I played a reissue at a friends house..It sounded great. There is a great deal on TGP for a 64 DL in excellent condition...Do you think there is that much of a difference? What speaker do you reccomend? thanks
Great combination (Les Paul & Deluxe Reverb) Even at the low volumes sounds like you get nice lush sounds. Breaks up nicely when you cranked it but has an element of clarity. Doesn't sound "farty" like a Fender Blues Junior. Oh yeah...nice playin' too!
there's nothing like the sound of a nice Les Paul played thru a blackface DR... heavenly tone & volume that won't leave you with hearing loss! nice playing, too ! :)
Dude you make me sick. That is ridiculously good playing. Never a rude note in the whole damn video. You should be on a Lear flying to the crossroads music festival lol. Good job.
I'm sure the cleans are great, but that's not what I'm looking for. I guess I'll need to shop around a little. Half the reason of having a tube amp is so it overdrives naturally. The amp I have now is very simple, and it has some beautiful cleans, but it doesn't distort, and it doesn't have reverb or anything. I'm just looking to extend my collection to include some varied amps, but volume is a problem for me.
An option to get that natural tube drive tone down low is the boss SD-1, people dont realise but they are VERY close to the tube screamer in terms of schematics and give similar results, especially to the ts9 (im sure tube screamer purists will be lighting their torches from this comment but oh well...i dun want to start an argument)
plus they cost $50 as opposed to the $150 for a TS
These are about 25 watts, right? How loud do these get? I live in a townhouse, and have cranky neighbors. I've got a weird 7 watter right now (60s Japanese stuff) and that's already starting to push it. I wanted some sort of 5E3 amp, but I like the Deluxe Reverb sound (less compression, and it has reverb and trem).
they get pretty loud dude....dont let 22w fool you. they are real clean down low but to drive the valves and get the full tone out of em you need to push it past 6 and thats just about jammin volume for me.
put it this way...at 6 on the tremolo channel, youd be looking at over 70db so ur cranky neighbors and their cranky neighbors would definitely hear it.
but look....this is providing you want to hear the amps tube drive come out, these things still sound good down low (but are clean as a whistle.
Thanks man!! Pretty much minor pentatonic. But I also use modes quite a bit over major key, or minor key stuff. Dorian mostly. There's a cool mix of major/minor pentatonic scale that I call the "swing" or "jump" blues scale. That's what BB King uses a lot.
The tone is great, clean but enough grit to add some nice texture. Great combination with the DR amp; mine is a '66 and will never sell it. Do you know the ohm readings on each pickup?
I know this will sound crazy, but will that amp do metal if you throw a BOSS DS-1 or something similar in front? The cleans are TO DIE FOR, but I like the heavy stuff too...
I'm just using the camcorder's mic. It's a Panasonic GS500 and it's a great all around camera. This is on the auto mic setting. It automatically adjusts the level. Great Lieca lens too!!
Dan, can you tell me what equipment you use to video your sessions? How do you mike the amp - is it a separate mic, remote from the camcorder? The quality of yr vids is way superior to many other home-produced efforts on YT. Ben
dude you rock!

thats why people use tube screamers etc
murraypw 4 years ago
Well, since decibels are on a logarithmic scale, 10x the watts means twice the loudness. So, how much louder than 7 (clean) would a Deluxe Reverb be?
