This reminds me of my aunt who was the aunt Esther church type. She didn't want to hear no night club singer like Aretha singing bout the Lord. But when my mom put this song on my aunt got this transfixed look like she did when she was about to shout. She was a rough shouter. She would often get happy and snatch a record off the player and snap it into.. When Aretha sang those my mys my aunt got happy and was headed for the record. Mom told me to tackle that heifer that record cost $12.00.

OMG... I had no idea that she was this sick! She was so very private about her personal life and the surgery she had a few months back, that when I saw her a few days ago, I was deeply shocked. I had hoped that she didn't have some kind of procedure to make her lose weight. I had never heard of any of Aretha's music until I heard this album in 1983. I was 12. I was born the year this album came out. I knew that she was the dubbed the "Queen of Soul" from reading the Ebony Black History Books(a four volume set brown and gold ...any y'all black folk remember those). I saw her and James Brown's pics with blurb captions about them. That's how also found out about Jackson 5.

What you talking about? There is nothing wrong with stating we should all support the Queen of Soul by continuing to purchase her CD's. I stand by my comment that we should support our artist while they are alive and not when they die. Often times we celebrate our esteem artist after they pass and not when they are here to witness it. Oh what a beautiful album. I was too young to remembr the concert held on TV for this album. It wasnt until the 1980s when I saw Patti Labelle's Going Home to Gospel on TV which had an all star line up Gospel Greats which was almost as good as Aretha's Amazing Grace concert. But when 2005-2006 came around Patti did another gospel album and I wasnt crazy about that one. But I have to go to Amazon.com and buy this. I'm shoutin for joy over this. Praise Him! What a classic new treat for me.

this album sold 2 million copies in the u.s alone. that's double platinum. some of the greatest session musicians ever performed on this album. all of you so called gospel artist of today need to listen and take notes. nothing sophisticated about this music. it comes from the heart. comes from our roots. why are so many of you ashamed of this music? why do you all feel that your music needs to be more sophisticated? we're in the time of creflo dollar and fred price. get back to your ROOTS.

Bless God for Aretha. I have bought this cd and least 4 times and misplaced them each one. I am going to have to get another one.
My heart is broken because of the news on Aretha. She will never know how his Album personally gave me courage through turmoil in the teen years and early adult years, periodically, now. I thank God for Aretha Franklin. God bless her and I will definately be praying for my precious

If you all want to support Aretha Franklin during her battle with cancer. Support her by purchasing some of her DVD's to help her pay for her medical bills. Let lift the Queen of Soul in prayer all over the country......let's show her we love her while she is still with us to witness it. She has A-1 coverage and she is a woman of FAITH, who is standing on the WORD of the LORD for her healing and cure...with the stripes of Jesus Christ she is HEALED and made whole! Speak life and not death over her, be in agreement for her healing and cure! Don't ever assume that a person is broke. She is a royalty artist~!

@thephotographer4you Whether Aretha has cancer or not, it's NOT YOUR business to put it out there. Aretha can most likely pay her bills too! The real lift she will get is from the respect she has earned and from everyone RESPECTING her as they have over the decades and the years to come by letting Aretha do her thing. I doubt she wants you nosing all up in her ass when she can do it on her own. Jesus will take care of the rest. Now get to church.

@spontina I see a salty person in the house. The last time I check I was grown! I have an opinion just like anyone else. Matter of fact which I am entitled to..the last time I've heard or seen from images of Ms. Franklin. She does not have cancer and looks quite divine. The "DIVA" could use support to bring her story to light on the big screen. Guess you missed that interview? HA!
