Sea ice in the Arctic is reaching dramatic record lows There are other components of the cryosphere that we can look at as well, permafrost, the Greenland ice sheet, global glacier mass, and these all carry the Global Warming signal.

One must look at the balance of evidence, not just those bits one likes. And this balance is clearly in agreement with all other indicators that warming is real and rapid.

Arctic ice extent reached its highest levels since 1979 this winter. This bonehead acts like there is some kind of mysterious problem with ice melt in an area that is probably the equivalent to 1/10,000th the total area of the arctic. There are as many places where it is growing just as fast as it is melting. The worse they make the "problem" out to be, the more gov. lunch money they get. Shame on them.

People who want to ignore global warming have made a lot of press about the area of ice in winter 2007 & 2008 being as big as 1978. What they are careful to NOT say is that the wide expanse of this new ice is a few months old and very thin, where as in 1978 the majority of the ice was more than a decade old and greater than 4 meters thick. Rather than cherry picking your data, look at the long time trends for ice thickness.

7 years ago the amount of Arctic ice was nothing to write home about looking at the last 50 years. But let's ignore that for a minute.

This year over 90% of the Arctic ice cap is less than 2 years old. 10 years ago about 40% of it was less than 2 years old. If you cherry pick your data carefully enough you can support anything. Those wanting to ignore global warming are doing a lot of cherry picking.

So the arctic sea ice retreats, and the arctic gets warmer.. light and warmth gets to a region too dark, cold and hostile to support life.

Its like rising c02 levels and a warmer climate... trees feed on c02, warmth and light.

Certain species will die out some will thrive and this has happened over and over in earths history.

Thanks for posting this video, NASA people. Although if I may suggest a few things, you need more sound. It would help, for example, if there was a voice-only narrator describing some of the images in the beginning while they were on the screen, rather than having just the text at the start. Also, if you upload higher-res videos to Youtube, users can watch them in HQ or HD. This is a new thing, so you no longer have to fiddle with video settings - just upload the best you have (within reason)

A snowman is loosely-packed snow. Glaciers are solid ice, and are much more resistant to melting from heat then a snowman. The two don't correlate.
