There's honestly points where he plays one note every two or three seconds but he can make it sound sooo good and he put so much feeling into it. He's not playing super fast to impress people, he does it when he feels its right.

Epilouge for Lisa and Death Theme are good examples.

@tmh1717 My bias would still put Shawn above Guthrie bro. But you've gotta admit, Guthrie is one of the premiere top-class electric guitarists of the modern age. He has the chops and style to show for it, but upon close inspection, the only thing that lowers guthrie's playing in light of my interest, in my opinion, is that everything sounds too "conventional". Conventional the context of something along the lines of textbook playing. His theory is amazing though.
There's something about Shawn which is deeply spiritual. His playing touched all the most essential colours to the human experience: grief, fury, playfulness, abstract, ethereal, soaring, fun, and most of all...passion. His reckless abandon to set his own course produced something we're still scratching our heads at 10 years later.

One of the best performances I've seen from Shawn. One of us Joe Schmoes would have to live 3 lifetimes (in good physical condition mind you :), to even touch this. Still highly doubtful we would, though.
Oh my GOD! He can do the crazy diminished shit on the piano too! Did you see his fingers?! They were BLURS of focused frenzy. His legato is unmatched period.

Lane was okay. Definitely a better keyboard player than guitar player. I think he's overrated as a guitar player. I really don't think he's good as the Lane fanatics say, but to each his own, I guess.
I say he's underrated. The man's technical and musical phrasing is phenomenal. I learned a lot from his playing. And most "Lane fanatics" are some of the biggest names in the guitar world out there. I would have never found out about him if guys like Gilbert, Buckethead, Govan, MAB, Eklundh, Cooley, and many others didn't speak so highly of him.
How can be over-rated. He can only be equalled technically and nobody famous has done that. His music is only judged on complete opinion so that is not included.

It's easy to say that because people mostly know him for playing guitar. But he was absolutely amazing at keyboards (and he played piano before guitar). In fact, many of the guitar songs he composed were written on keyboards first.

Goddamn how much technique can one person have, and still be playing all these melodies that he can sing to? I feel like a caveman trying to do algrebra when i watch this. Its just pass most the shred stuff thats out there and so prominent. THis is lightyears beyond bands like dreamtheater and the like...............im going to bow out and go take up bavarian cheese whistle.

Shawn could learn any instrument at this level. In one interview he said if he had the hands/feet he would be able to beat 10+ different tempos at the same time.

ok! obviously this is alien technology.. the hugest musical technique in the same hand of an absolute genius wich also, for some unbeliveable reason has also NO limits with guitar and piano and .. nobody know whatever. Furthermore he also play with somach before head. He can't be human. May have the shape but it is a perfect copy of a man. Shawn Lane was indeed a genius even more than a genius, his technics on guitar and keyboard are just unreal, his understanding of music is also unreal.
He was taken way before his time, guys like him are always gone too soon. we just have to be thankful that about every century or so we get a person like him that makes human kind look a little better.
too bad that most ppl are idiots who are not able to appreciate this music and understand its greatness.

Lane was okay. Definitely a better keyboard player than guitar player. I think he's overrated as a guitar player. I really don't think he's good as the Lane fanatics say, but to each his own, I guess.

I say he's underrated. The man's technical and musical phrasing is phenomenal. I learned a lot from his playing. And most "Lane fanatics" are some of the biggest names in the guitar world out there. I would have never found out about him if guys like Gilbert, Buckethead, Govan, MAB, Eklundh, Cooley, and many others didn't speak so highly of him.

It's easy to say that because people mostly know him for playing guitar. But he was absolutely amazing at keyboards (and he played piano before guitar). In fact, many of the guitar songs he composed were written on keyboards first.
