I loved growing up watching this show, and i thought Alan Autry aka "baba" was the coolest, he got to beat up people, drive fast, and got the girl at the end of the show.... just plane bad ass lol...
hey i need ur help.. I was jus there 2 visit now i was able 2 locate the square & the county clerk buildin but i still need 2 c the old tibbs residence, gillespies old home, the bottoms, & police station. I know that the square is off clark st. But if u can help me wit locatin the rest of wuts mentioned above i would truly appreciate it!!!
Great stuff, I just loved this show growing up and, still watch it on wgn still today, would love to go to Covington and see the places, thanks for posting!!
when????!!!!! i want to have the dvds!!!! i remember i was visiting my uncle in covington while they were filming an episode. hugh was so nice!!!!!!!!! i love him since i met him. great guy. love his dad too. i miss them...
This was such a good show! I love watching the episodes in syndication on a Chicago station. Carroll O'Connor was the BEST. He was so good in this role and so "real". The entire cast was awesome! I would love to go to Covington, GA and see where they filmed. Nice tribute!
Nice vidieo of the show locations I loved that show .Does anyone have pics of the crusiers that was used on the show ?I would like to do one to go with my patch and badge set.
The production company came to Georgia because they did not have to deal with unions. Also the deal was to utilize local actors and actresses which they did. Georgia is a right to work state and the state cut the production company some deals. The pilot episode was filmed in either Louisiana or Mississippi. I knew the woman that played the Doctor on numerous episodes. She is a real physician but she was more interested in an acting career. She had the connections to get that role
No, none of any of the buildings are currently marked with any markers. At the welcome center you can pick up a visitor's brochure/guide in order to locate the buildings that were used as filming locations. Most of everything is within walking distance throughout the downtown area, with the exception of the school.
The only remnants of "sparta" is an old water tower near "little Phillies" north of the new Super Wal MArt that says "Sparta" in bold fading lettering on the southside of the water tower.
Yes The FICTIONAL Name of the town was SPARTA,Miss during all the episodes, However the names of the locations of the filming in ITHOFN was NOT sparta in real life
I'm sorry, I thought you meant that the original fictional name of the town in which the series was based changed somewhere along the line of filming. Even the original movie featured the name of SPARTA, MISSISSIPPI. Although there is in fact a Sparta, Ga and a Sparta, MS none of these locations where actually chosen. When you're done in those woods, Lousianna and Mississippi starts to look the same, trust me.
I believe the Series Started out in Mississipi somewhere but the name of the town WASNT Sparta, then they moved it to Covington Ga for the rest of the series
The first season of In The Heat...was filmed on location in Hammond, Lousianna. Due to conflicts between Carroll and the first excecutive producer, the set was moved to Covington, Ga. were all subsequent seasons were filmed. Yes, the name of the town was always called SPARTA.
I am also wonderind two other things is the towns real name Sparta and was in really filmed in MI and what is the police station used for now in real life? Can anyone help me out with these quistions?
the show was filmed in covington georgia (my Home Town) the police station after the show quit filming was turned into a public library and is now a club of some sort.....but the buildings and everything else still looks the same as if the actors had just walked off the set
Wrong. The police station was always a public library, they just covered the sign while filming the xterior (The interior was on a set somewhere and they did not use the inside for filming). The library has now move locations and the building is used by a medical suplly place. It is at the corner of Monticello St and Conyers St. just south of the square.
well after it was a library...it was a womens club because my mother was involved with it! But you aint telling me anything i dont already know cause i was born and raised in COV GA
hmmm. You know all about Covington sincethough you were "born and raised in COV." But yet you did not know the library was at that location long before Heat filmed (at least since I was a kid in the 70's ). The only woman's club I am aware of is beside Amici's at Elm St and College St. THe medical supply place went in immediately after the library closed. I have worked for the City of COv building and zoning for 18 years, I issue permits to these places and am aware of what goes where.
i know who you are your probably just one of those stupid yankees from ohio that moves here to georgia, that puts on a horrible fake southern accent, tries so hard to fit in with our southern culture.... and swears to god that they were born and raised in the south when everybody knows that wasnt because they stress their vowels through their nose! You pissed me off you dumb yankee because you basically called me a liar! just leave me alone you wannabee!
Wrong. Born and raised here. Grew up on Conyers St, went to Porterdale Elem, Sharp Middle, and Newton High then onto UGA. And I called you a liar because you were telling a lie. BTW. how do you have your P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer already when you have to be 21 to be certified in GA. Oh unless you are referring to being certified as a jailer. Ask any certified cop that works the road and carried a gun, and they will tell you that you are just a lousy D.O.
you can be certified as young as 18 (check the laws) Some counties down south will put you on the road at 18! Its just most around here wont do it for insurance purposes! APD requires you to be 21 but thats only because of insurance! And i am a detention officer right now but since i am post certified i can still write tickets carry my gun etc! I just dont have a car because im not 21 yet! There no you understand
I always Loved the Show and and happy its back on tv, I always feel when i watch it it feels like i am visiting sparta, its so real, God Bless Carroll O'Connor,Hugh O'Connor,Howard Rollins and Lois Nettleton, I hope let this series out on Video and Dvd before too long, its a timeless classic
I liked this show so much because it offered a realistic portrayal of life in the southern U.S. The chemistry between the actors was excellent, very similar to the cast of the original Star Trek. Many hard charging moments mixed in with romance and humor. So sad that 4 of cast members have passed away. A reunion movie is long overdue.
One of the best shows on TV I think ! I was glad that it was made into a TV series and Carroll O' Connor was perfect for the role as Cheif Bill Gillespie , who will always be remembered as " America's police cheif " .
Join the club. I too have been searching high and low for the DVD's. So far I'm told they have not been put on a DVD collection as of yet. Still searching.....
The singer of this version "In the Heat of the Night" is Bill Champlain. Now lead singer of the group Chicago. From the original motion picture, it is sung by Ray Charles.
Awsome video. I had the pleasures of attending the Heat conventions back in 96-2000. Meeting Dan Biggers, Dee Shaw and others was a great experience that I will never forget. Sorry I never had the pleasures of meeting Carroll, Hugh, Alan, others who were never able to attend the conventions. I do miss both Carroll and Hugh they were such great actors. I ALWAYS had a crush on Hugh! From time to time I keep in touch with Dan Biggers but not too often too busy with my mom being sick.Great video!
Visited Covington in '03. Finally got my picture taken on the steps of the "Police Station" and sat on a park bench on the square, that Carroll and howard sat on.A nice little town!
From what I understand, most of the crew members established themselves in the community like any other resident six months of the year. They worked out at local gyms, and ate at the local resturants and shopped the local food markets. Being in front of the camera was their routine day job. That says alot about the production company and the actors alike.
Your right. I was born and raised in Covington and I remember meeting Carroll O'Connor at my favorite Italian restaurant when I was six. I also met Alan Autry and David Hart at my grandmother's grocery store. They were all very nice and down to earth people.
I am personal friends with Dan Biggers and Dee Shaw from the series. In the shot of the picture with the police patches, two in that shot were donated by me from N.C. back in the late 90's.
It was nice visiting Covington. I watched this series while it was still being filmed, but was living in Florida at the time. David Hart's step-mother was my second grade teacher, although I never met David.
This is the same places season 1 of the Dukes of Hazzard was filmed.
