  • I recorded this off the TV way back when, but tape inevitably snapped at some point. I'd love to see the whole thing again, has it EVER been released commercially...?

  • superb version - remember watching this years ago when l just moved up to manchester, so good to see it again. 'songs from the catherine wheel' is one great album.

  • Still have the Channel4 programme on VHS. Talking Heads were/are superb. This version is so much better than the one on Catherine Wheel.

  • Thanks connected365 for all of these Wembley uploads! I never knew the Heads played this song, only knew the DB version. This one is much better, frankly, love the drums!

  • This is from the Catherine Wheel (DB) and the "Talking Heads" are not part of this album. You should rename the title.

  • @QuantumReality777 It is being performed by Talking Heads at Wembley in 1982, hence the title.

  • Had the video of this taped from the channel 4 programme. Must have watched it about 20 times - love the part where david byrne explains that preachers are entainers just before this song - hence the religous scenes. Thanks for posting man.

  • Funny how my fav TH's song changes from year to year. At the moment it's probably this one.. Or Crosseyed.. Or I Zimbra... Or maybe Sax and Violins.. Or Heaven.. Or What a Day That Was.. Or.. They were brilliant. They still are. There´s no band that contributed as much to the music world as they did. Anyone who disagrees doesn´t understand music.

  • Scene from the Obama Bar Mitzvah.

  • Strange how half the songs from this documentary were from David Byrnes "Catherine Wheel".

  • This song rocks and thunders along... Nona Hendryx looks caught up in the beat. Love how the lyrics and images mix up voodoo, evangelism and mental illness!

  • totally agreed but it's dolette mcdonald

  • *Facepalm*

  • i like how she looks in this video. ironically it's one of the only ones she's in where she's hardly singing haha.

  • @connected365 lolololol

  • Saw them doing this at Radio City Music Hall, NYC. Adrian Belew was smokin'. The staff there were having a fit because nobody would sit in their seats and were dancing freely in the aisles. What a show! Saw the Catherine Wheel too... 5 times. Byrne is WAY beyond creative!

  • the staff was having fits with me a few months ago for Ratdog. after voicing my displeasure with the manager for quite a few minutes, the next 2 nights the staff chilled out considerably, until the 2nd set on the last night when some usher started fucking with me. i would not move whatsoever and told him to go get the manager (cant remember his name) but at the time, i said go get "so and so" and i never saw him again. i know he desribed me to the manager and im sure he said dont f w/ that guy

  • LOL! They're soooo uptight. Glad to hear you got a voice in & got your money's worth of freedom. Saw TH @ Forest hills Tennis Stadium ~ much more relaxed. That was when Tom Tom Club did a set. Those TH days were some of the best. The music was fresh & freeing...

Really like Ratdog... try out MoonAlice.

    Peace!

  • wow. I've never heard this before. that was typical byrne awesomeness.

  • This is a very interesting documentary. This was the first time I ever heard "Big Blue Plymouth (Eyes Wide Open). I know it's a David Byrne song originally composed without the band. The video montage is very interesting. I wonder if D. Byrne or the band had any production imput. This and "Big Business" makes me keen to find a digitial copy to watch in whole. Never nice discovery indeed!

  • Although the Stop Making Sense film shows the band's artistry on stage, this documentary shows how creative the band was with media. For instance, in "My Big Hands," as the music gets heavier, a lit image of the word "sin" appears, then turning into "casino" as the camera zooms out. And there are the constant references to the culture of southern evangelical religion in songs like "Big Blue Plymouth" and "Mind." So bizarre. If you find a copy of the film, let me know.

  • I am 1000% sure David had input. He is a control freak. The dancing clips are typical of his work if anything is typical of his work. He is in to dance stuff. He did a the whole score for The Catherine While dance project. He also made a whole movie about dance in another country but I can't recall what it was called.

  • Im pretty sure Bryne does film and photography a litte. I saw him randomly in a photography documentary on TVO one time

  • This is so well done... I would love to have seen them live. Thanks.

  • that chick at 02:22 is fucking hot as you like!

  • Who is she?

  • @aliensatemybrain that's french porn star brigitte lahaie. look her up, you won't be disappointed.

  • Talking Heads at their peak both vocaly and creatively. Notice how the collage is now the norm, but all those years ago it was mind blowing/bending!!

  • HOW/ WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THESE VIDEOS??

THE MORE I LISTEN TO LIVE TH's THE MORE A SHAKE & TWITCH FOR MORE!!!!!!

  • Magic!

  • my fave Heads track.Remember watching this show on TV

all those years ago.Thanx for reminding me how brilliantly this was put together

  • Agreed. My favourite track also :-)

  • This is not a Talking Heads song even though they used to play it live, it's David with some help from Eno in his solo soundtrack to The Catherine Wheel dance ensemble choreographed by T. Tharpe.

  • and what a great album that is. i think that byrne is just a genius.

  • And what an album THAT was!

  • wembley 82 london

  • If I remember correctly there was a film of a play/performance of the album The Catherine Wheel. It was shown on PBS television I believe in the mid/late 1980's.

  • "the catherine wheel" is an underrated album.

    i still listen to it

oh, "my life in a bush of ghosts", fantastic

  • that is a brilliant album, good to see a mention of it here..

this a really good find too..

  • Loved in the 80s with a beer. Love it now in the small city... with a beer

  • genius + populism = talking heads

  • Man... I wish someone would dig up the raw concert footage and release it without all the extraneous footage cut into it.

  • you got that right

  • yeah me too

  • how did this one pass me by? love it

  • great tune from "the catherine wheel" - never heard it live and the footage is awesome

  • this was always one of my favourites :-)

  • David Byrne is a weird combination of rock star and Franz Kafka.
