@monkeymaniak Garmin allows you to download updated maps from their web site. Some models come with free updates for life, while others require that you pay a fee each time you update them. The cost is about $70 as I recall. If you live in a relatively slow growth area, my guess is that you won't notice the older maps. If you live in an expanding city, the annual updates would be a great idea.
Just bought this unit today and i gotta say its pretty awesome. very simple to use. took me about 10 mins to get the hang of it, and its awesome that it actually tells you the street names, makes it sooo much easier. cuz im horrible with miles and all that this way i just gotta look at the street signs :) great review.
I got the Nuvi 255W a few months ago and I love it, we have gone to Buffalo New York and never had a issue with navigation, just make sure you update the firnware every once in a while, but other then that very good device, thanks for the video.
@Brofromthed I am guessing that unless you've selected to turn off the text to speech that the unit needs to be reset. Apparently the instructions on the 255W are a little misleading because they refer to a "reset" button but it is hidden under a sticker on the bottom of the unit. My old nuvi 360 had a button under the antenna. You can also reset to factory settings, but it wipes out all of your user data. You hold one corner of the display and press ON at the same time. Check the Garmin site.
I bought this navigator at Best Buy. I also use the same voice for instruction. 'Samantha' is incredibly annoying and sounds a bit dismissive as I stray from the charted course when she says 'recalculating'. I'd like to see Garmin offer a voice-activated feature to engage the mute command. My boss thinks it's hilarious when I tell my navi to "Shut up, bitch", while I'm talking to him on the cell phone.
lol@ 1:43 when the GPS interupts him...good video though....thanks, i can't decide between this and the tomtom xl 340 s.....target $97 or staples 120 for the nuvi...sigh
i was in teh same situation as you lol trust me if u haven't arleady go for the garmin! i know it sounds cleshay every1 is saying it but it has way more POI's and you can download more if u want. but if u got the tomtom its fine really u can't go wrong either way its personal prefrance
Lol He's in a Toyota Prius. It actually has a recessed LCD with the car data instead of a normal dash guages. The nook for the LCD is just obscured by the door frame.
I think it's a Toyota Echo or possibly a Prius. I think they have all of the gauge info in the center cluster and all digital I think. That would drive me nuts. I need my analog gauges behind the steering wheel.
The text to speech on this unit is terrible. Very muffled, sounds like the speaker is blown on these. Garmin has admitted to using highly compressed audio files for this unit.
Questionfor anyone who owns a Nuvi 255W. i have noticed a glitch on two of my units, and i was wondering if you could do the test and let me know if your unit does the same. here's what you need to do. active the GPS Simulator mode, then GO, points of interest, the gas stations or whathever you like, choose one, but do not hit the go button. touch route info instead. when you see the route touch back and then touch map. if the glitch happens it should select back instead. altough it souldn't.

Oh, by the way. radioshack will have this tomorrow, black friday, for $119 online.
Amazon just had a lightning deal on it for 119 with free shipping, they sold out in 10 minutes.

Figures. Lol. Thanks for the reply. Have you seen Jeff Dunhams' bit on the Prius? Search for it, =D
Personally I dont understand the prius. Id rather be in a diesel VW jetta getting 50-60 mpg.
