@factumDiabolus When I was younger everyone said I looked a bit like Andre Agassai, apparently I look a bit like Robert Vigna too. I'll have to add Russell Peters to the list now too...lol
Really dude? You completely misuse the word "Sterile", I believe the term you meant to say is "Sanitize". You're not throwing your wood chips and muslin sacks into an autoclave or having them undergo gamma ray sterilization or other chemical means of sterilization. You could use Tyndallization process..but I doubt you know what that is. I can guarantee you there's mold spores on your muslin sacks and wood chips even after you "Sanitized" them. Please take this as positive feedback.
@projectwoodbury Thanks 4 the feedback, sometimes when you make a video you just have to go with the words that come to you when filming. I am sure I am not the first brewer to misuse a word when trying to get something on camera. I agree, boiling chips would sanitize them....I always thought soaking something in alcohol for several days would sterilized it? (must be a rumor perpetuated by pop culture and media) I had to look up Tyndallization, I doubt any brewer would want 2 take the time.
@immolateus Not a problem, again I was trying to create a quick summarized positive feedback. I did however find your video very helpful in dry hopping. Well, honestly very few chemicals are capable of sterilizing. Some microorganisms are very resilient and generally won't harm us in beer. But they can cling on to the walls of our equipment or beer stones and ruin our equipment. Lol, yeah Tyndallization takes some time. I've tried out once and it does work...just very time consuming.
I would hate to see what you write if it's not positive. Dang!
I live by a certain credo when I critique someone and that is, leave the person feeling better about themselves than when I found them. I'm sure like me everyone understood what he was talking about.
@hopgrenade Yeah, I was just wanting to provide feedback on a term thats misused very commonly in homebrewing & sometimes the brewery industry. Again, I wanted my post to be viewed as positive feedback, think of it this way. Say you wanted to get a new tattoo at a place that just boils or throws Star-San on their needles and called that sterilizing. Would you still go to that tattoo shop or the shop that has their needles autoclaved? There's a huge difference between sanitized and sterlized.
@leexcore1 In what way are you presenting that? I was just trying to educate people on what sterilized actually means. I honestly meant that as positive feedback, I did find the video very informative.
Just talked with my local brewstore they could order it for me but it would be really expencive but i found an old wineballon that will do the trick..:) thx again keep up the good work cheers (skål)!!
Hey Immo, I just got into brewing and wanted to ask you about using a carboy as your primary instead of a plastic tub. Do you find it harder to clean out because of the ring left around it? Does it make it more likely to bubble over the air lock? What are the benefits? Cheers man, love the videos!
@Nachito667 There is a great article at homebrewtalk com under beginers brewing forum called this vs that. It is a thread that discusses the pros and cons of glass, better bottles, plastic, & buckets. I will send you the link in a PM if you want to read it further. Personally I prefer glass because it is easy to clean with a carboy brush and as glass is non-porous I can use any cleaners and don't have to worry about infection much. They are heavy and can break so they have drawbacks too.
Immo, I been looking at kegs. I'm looking for a 5 gal with regulator and c02 tank. Basically everything needed. I don't mind buying used as long as it works. Any direction you can point me in? I'm a college student so fundings are critical, but bottles are taking up too much space and time. Cheers!
@rocknrollpriest I purchased most of my kegs from my local brew supply store....I found my nitro setup online at kegconnection . com. they have great deals on complete setups...in spec tank, regulator, tubing, and a refurbed used keg...around $150 I think
@gez1308 if you try using oak chips in beer...i'd recommend using the light oak chips...the dark oak chips are very powerful and I have over-oaked a few batches when using them...I'm not sure if they are stronger or just unpredictable. I have had good success using about a small handful of light oak chips, gives a nice hint of oaky flavor.
nice, i dry hop with whole hops only, i cut a bottom corner off a fine mesh grains bag and use it with a food grade rubber band (sanitize both) on my auto siphon, rubber band 1" above the auto siphon cup. i never get any hops in to my keg/bottle, works great and is easy set up. i like to char my oak chips on 1 side with a torch, then i soak in knob creek for at least a week, i add chips only to 2nd... adds great flavor to porter/ i p, imperial stout/russian i s and barley wine.
@ZaBuDaB , I've also used the mesh bag/muslin bag trick on the siphon, but after a while stopped doing it cause Ive never really had a problem with sucking up dry hops (whole hops) into the siphon when using whole hops. If I use ground-up or pellet hops, I've always used a hop bag or muslin bag....but I never thought of filtering using the siphon filter trick...that is a great idea if you cant find muslin bags. Great comment for everybody to read, thank you!
Great vid! I agree with what you said but I do not use oak chips anymore it imparts too harsh of a flavor I would rather spend the extra money for Toasted oak cubes.
I like the oak chips idea. I'm thinking about doing that and then use those chips when I'm smokeing up some meat. Should add some really nice flavors....
@Imasofat Your guys make great vids, thanks for the positive feedback, you gonna brew up another brewing video soon? I'd love see some more brewing tips and vids from you guys. I liked the temp control box vid, are you worried about a fire hazard?
@TheBrewHowTo I made a vanilla porter with a friend a 2 weeks ago. His recipe used real vanilla beans in secondary. Hopefully he will bring a sample over when it is finished (my guess at least another month), made a porter several years ago as well (turned out OK) Porters and Stouts not my favorite styles....Stouts are seasonal for me and I drink maybe a 6-pack of porter each year.
Is it just me or does he kinda look like a white Russell Peters? :)

Lagerlederen 2 months ago
@Lagerlederen I doub't it...I just figured since the carboys came from europe that they would be easy for you to find.

Hmm yeah thats weird none of our homebrew stores have them.. Maybe i can get one online.... Thx

Great tips thx.. Love the glass fermenter..impossible to get over here in norway...Cheers:))

@Lagerlederen hmm thats strange...the fermentors are made in Italy. I'd think they would be easier to get over there.
