Hey Newt, why don't you follow the Constitution and get the federal government out of education? The more money we've spent on national education, the worse our schools perform. Let's not forget, while Newt was speaker of the House, government grew several times it's size. Newt is a failed conservative and not a friend to individual liberty.
I use to hold gingrich in high regard. Not sure wat happened to him, but he no longer has credibility. First it was sitting on the couch with Pelosi endorsing the global warming hoax. Now he gives credibility and stature to one of the biggest race-baitors of the last quarter century Al not-so-Sharp-ton. Icing on the cake is his endorsement of yet another liberal in republican clothing in NY. Gingrich is just another fat cat repubican throwing conservatives under the bus. Fail.
The sad thing is that no one would even notice or care about this tour if it was just Al Sharpton doing it. Gingrich is the force and brains behind it. Sharpton's just a demagogue, for the most part.
If students in high school, or maybe as early as middle school, could learn the basics they need and then cater their education to their future goals, I think we'd be much better off. Not every students need to know Calculus, ya know. Probably only 20% of high school students who do calculus or trig in HS even go on into a profession that uses it later in life. Or fine arts requirements. Not EVERY person is good at art, and I hate doing that crap. I'm a right-brained person.
Or left-brained, whichever one has to do with logic and thinking and intelligence. Plus, all those "benefits" to doing the arts ONLY work well on students who are already screwing up in school. A student as smart and well-achieved as I am get little benefit out of art since I already do so well.
Seriously, why is Gingrich of American Solutions, a pro-market limited gov't organization, teaming up with a big gov't stooge like Al Sharpton?? Is Sharpton seroiusly the only guy he could find?
One of the things we COULD do, I think, is stop this idiotic emphasis on "well-roundedness." It's ridiculous! Not every student needs to know every fucking little thing. Specialization can sometimes be a good thing. I mean, every since I was 14 or 15, I knew I wanted to do politics as a career. So why shouldn't I have been able to start early on that career path in HS? Why wait til college? Plus, why can't students wait for those silly HS requirements like advanced math til college?
There are many schools in Europe and I'm sure Asia as well that have successful students who do things much differently than our one-size-fits-all nonsense. Students there actually get to specialize in high school. None of this extra electives and classes crap they don't need.
You can have the best education in the world, but if you don't offer the opportunity to use that education then meaningless. Thats what we are seeing now. Its not that we don't have enough skills, we don't have enough oportunity.
What is our Government up too>?
Have a look you will be surprised!
