Jim Crockett took some flack for billing Lazer Tron as being from Outer Space. We have plenty of "parts unknown" but Outer Space? Who would guess that a wrestling promoter would be the first to discover that there really was life "out there."
Lazer Tron was actually a pretty good gimmick. The storyline with he and the New Breed was exciting aside from the fact that it didn't seem like Boogie knew that he was in it. Like sammys70 said, he was a good wrestler, that helped. Did you see the mob of kids that swarmed him when he came out. No different than Cena except Hector was more well versed and well rounded in the ring. Most fans think that pop culture exploitation started w/ Attitude Era.
It was great back in the early to mid 80's to watch this on t.v. the announcers didn't have to have there voice on air every two seconds. Now a days they can't nor will they STFU.
Lazortron was not as bad a gimmick as some of the other ones that happened when Jim Herd was running WCW.Remember the ding dongs?lazortron was a good wrestler, but there was only so much the NWA could do with that gimmick.
I sort of wish that Scrappy McGowan would be hired as a referee in the WWE, or maybe former NWA referees Mike Fever and Steve Gregory, Steve Gregory was one of the two black referees the NWA had, the other was Teddy Long, of course. I'd like to see what Mike Fever and Steve Gregory look like now, maybe the WWE could hire them as referees as well as Scrappy McGowan.
I wonder whatever happened to the other black referee that the NWA used to have? Not Teddy Long, but Steve Gregory. He was the main referee from 1985 until 1986 when World Championship Wrestling was on TBS, when Tony Schiavone and David Crockett were the hosts, before Jim Ross joined the show in the late 1980's. Boy, I sure do miss the old WCW shows at the old TBS studios. I wonder if the old studio still looks the same now as it did then?
Tommy severely injured his back in 1989 but eventually returned. He appeared briefly in 1998 in the World Wrestling Federation as part of the "NWA" storyline.
Tommy attends wrestling reunion shows and is still active in refereeing, including special matches such as the Rock and Roll Express vs. Midnight Express matches. Tommy was named Referee of the Year in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1986.
I wish that former WCW referee Tommy Young hadn't been injured when he refereed that match several years ago on World Championship Wrestling when Mike Rotundo wrestler Tommy Rich, if he hadn't ben hurt, he probably would still be a referee in some organization, like maybe TNA or the WWE, as the senior referee. I wonder what happened to WWE referee Nick Patrick? What is he doing now?
His theme is intense, lawls!

I liked the Lazortron gimmick when I was a kid, though it had to do with Guerrero's actual wrestling ability as much as anything

Tron was actually Eddy's older brother Hector Guerrero, the same guy that portrayed the Gobbledy Gooker in the WWF.

Nick was taken off tv around the time his father was let go when Deep South Wrestling, not sure why. He's still under contract but sitting at home.
I believe Tommy Young was actually injured during a Rotunda/Brad Armstrong match IIRC, not 100% sure though.
I doubt Tommy would still be senior official he's pretty old now to be working like the ref's have to, but he was definitely a good one in his hayday

Pause it around the 25 second mark, watch Tron take the Lazer Tag Censor off his chest before the match. Oh my Goodness how corny!
