Outstanding work on the entire series! As an older guy, I've seen nearly all the old original clips many, many times over the years. Your CG work was like missing pieces to a very large puzzle. It just added a whole new perspective to what I already knew, and the narrative made that entire part of history much easier to follow. Oh, and the sound effects just rocked my speakers! Great work! And thanks!
Diphon, thank you for clarifying. You did great work with the FX effects. May I ask if you (or team) used an assortment of plug-ins with your LW9, or was it straight LW9? Also, what type of renderfarm did you use, and what rendering engine? Thanks again for your kind reply...
@Electrifly All of my stuff was straight LW. The only Plug-in I remember being used was for the water displacement. I think we used BNR. As for the farm it was a bunch of workstations on a shelf in the kitchen strapped down with bungie cords in case of an earthquake.
Can you please discern what part of Battle 360 you actually lead on? I've seen the series on History Channel and I own LW 5-8, but I cannot see how one person could've lead all of this work alone. There are models, animation and rigs, let alone the composites, that would require one huge team or more. Surely, you're only implying that you worked on part of this series.
Certainly, I am not doubting your abilities, but the title implys that you were lead for it entirely...
Very nice effect !! I wonder how you maked your particle motion blur ,i tried hundred of time in LW but impossible with hypervoxel and sprite :((( ,do you know a tips or a plugins for making that ?
i love the transition in battle360 when it goes from saying that enterprise was the only carrier in the pacific in one episode to saying that enterprise was traveling in a task force of 15 carriers. good old american ingenuity
Thanks! And you're right. I would have preferred that the FX elements had shadow passes, but the CG supervisor killed them to save on render time. We had to take a lot of shortcuts to stay on schedule.
very very nice!!!!

@Electrifly I was FX lead, so I was responsible for all the "FX" Elements. Fire, smoke, explosions, etc.
In total it was a team of about 20 people.

Doing this quality of preso in the context of a realtime battlegroup command simulator is like my life's work.
Bang-up job!
Can I borrow your assets? :)
The hard part of CGI isn't constructing the models, it's blowing them up realistically. . .
Plus the water effects.

Nice job, I liked that version of "One", but I think I'll have to plug in the original version for the clip and see how it works.

Thanks! But I'm not sure what you mean?
DiphonFX 3 years ago
I mean - do you have any video or footage which shows how you made stuff? Hypervoxels, ocean, wireframes etc?
olahaldorvoll 3 years ago
@DiphonFX he means do you have any videos on how you created your masterpeice, because i just got lightwave, and it is COMPLEX.

Great work. Some of the splashes might need shadow or something. Otherwise it went down easy.
