  • This was the year Shadow should have won the Monarch for sure!! the man had two big tunes, this one and Poverty is Hell. The judges didn't even put the man in the finals....it was one of the most perplexing decisions ever by judges of the Calypso Monarch competition.....they later said it was because he was not mobile enough on stage.......what BS!!! Everybody know Shadow's trademark is to stand up by the mic and jump on one spot.....LONG LIVE SHADOW!!! The original people's champion!!!

  • People were so happy back then.. Just enjoying Soca to de fullest :)

  • one person did not pay de devil

  • Djab Molasse (The Black Devil) was a created played by the French aristocracy to mimic the black slaves just as the characters Negue Jadin (The Field Negro).Dame Gawn Tete (Miss Big Breast) Gawn LoLo (Big Buttox) etc. Molasses, pitch oil,mud etc were used to make his white skin black.. The "Black Devil" on any plantation would be the slave who was the owners selected enforcer. His task was to whip slave who were rebellious, lazy or out of line.

  • thumbs up if u think the backup singers' "pac" epic.... @ 2:51

  • @uwistall25..................... he's probably ah decendant of one of the many slave traders who pummelled into poverty and lost ah lot of money when slavery was abolished......that or maybe he's just an IDIOT!!

  • My brother-in-law had the best dance for this song!!! It brings back so much memories.

  • 1994 .... ! old school soca rockin !

  • yes Grenada was once french before the english take over my grand parent from carriacou speak it so what ever trini jab is far from grenada jab we grenadians made jab big in trinidad old woman alone all dem jab jab tunes tallpree sign

  • @SPICEMAN516 What Grenadians love is Jab-molassie, molasses devil. But Jab is creole for Diable, which is French for devil... and that was in Trinidad since the days of slavery... yes Grenada has an influence, but don't forget, Grenadians came to Trinidad a long time before Tallpree was even thought of. Don't start this beef, because the truth is... The Grenadians who took to that masquerade, were no longer Grenadians. They had been generations in Trinidad... therefore, Trinis!!! all Caribbean!

  • Jab Jab is not from Grenada particularly. Remember... jab jab is creole for Diable... remember how many Grenadians came to Trinidad, before, during, and after slavery. Jab jab just happen to be a mas that they like to play. The Grenadian mas, is pierrot Grenade. Remember, devil mas particularly came from a mixture of African masquerade, Cannes Brulees (Canboulay), and French Carnival culture. We definitely not be arguing about dis. he's talking about Tobago. Yuh know dem into devil mas.

  • Trinivalist! I admire your knowledge of a heritage soon to be driven away by the lack of knowledge being given to so many Caribbean students and residents!

I'm actually doing a paper on Carnival for one class and Calypso for another...PLAY DE DEVIL!

  • It's so crazy and so deep when you get into the history! For all the haters and all those miseducated get into Hollis Liverpool, Errol Hill, Janice Quinter, Bruce Procope, Daniel Crowley, Philip Scher and the many other's writing the history for you to read since some of you can't even begin to wrap the oral histories being told around your heads.

    One People, One love!

  • @Trinivalist i never heard of a pierrot grenade in my life lol... Jab is my life

  • @PHEOLA1 look up ole mas characters. Pierrot is the one that comes with a speech. They have them on here.

  • @Trinivalist yea i understand what you mean.. true Jab originated in TnT but Grenada's jab is wayyyyy different

  • @PHEOLA1 And why shouldn't Grenadian jab jab be different? The more the merrier. Every Caribbean island that shares this 'Trinival' (Trinidad style carnival), should have their own way of playing it. That's what makes it fun and meaningful for them. That's what would make me want to visit another carnival. i don't want to see de same exact thing.

  • @Trinivalist I totally agree! i love all the ifferent cultures and music that the caribbean has to offewr.. I will try my best to get a chance to experience it all hopefully

  • @Trinivalist Not true. Jab- Jab is from the Diable Molasse. Diable Molasse is the result of a slave falling into the vat of molasses,an unfortunate death. The remaining slaves believed the grounds were haunted by the "Jab Molassie". That is why the original "devils" painted themselves black and wore chains. And yes, lots of Trinidad Carnival traditions were brought over by the huge amount of Grenadian slaves. Island-specific is inaccurate b/c we were slaves before we Bajans, Trinis or Grenz.

  • @shelbie008 I've been researching this for some time now... Jab is Creole for Diable- meaning devil. Therefore, Jab Molassie would mean molasses devil, and Jab Jab would mean double devil... the Jab Jab is the devil that mocks the court jester of the royal court. He/she comes with a colorful outfit, sometimes a heart on the chest, small horns on the head, and a whip. They play a competition to see who could beat who the worst. The Jab molassie is the devil dealing with the slave and molasses.

  • @Trinivalist Well said, educate the idiots

  • @Trinivalist dre say licks in yo' ass

  • Di bassman in meh head again!

  • what is wrong with fbzd3z, yes i agree that jab jab is grenadian, but what is this classic of a song have to do with grenadian jab.And this goes for saintcarma the least you can do is appreciate great music which part of this song deserves -6 tell me.

  • I agree, grenedians acting like they didnt steal enough of our shit, he'll get over it.

  • great

  • to dem peopleweh give him thumbs down, di child mean das he song.

  • English language people I LOVE SHADOW

  • what you think people speaking....it's called a slang ..foolish..don't type anything ef yuh doh understand we talk...

  • I was born and grew up in trinidad apparently you have to speak like an ole n*&&*r to be understood around here

  • shadow is boss!

  • @FBZD3Z jab jab was played in Trinidad since slavery. do your research. I have. You say Jab Jab is Grenadian... prove it. Do you even know what Jab jab means? Or it's history? You wouldn't say it's Grenadian. Why do they play Jab jab anyway? Answer these questions and we have a debate!
