  • WOW!

  • I honestly think this is one of mozzas best live performances

  • @sweetandtendermoz ,I would concur with that,,,very powerful!

  • he's so good live. he isn't just a singer.

  • never really listened to anything of morissey besides all the smiths records

but wow this song immediately hit me,

he still sounds fabulous live.. he's grown old & still he sounds so good

i'll be seeing him live this summer

for i must watch this god in person

  • stunning!! a man at the peak of his powers

  • wow i didn't listen to it for a while... great song :]

  • this makes me cry...........love it

  • I would like to hear this at my funeral in 2052.

  • a masterpiece

  • the last nite...

  • last nite...

  • Truly i do love Morrissey.

  • My all time favorite Morrissey song. It redefines melancholy down to inconsolable depths.

  • speechless

  • Women only love me for my mind.

  • i think this is probably one of his most beautiful songs, it perfectly sums up what it feels like when something ends...

  • Listening to this is like being at church or something....kinda spiritual,

    Phew, goose bumps.

  • Thought this was the name of a street in Manchester. Had no idea until recently that maudlin is an adjective, lol. Brings an interesting twist to the song.

    maud·lin /ˈmɔdlɪn/ Show Spelled[mawd-lin] Show IPA

    –adjective

    1. tearfully or weakly emotional; foolishly sentimental: a maudlin story of a little orphan and her lost dog.

    2. foolishly or mawkishly sentimental because of drunkenness.

  • goodbye house forever. i never stole a happy hour around here. truly i do love you.xxx

  • Love Moz...America misses him.

  • Moz rules! Anyone notice how he also surrounds himself w/ great musicians? Hard to beat Johnny on guitar though.

  • when I start hearing it, I would like to sing it but I cant, my voice always breaks......

  • Love Morrissey....I miss this.

  • At first listen I thought it was a), now your doubts make me doubt about it too! XD

  • dont get doubts by ...love!!!! we will never get troubles' til we'll get strong emotions from these melodies....cheeerseee

  • c) without a doubt.

  • This song is so beautiful it hurts. Just like Moz's voice, and love.

  • I don't think he remembered the lyrics for this....best song ever written by him, but original lyrics way better...the way he sings it here it's a disaster

  • @tedorlowski1972 I think he just trimmed the song down from the 7 minutes plus that the album version is.

    I prefer this arrangement.

  • lo mas grande!!!! Morrissey, idolo forever!!!!!

    temón!!!

  • Tonight im spending the last night in the home i have lived in for almost 20 years seems apropiate to listen to this song before leaving.

  • Pretty sad, i will have to do the same in a few months.... and it hurts...

  • @omarqure Good luck.

  • @omarqure shit It's 22 for me... FREE! finally learned how to SAVE! =p

  • fuck all of you feeling nothing, ass rich kids that get whatever daddy wants to get you!!!but what are you going to do when the noviltys gone???tell spoiled brats that cant even keep a interesting conversation..think about it you have your comments but your views are pulp!!!

  • just perfect!

  • i've always wondered who in the song says that line, and whether it's a quote or not. is it a) whoever drove him home in the van complaining that women only like him for his mind, b) whoever drove him home in the van complaining that women only like morrissey for his mind, or c) morrissey/narrator complaining that woman only like him for his mind?

i prefer to think b). the omission of "complaining" in this live version just confuses things further

  • Cuddlesducks

    Thanks for the confusion.

  • great song, used to listen to this all the time as sleep crept on me

  • Morrissey ist einfach Kult... SUPER

  • Thanks for posting this, I never knew he sang this live! So beautiful,it tears me up everytime. It reminds me so much of the house I grew up in for years and always came back to in times of trouble...soon gone now for good. "I took a key from Maudlin St, well its only bricks and mortar, but truly I do love you...Goodbye house forever"

  • i never stole one happy hour around here...

  • This is my favourite song in the world an' i don't think that will ever change. It affects me so much its disturbing beautiful.

  • long live mozza!

  • Beautiful song. Morrissey - the ugliest man? I don't think so somehow, he is perfect

  • such a beautiful song

  • i also love this song the first time i heard it i cried, 1st verse is amazing! i love morrissey saw him last week the best gig ive ever been to, no one comes close. much love and repsect to all mozza fans!

  • Just wonderful!!!!

  • Morrissey is an exquisite, melodramatic gift - no one should forget that!. How many teen (and adult) lives has he enriched?!

  • He can play with our emotions with his deepest lyrics

  • I will faint if I hear this live someday, I'm trembling already.

  • I don't get tired of hearing this song, remeinds me of so many things, personal things, inner feelings, things that happened to me, i'll lo to hear it live too. (they suspended the show in Orlando in march and i miss his show in Houston in april, danm it!) but i will see him!

  • great !!!!!

  • Never seen this live, it is one of my favourite songs, thanks for posting. Beautiful

    xxxxx

  • Nice to see fellow fans feel the way I do about this song...

  • The first time I heard this song, I was mesmerised by the beauty of it. Such a hauntingly hypnotic song. Incredible.

  • Doesn't get ANY better!

  • I left home to another suburb when I was ten. It speaks volumes. How i didn't fit in. It was a minisicule up the social ladder but they knew. Maudlin street is where I moved to. No coming back.

  • Pure muscial genius like beauty.

  • His greatest song.

  • This is incredibly hypnotic. It is so hauntingly atmospheric.

  • yeah... the lyrics aren't necessarily wrong... they are jumbled though.

brilliant though. never heard this live.

  • Winter push on

  • But you ... without clothes

Oh, I could not keep a straight face

    Me - without clothes ?

Well, a nation turns its back and gags...

  • I cant get enough of this ....such a awesome feeling this song gives...

  • wow didnt expect to come across this clip. thanx

  • Thanks, for posting this "natyvox". Beautiful, as always...

  • Moz changes lyrics like the fucking wind man, are you serious? Watch Hairdresser on Fire.

  • dunno what you're on about, the lyrics in this version are darned close. Have you ever seen Moz REALLY mess with his lyrics? I'd consider these fairly faithful, if a bit abbreviated.

  • I think someone is alluding to the fact that this is an abreviated version from the longer original. Some verses are cut out and some simply rearranged.

regardless...a nation turn it's back and gags! perfect

  • MATADOR

  • I know he likes to change the lyrics a bit, but the lyrics are all over the place in this version. It's still fantastic though. I have the studio version on my account, if anyone wants to hear it.

  • favorite fucking song

  • were the worlds ugliest boy, became what you see,the worlds ugliest man.....my life story is this song!!

  • i am the worlds ugliest man.............

  • this leaves out some of my favorite lyrics,"dear inspector don't you know............crept thru the park no i cannot steal a pair of jeans off a clothesline for you.........." i guess it is a long song

  • I adore this song, but it kills me at the same time.

  • simply beautiful . Little things like this make such a big difference.

  • I am not generally a huge Moz or, for that matter, Smiths fan, but this song blows me away. And this is a great performance. So evocative, heartrendering, so exposed. "a half-life disappears today" I could cry, too

  • One of Moz gem. It's so powerful that every time, I listen to it it makes me cry! This is what I want them to play at my funeral...

  • Para mi amigo Memo...

  • Mozza - dude. You did not need the Smiths. ;)

  • love this song one of my favorites

  • I totally adore this guy. I'm only 14 and I just started listenining to my mums smiths and morrissey cds and I think I am in love!

  • My 6 year old daughter and my 4 year old son feel exactly the same as you do. They know every work to every Smiths song and a lot of the Morrissey solo songs as well. They absolutely love it as much as we do. We just saw Morrissey at the Hollywood Bowl, which was recorded for an upcoming DVD by the way, and he was just AMAZING!!!!!

  • Welcome to the world of the Smiths and Morrissey..you mind has been opened and you will never see life and relationships the same again..you have been blessed now

  • brace yourself. this love wont die soon-even if you want it to. moz 4 life

  • Yep briliant

  • i luv this song!

  • Gorgeous. & what a beautiful solo from Alain. Thanks for the post.

  • oh i do hope.. i hope your singing now....

  • Can anyone ID the band members?

  • Lead Guitar - Alain Whyte

Rhythem Guitar - Martin 'Boz' Boorer

    Bass - Gary Day

    Drums - Dean Butterworth

And the actual music was written by Stephen Street

  • Brilliant, always reminded me of moving out of my childhood house, always give me a lump in my throat the lyrics ring true.

  • Great to see this performance - thanks!
