Very cute! I have made it a long time ago, like 20 years ago, when I was a just a girl. The lady taught me but I didn't write down the recipe. Yours looks easy, thank you.
Just to be clear, the Coke is for drinking only, right? JK LOL
I always cook the meat when I make it. After its cooked I add: diced onions, minced garlic, shredded carrots, soy sauce, & raisins. The raisins give it a sweeter taste.
i've only made lumpia where we cook the meat (or filling) first. I learned while living in Guananamo Bay, Cuba. I was best friends with a girl (she was Filipino) who's parents owned the only Filipino stand on the island. :)
Lumpia originally came from the Chinese dialect Hokkien where it means "spring roll." The recipe was brought by Chinese immigrants to Southeast Asia. ;)
I guess every pinoy makes their own kind of lumpia, like adobo. Although, what ever happen to the circular lumpia wrappers? I know its a bitch trying to seperate them but its so thin and crunchy.
Most people in the Filipines eat with their hands anyway....why not just mix it with your hands. also, adobo is great . try it if you don't believe me.
Das pucked up.Lol, the way I learned how to make thirty three years ago when I was in the Navy, my buddies wife made it ground beef, carrots, celery, and oinions.
White pepper and glued with egg whites.
The best!! Add some cold beers and a football game and you're done.
This reminds me of something that I get at a local Chinese restaurant called a Vietnamese Roll. I'm not sure what meat they use, but I think it has the carrot in it and the wrapper is thinner. Are you familiar with those?
@moonpie31211 I am vietnamese. We have a few variations, but it is very similar to the ones here. We like to also add mung bean noodles and mushrooms to our springrolls. Everything else is the same. Sometimes we would use fish sauce instead of soy sauce, and even oyster sauce. We like to to mix ground pork with a mixture of crab or shrimp. It taste even better that way.
My X-wife precooked the pork, also used bean sprouts and we used egg at the end to seal the wrap. I got in trouble because I liked to eat out of the mixing bowl, good stuff.
@RyanTheMedStudent I'm making some veggie ones now. I made banana lumpia on tuesday by just cutting banana lengthwise and coating it with sugar , cinnamon, and cocconut.
@MISTALARES i prefer cooking the meat half cook prior to me adding it to wrapper rather having meat uncooked. . In my opinion, better safe than sorry....
hay can you use chicken in the lumpia instead? my husband is filipino and i cant cook any filipino dishes im irish so i mainly eat Irish type food! im goign to try this lumpia though thanks and you are funny!
I wanted to make lumpia one day but we had no carrot. It so happens that my mum was on the phone to her sister in the Philippines, my auntie.. She said to use potato instead.
my daughter can't stop tasting. here's my recipe. boiled chicken breast diced, chopped shrimps, tofu, green beans, carrots, sweet potato, salt and pepper. Dip with sweet vinegar with grd pepper and chili sauce.
I just made a hundred of these Thursday night. I've never seen that form of lumpia wrapper. I always use the old school round ones that are super thin. Way thinner than the ones you're using. I'm making another 100 this week since I had so much left over meat. Maybe I'll make a vid. Woo hoo! I have a neat little trick.
You can use lean ground turkey instead of pork (can't tell the difference except it is low fat/cholestral). Cook in canola oil to keep it healthy. Seal wrapper end by moistening with egg white to keep it in place. Yum!!
to AERO::di po nakakalason yong sandok na galing sa cabinet.mas malinis nga yon eh kasi di nalagyan ng alikabok, after hugas at punas para matuyo, nilalagay agad sa cainet o drawer..ganun po un sa ibang bansa..
