@Levita156 I see it the other way: We ("the germans") deal with our history so much that anybody forgets: It wasn't US, that happened generations ago!
For example, i enjoy jokes about Americas patriotism-soaked history; and if someone can't accept jokes about german history, he owns a problem inside himself!
@TheMullerClan I, too, think the problem is that we still don't dare to say anything that may be connected with the NS; while everyone else doesn't give a damn about what it looks like as long as the commentator knows what's real.
we should get a bit more relaxed (as long as it's clear it's only humor).
@Realsilencer right translation: John: yeah, 25 years ago we made 2 Episodes for German TV. it was a very, very pleasant recommendation. that's right, yes.
Eric: yes, yes. you can get a cheap laugh this way.
I can't get the last part. something with a bat or so.
"Everybody kept denying they knew where it was.", "What camp? We have not heard of this."
It's not fair to say the Germans (still??) deny the existence of such camps or even the cities where those camps were (I suppose this is what the joke was about), because it wasn't the Germans denying it in WW II, it was the the Nazis. And the Nazis surely weren't really up to tell the German people what was going on in those "camps", so of course the average German citizens didn't know.

"we don't have a sense of humor, but we understand you do" I think that's totaly true.
most of our comedians are quite bad.
even the british humor needs quite to get used to.

If anyone laughs about those primitive jokes, he should come to Germany and make up his own mind.
I don't know any other country, that deals with it's history so intensively.
And just because of those jokes and prejudice no German dares to be proud of his origin...

The "german subs" were in the original DVD, made by Pythons itself
These subs (german subs) are not mine ;)

I thought it was rather clever they were actually speaking German when the subtitles were complete nonsense.

What would be the right translation?

"Yes, 25 years ago we did make two shows for the German TV, that was a very, very pleasant advice (I guess Cleese meant to say 'experience')"
"You were able to get a few cheap laughs that way"
"*something completely nonsensical*"
Hope that helps.

"*something completely nonsensical*" is in fact a botched "I can kill a bat with an egg spoon", but nobody would understand it that way

It's part of the comedy.
