The world has already achieved post scarcity. What you are doing by distributing the productive capacity is guaranteeing Abundance will continue. This is great. More people need to build their own productive capacity even if they aren't self sufficient. Having something real that you can trade that does not depend on your labor is real security and wealth.

This is true, but not everyone has access to arable land or proper hydroponics equipment.

We aren't post scarcity yet. Logistics is still a major issue.

@vman456 The world has technically always been post scarcity. If population is growing its because there is more than enough produced to support more people. But the change I believe you are looking at actually happened at the beginning of 1900's. Mechanization and limited automation started to produce so much of things that people began treating it like it was free. This effect is common today. Products rapidly become obsolete. This is an effect of Abundance.

@vman456 Aquaponics is available to anyone with access to natural light. If you have a roof, or a window you have what you need. You can make the equipment from plastic garbage bags and waste plastic bottles. It does not require anything high tech or expensive. Distributed technology eliminated the logistics problem. If you produce on site with local materials there is no logistics. This is the next step. What is takes is information.

Logistics is more of an issue when we consider the capitalistic intentions behind the distribution. It has to be global as well. Freight charges can still be very expensive.

I think we're too far in the game to go back to the old ways now, friend. Within 30 years poverty and hunger will be eliminated due to high-tech advancements as opposed to proper use of current technologies. When we can build nanofactories, then you'll see the true meaning of post scarcity. ;P

I may be trying this on a smaller scale in a couple years (with just my family) I'm sure I'll be using open farm tech extensively.
