times. Rory is a great musician.

  • i like that line. I once had money and a fast cadillac car and made a big mistake. Cuz I let my baby know where they are.

  • i hate to sound shallow, and i do know my guitar. how can an irish man play such incredible blues that would do stateside delta players proud? yes, i love to listen to the power of a les paul in gary moore's hands, and phil was a great bassist. rory is in a completely different class.

  • Correct man!!

  • Watching and listening to this, it's sad to compare with the musical scene nowadays, full of pre-marketed/incompetent, mainstream "rock musicians". Fortunately, these turds will always and sequentially be forgotten, while real musicians like Rory, will be always remembered. Thanks for your music, man.

  • Well lets just say they're all very good.

  • Very nice, hadn't seen this before. Not too sure about all this who's the best player stuff. Music isn't like sports, you can't measure it. But, if you like this, how about James Blood Ulmer and his recent blues albums. Check him out, he's been around for a long time.

    Cheers, and peace.

  • RIP Rory, greatness is a tough road to walk, but you have certainly reached the gold at the end of the road :)

Robert Johnson is the King of the Delta Blues guitar, with the slide, but in fingerstyle playing (Like Rory plays), Mississippi John Hurt is the best :)

Thanks for the upload, top rating :)

  • w00t i got rating number 70. anyways, this is defenetally amoung my favorite rory vids, if not # 1

  • Anyone upload 'Cradle Rock'?

  • hell yeah!

  • Shit, Rory Gallagher is the best blues guitarist of all time. Not even a close second!

  • ignorance

  • Idiot. Moron. Adolescent mook.

  • w/e . . . I'm just saying, saying Rory Gallagher is the best blues guitarist ever is just ignorant

  • No, denying his greatness is what is igrnorant. You're forgiven however since you were in the 3rd grade when Rory died.

  • LOL, like that has anything to do with it . . . I am not denying he is great, he could very well be the best white bluesman though he get stiff competition from Clapton and Green, but he is in no way the best blues guitarist

  • Hi I think its not that Rory could be considered the best or needed to be. On an international scale he rates in the top ten at least. But what was special about Rory was unlike Clapton who was technically brilliant and Hendrix who gave us fire works and don't forget Roy Buchanan Robin Trower and the other blues rockers. Rory lived his music as he is so well revered for Read shot Gun by his Bass player Gerry Mc Avoy that'll fill you in on the man. Happy Xmas all

  • man, they all lived their music just in different ways . . . Clapton had the Blues or do you think that rehab was a walk in the park? Hendrix was manic =-depressive, Roy Buchanan ended up commiting suicide after being arrested for a domestic brawl involving members of his family, etc. they all lived it

  • Wow didn't know that about Buchanan yeah they really took it on board didn't they still its good listening and we're more the thankful for it

  • yeah, but don't take my word for the whole Roy Buchanan thing, I just read that somewhere, o no wait I remember it was in a photo book that Jim Marshall put together

  • Thanks so much for this....check out the Montreaux dvd set...sensational

  • Ballsy blues man. Fantastic !

  • Rory...I miss you...

  • rory is the greatest thank for the look at him

  • if someone has a Going to my Hometown from this night ( 14 february 1977 , right ? ) , please oh please upload it ... thanks .

  • Rory was phenomenal. I was lucky enough to see him live in 1983, opening for Rush. A man that died young which much music left in him.

  • Ahhh!! I remember you :D

    Hows it going man?

    I hope all is well.

  • That is played at the same time as the one in my profile :)

    Great video. Rory was amazing!!

  • Yeah he shure was/is the best.

But you are aka A millon miles away aren't you?

  • Rory was 1 in a million that is for sure

Yeah im a millon miles away haha :D How did you know? Are you on the meeting place?

  • Yep, but I haven't posted in a while.

    I'm Bratacha Dubha remember?
