I used to love fighting in these, I fought at crystal palace once before it moved to NIA in brum. My first national was great, as a brown belt I beat a 2nd dan in the first round and then held the captain of Enoedas B team to a draw and then went to sudden death where he beat me. actually, most of e fighters in this video have pretty bad distancing. The second half - the one about 1968 - showcased better cases of distancing and timing.

Honestly, I envy the gear they use and the power they're allowed to muster against their opponents. The wkf system is so... restrictive :'(

How can anyone view this DVD and not accept that it is an awesome record of incredible tournament Karate of a very special era? I admit bias - but 'come on' these guys and gals were fantastic and - i believe showed UK Karate at an all-time high. - thank you legend - as a grandfather i can show these vids and say i was there and fought many of them but realised they were so good i went off and worked the doors - much safer!
