  • hi Koren, i like ur vids so much... well im usin a lemon dishwashing soap with the extravirgin olive oil... my old brushes are softer than ever and ofcourse cleaner... all the pigment stains of make up on my brushes were gone...=) just a suggestion to everyone else rather than spending on MAC cleaner... hope this would help

  • Kinda creepy. I mean the song o:

  • Thank you! Btw, what song do you use in your intro?

  • Did u say squirl hair? grooss that is why I stick to eco tools.

  • Thx Koren!

  • I've heard to dry your brushes upside down so the water can seep out of the brushes into the cup. Will the work?

  • @Peace6Love6 It works because the water does`nt seep into the ferrule. If it does, it loosens the glue holding the bristles together and will cause shedding. Try your best to keep water contact with the bristles :P

  • Hi! It's imperative to clean my foundation brush every time I use it?

  • wow love your vids

  • Warm water!? No, no, no, no! Warm water melt the clue that holds the bristles in place and cause the bristles to shed. That is brush cleaning 101. Never ever use warm water.

  • @LeDauphinePapi He said warm water darling:) Not hot water.

  • haha i love the way your facial feautures change when your talking.. just saying:)

  • WOW. This is the most informative brush clean video. You did an awesome Job.

  • I love your voice! It is so soothing to me! Thank you so much for the video!<3

  • Are synthetic brushes less likely to harbor bacteria?

  • How long do I have to dry the brushes??

  • @gilloveb one night

  • @gilloveb Brushes usually take 24 hours to clean once you've deep cleaned them and if you've left them in a warm place. Sometimes it's took 3 days for my big brushes to dry. When you use brush cleanser you should be looking at no more than an hour to dry with something like the MAC one.

  • Very helpful. Thank you.

  • The olive oil trick for long-wear eyeliner or lipstick is brilliant! Thanks for the great tutorials!

  • Very helpful ... THANKS A BUNCH ... are you Filipino ?

  • hi.... great video... just a question though: what happens if you work your brush in circular motion onto the paper towel?

  • @mikyoc527

I kind of screwed up the shape of my MAC brushes by doing that.

Cheaper brushes are fine if you're rough with them, especially being synthetic but natural fibers and goat hair strands will go a bit wonky.

  • @ciaobellakate oh, so that's what happens? makes sense. learned so much from you... thanks. keep it up :)

  • Your videos are always so helpful! thnx!

  • Love this video:)

  • i did a huge mistke once.... To dry them faster, i used the hair dryer for some seconds.....But it was enough to destroy my powder brush.... :( Can i revive it?

  • i left my brushed soak in baby oil for about 10 minutes. ive cleaned them twice after that with baby shampoo. but they still have baby oil stuck on them. which screws up makeup application. any idea how i can get it off? please help!

  • Love your videos, thank you for the amazing tutorials and tips you give us!

  • Great info!!!

  • i looooove your videos :)

  • I have a question, how long does it take for your powder (bigger) makeup brushes to dry after washing them?

  • I love more you than michelle phan,,,

  • thanks a lot !!! u r more professional than michelle phan

  • What happens if you do not wipe them on the paper towel or washcloth??

  • Why do people dislike these videos? He's so helpful!

  • I've had my brushes for years,I clean them after each use, and they are still in great condition, and I dried them sideways. You don't have to dry them upside down, they'll be fineeeee

  • Thanks!! Really helpful video...I'm off to check out ur video on how to make ur own brush cleanser now!!

    Bye!

  • Not to be mean but your supposed to dry your brushes upside down so the water goes out cause if you leave your brushes sidewards the water can still find it's way in the wood

  • Comment removed

  • can i ask u a question? can we reuse the sponge? and how long?

  • I really like your videos. You dont make the assumption (usually false) that someone knows what the heck we are doing. Thanks so much and keep up the good work!

  • i think your videos are amazing

  • @GeneralEclectik he looks like a filipino..

  • I have a quick question. When I go to different make up counters and talk with make up artists I have gotten mixed reviews about using MAC brush cleaner. The things I've been told is that MAC brush cleaner has alcohol and dries out the bristles. Do you feel there is any truth to this claim?

  • hi gorgeous! just a quick question... after using the MAC brush cleanser (which is the one I use), as you showed here on this video, I don't need to rinse the brushes in water then??I've been doing that... not necessary then? Thanks a bunch! ALL the best!

  • Great vid! really informative. (:

  • i have a question, Is there a way to remove water stains off the farrell of the brush? help please..

  • I am subscribing to you immediately! You are awesome! Thanks for all of your great videos, you are great!

  • I finally investing in MAC brushes & I was doing the circular motion when cleaning. Thanks for sharing this method

  • Thank you so much for making this video! I have not watched a more thorough and informative tutorial on brush cleaning.

  • Wow! I had know idea there was that much to know about brushes!!

  • @jazzyjojoyegz21 oh my god how ignorant can you get?!

  • @ninatothehenry i didnt write that it was my cousin we share an account

  • @jazzyjojoyegz21 s/he's incredibly immature.

  • @ninatothehenry lol i know iv told her that many times

  • @jazzyjojoyegz21 get your own account. if you disagree with what she's saying you shouldn't be associated to it, cause i blame you as much as her.

  • @jazzyjojoyegz21 i cant have an account without sharing and this is the second time iv been on! shes been on like 50 times, and why would u blame me more when shes on more shes 15 and im 11!!!

  • @jazzyjojoyegz21 Can you do makeup as well as him ? Do you know anything about prope makeup techniques? Are YOU gay?

Get a life =\ If his sexuality bothers you so much get off his channel.

  • @DarKomplexshun first of all i didnt write that! my cousin did we share an account i already talked to her and not to write stuff like that sorry.

  • I didnt dry my Mac foundation brush properly when i first got it, and for a while after because i didnt know how to properly clean it. Eventually, the wood handle separated from the metal. t.t made me so sad because i cleaned it alot, but because of my lack of knowledge about brushes i ended up ruining my favorite brush. ;'(

  • thank you for sharing this :)

  • @mirandaforever43 aww dont be so hard on urself!

  • hi!!! do you have any suggestion on how i can preserved the number and logo of my mac brushes?? i know im picky like that... and also i what can i do with those already faded?? please please please please... i need your help koren.. thanks

  • @talk2eunice try a thin layer of clear nail polish

  • @tnwar330 thank you ;)

  • @talk2eunice

hi, this is what do I do: I block the logo and the number with clear nail polish, just enough to cover it.

  • i like how u explain everything!! all ur tutorial videos are awsome!!! keep making videos ;)

  • Thanks for this video. This is great!

  • wow! i washed my brushes a couple days ago (i've never washed them before and i've had them for months) and now my acne is starting to go away! who knew!! THANKS ENCORE

  • fake beauty is for fake people.

  • Thanx

  • do the Michelle Phan way She Is SO Great

  • DRY IT UPSIDE DOWN!!!!! if u dry it on its side the water will get into the ferral and loosen the glue!!!!

  • @katielvsmj i learned that from michelle phan lol.

  • @oxutmioxkx yeah that is where i learned it lol

  • First off..love u Koren ur great! Gotta question tho.I'm thinking of making some home made cleanser..do you rinse after you use that one? And is it diluted enough to put in a spray bottle?

  • @legallybrunette004 i have the exact question... dont you have to rinse the home made cleaner from ur brushes???

  • This video was really helpful. Thank you. May god bless you.

  • can you please explain why some brushes sud and others dont?? maybe uve already said it in a video sorry :( im just really curious :)

  • this may be a stupid question but the brushes that i ordered online are coming in like 3 days and im wondering how should i clean them. should i deep clean them or just normal cleaning with cleansers? and how often do you clean with cleansers?

  • thanks ! so we can put olive oil in the cleanser??

  • of couse! i do!

  • can i use a blow drier with the brushes laying flat to speed up the process?

  • I have on low heat when I was in a hurry they are fluffy but you can smooth them down

  • i was just wondering, i just got the sigma brushes, n they came with like brush guards, should i put those on when i leave the brushes to dry??

  • yes you should! (:

  • oh thank you so much for this helpful information. you're going on my favorites list. thank u so much again!

  • I LOVE EnKore Makeup!

  • Can I use the homemade brush cleanser the same way without rinsing?

Will the homemade cleanser work as well as the mac or does it make sense to buy it if I can afford it?

    Thanks for the great tips!

  • tks tks tks you're the best!

  • Hi Koren! I like your tutorial the best. I've watched other make up gurus showing how they clean their make up brushes. And I was actually disappointed with one of the make up gurus because she was so harsh in cleaning her brushes AND she couldn't care less if she cleans it with strong and I mean strong running water!

  • can we use a home made brush cleanser?

  • i do the wiping on a washcloth to use less paper(:

  • Thanks for the video. SO helpful. Once again, you are awesome Koren. :D

  • Great! Thanks!!! =D

  • very, very helpful.

    thankyouu x

  • omg thnks sooo mcuh

  • Thanks aloooooooooooooooooot

  • Very helpful, thank you!

  • Haha, * Que Random Tarzan music......NAO*

  • Great!! Thank you!!!!

  • once my sister has used one of my big blush brushes, i always use it to do my foundation, blush etc.

    and?

the (not so) clever girl used it in glitter...

    GLITTER!

every single move is like tones and tones of glitter puffing all around you!

your clothing, your face, hands, sink, mirror, air is full of and/or covered in.. GLITTER!

i tried to get rid of it, i can't..

washing washing washing, useinf diff powders everything failed..

how can i get rid of this stupid shiny shine glitter?!

  • Thank you so much for the great tips.. love it! =)

  • I completely <3 you!

This video and the homemade cleanser video have been extremely helpful!!

& from what I can see you have a lot more videos I can benefit from!

    Thanks!

  • To keep the MAC logo on brushes paint over the MAC logo with clear nail varnish! :)

  • THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks!!! Very helpful! I've always seen the MAC consultants cleaning their brushes this way without the water and even got a Petrie dish from one of them so I could do mine this way. Much easier and less chance of getting water rundown into the bristle/wood end.

  • thnak you ver much koren......I really like all ur tutorial:) it is very informative.......KEEP IT UP!!!n I love ur videos

  • cant we just deep clean everyday after using brushes?

  • That might ruin them

  • ohh i see, ok thanks :)

  • yeah but who would spend that much time to? Everyday deep cleaning isnt nesscary

  • I may be if you have VERY snsitive skn like I do. Hust about ANYTHING will give me a reaction, so , I deep clean them every three days.

  • thanks so much Koren, I will definatly try this at home!! <3

  • I have huge foundation brushes from Bare Minerals. Do i dip the big brush with a lots, lots of brissles into the cleanser too?

    thank you

  • Didn't he say to spray the brush with the cleanser? If you just dip it in you'll waste the cleanser?

  • Thanks for this, enKore!!!

  • This video really helps! Thanks!

I used to do another method, but the lying the brush flat thing is similar only the brush bristles hang out at the edge so the air can circulate around them :)

I will start doing the sweeping method now...

  • umm wait i have a mac 187 brush. Do i still clean it going back and forth or do i clean it in a cirlcular motion???

  • Enkore I need major help. I have stained 2 of my Mac brushes with Teal pigment. Baby shampoo and Mac brush cleanser are not restoring them back to their white bristle color. What can I do?? Did I ruin them forever?

  • now i am probably not as knowing in this kinda stuff as enkore but i did the same thing and i went to a mac store and they told me that that problem you have is indeed unfix able it really sucks!!

    sorry!

  • try dipping them into olive oil... might help

    good luck

  • Use olive oil to take out the residue and pigmentation, then deep cleanse your brush. It should worth with either synthetic or natural bristles!

Remember if using a shampoo to deep cleanse, stay away from shampoos that contain sulfates (ALS, SLS) ingredients. They will cause the bristles to thin out and become dry overtime.

  • Try Dove bar soap

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial! I loved it. You gava amazing tips that I never thought of! Thanks again!

  • luv ur video thanks

  • thanks alot for sharing enkore!

  • very informational!! thx a lot enkore!

  • great video :) thanks for the tutorial :D

  • you dont rinse the brush after using the brush cleanser? wouldnt that leave cleanser on your brushes?

  • I was just reading the back of the MAC brush cleansing solution and it says to apply some solution onto damp brushes and work it through as you would any detergent or shampoo (difference is there would be no foaming)...then you must rinse thoroughly and leave to dry. So according to the MAC professionals water should be the final liquid to touch your brushes. I'm going to start cleaning my brushes this way rather than using shampoo because mac knows best about their products...

  • sorry i recently asked something on another one of your videos without noticing this one disregard my question :) i hope you see this first! :D

  • can you use regular shampoo?

i know baby shampoo is probably not as harsh but will it REALLY damage it if i use normal shampoo?

  • Baby shampoo IS normal shampoo. People have all this weird shampoo with stuff in it along with some magic BS advertising and perfumes that eat hair. Yours grows back- but brushes don't. Think furs.

  • thank you! this really helped!

  • why do some ppl mix the brush cleaner with warm water..can we do that 2?

  • is this way, better than putting the mac's brush cleanser on the paper towel and then cleaning your brushes???

  • no, if u just put some on a paper towel and clean it that way, it works wayyy better

  • Just try soaking a paper towel and then dragging twenty brushes over it until they're clean. If you don't want to bother cleaning brushes- go bare face. It's part of the package girls. If you watched the whole Enkore series of videos on brush cleaning you'd see there's reasons for this like the bactieria in your filthy brushes. Gross! But if you want to do anything you have to do maintenence on equipment.

Try oil painting brushes, 10 to 15 plus a day with oil soap. This? Easy!

  • Comment removed

  • so i started cleaning my brushes... and yeah, it was so gross!!!!!!!!! lmao but now i wash them weekly so its not so bad. amazingly it has actually improved my make up application and i havent had a break out since! HA! who woulda thunk :) thanx!!!

  • I have been using my MAC brush cleanser for deep cleaning, should I not?

I use it about every week, idk it just seems that everyone I watch clean their brushes uses shampoo to deep clean and the MAC cleanser to spot clean.

  • gosh that seems like such a waste of the MAC cleanser lol. i think you should use a baby shampoo instead if you wanna save $

  • Watch the brush cleaner video. There's reason for it- and the baby shampoo is once a month, cleanser weekly...

  • i was responding to a girl who says she uses the MAC cleanser as a deep cleaner but youtube jacked up my reply as usual. kthxbye

  • i agree with dawlz..its a waste of mac cleanser thats why baby shampoo is used to clean off the bulk of grime then mac cleanser to "spot clean" :]

  • thank you so much for replying! i feel special :)

yes there are like 3 black fibers in my 187 that constantly stick out , i thought I bought a defective brush because it was brand new, its good to know thats normal, thanks so much for your help!

    Youre the best!

  • holy crap. our kitchens look exactly the same! did you sneak into my house!? haha

  • Question: Do you find that brush cleanser leaves synthetic brushes feeling a little stiff, oily, or "dirty" feeling? When I use it on mine they don't feel as fluffy as a deep cleaning leaves them and will remain stuck in position if I push the bristles in a direction. Maybe because of conditioner?

Is this okay--for synthetic bristles as well as my skin (I tend to be on the oilier side of combination and prone to breakouts)? Should I rinse cleanser out with my synthetics to keep them fluffier?

  • Koren, thank you for your wonderful tutorials. You come across with such a friendly and helpful nature--it makes you very easy to watch and learn from :D

  • it actually made me laugh when you said "all brushes have bristles" OUBVIOUSLY!

great videos though, any questions I ever have about makeup, there is bound to be a video from you about it! thanks.

  • At least now I know how to clean nasty, dirty brushes!!! =)

    -Armand Félj

  • have you been on americas next top model before you look familiar...

  • he kinda resembles the makeup artist Sutan from antm!

  • The only thing I hate about washing my brushes is the shedding afterwards! It's such a pain to pick off all the little hairs left on my face. :(

  • thankss this is really helpful !

    U ROCK. ((:

  • thanks so much for the tutoral-I really appreciate and enjoy watching your videos (;

  • i luv the way u talk

    idky:)

  • EnKore, please don't laugh, but I use (and with success) Tail N' Mane shampoo (designed for horses) which is sold in most Kroger supermarkets. It conditions the hairs as well as cleans completely! It's just $3 and change for a 72 oz. huge bottle!

  • That's a thought because I do use baby shampoo. But check this out. I was just watching another video and one poster said she uses veggie wash on hers. Whatever works I guess.
