I'll have to agree with Dragonlasersfanman here. Once I pointed a mere FIVE mw red laser at a window's reflective surface about 700-800 feet away and it still bounced back into my eye after a 1500 feet round trip......AND IT WAS STILL REALLY BRIGHT!!! I can't imagine a laser that's 30 times more powerfull, 150 mw, going into my eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work with them all day long, for years now, and there's little damage they can do unless you duct tape one to your eye socket and stare into it for hours on end. 150mw will do permanent damage within seconds. 400mw will do damage instantly and 2w will light up the back of your skull like a giant firefly moments after it burns through your eyeball.

@Assimilate71 5MW is powerfull enough to do what I described in my earlier post, it is something......even dangerous to the eyes, you can't take one with out blinking. Even 120 watts of car head lights can't do that at that distance! Why? Because lasers are super columnated while incandescent lights are not.

@kdc43 Yes, you are right. Direct 5mw can cause damage. I work with them in my vicinity all day but, only get intermittent exposure... but, all day long. The flashing isn't enough to stress the retina but, shine it directly through your pupil and it will hurt you. There's a few vids demonstrating what a 2w green does to cd covers... burns thru 10 in no time. I have a feeling we're going to see cases of laser blinding now that ppl can get these more easily.

I work with a green laser every day, we use it for cutting diamonds. Staring just one second to the laser is enough to see sparkles for the rest of the day, so please don't do this.

As said before, 'red' lenses are the only hting safe enough for a green laser, and still only red-tinted special laser safety glasses/ shielding is the only thing capable of blocking the beam.
