I've never gotten over missing these guys at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz way back. Ok, so that makes me scum. Thank you for the post! Runs hot alright.
yes it doesn't get any better than this, 170 octane airplane fuel but with a low profile-attitude and ultimate cool, reminds me of jimmie vaughan and kim wilson..
I wish these guys had gotten better promotion. The two albums (Little Village and John Hiatt's "Bring the Family") they made were amazing. I've been trying to get friends to listen to those albums for years. Every song on both those albums is a winner.
Hey, LOVE this song. one of the best! As far as I know 'Little Village' only made one album.. In the mid 90s a friend made me buy a second-hand copy from a market-stall, he said; "trust me, you'll like it!" Best 3quid I ever spent, I've played it over and over! Such a great band.. Ry Cooder's amazing but I SO dig John Hiatt, brilliant songwriter. Thanks for posting this here.. Love it, xPx :)x
@MLIN20 Hey, thanks for that.. I hadn't heard about that album but will look out for it. What a great band and John Hiatt really rocks, brilliant songwriter too! Thanks for the info, Jeez can't wait!! Love, Px
Yea, really fuggin great and fun and I'm with the guy above who said "manifold destiny" is worth the price of admission. These guys really knew how to not take it all too seriously and have fun.
I saw them on tour. It was like I'd died and gone to heaven. Second row at the Orpheum in Boston. What a dream team it was! John was great as frontman -- very funny guy. Ry's screamin slide put me in another galaxy! Man, I run totally HOT for them!
Pure Genius - just the phrase "manifold destiny" alone! Sure do wish I had the opportunity to see them live. Sure do wish a 2nd album had been put together. Loved this album from the beginning and have continued to play and love it year after year.
Wonderful rendering--almost better live than the record. Rumour has it that the egos killed the project, but it all looks groovy up there on stage, and the slidework by Ry is just killer. You're right, a second album woulda been, shoulda been.....a contender.
Oh, that's so good. ..really brought a smile to my face. Notice the early 60's Harmony Stratone played by Hiatt, and that Ry Cooder's got a Stratocaster but outfitted it with a D'Armond pickup from a Stratotone in the neck position. Great slide sound--can't tell what amps he's using--a HiWatt and a Vibrolux?--great tone and great playing by Ry.
to that scallywag in sydney who ruined these players for me by trying to play e'one o' there songs and not knowing one all the way through...damn....coz i've had to wait o'er 10 years to get back into grooves like this without recoiling at the thought...groovy groovy post
Great to see this back on youtube, hope it stays up longer this time. Though seems like either a different take from the earlier one (less guitar), or at least a remixed version.
This is great! One of the best live performances I ever saw and heard. I love the energy and the off hand way they pull off what turns out to be a very tricky song to play (go ahead and try for yourself..), great groove, gutsy vocals, terrific bottleneck... I LOVE it!!
exactly right...many people do not know who Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe, Jim Keltner and john Hiatt are, even though they have played on the favorite records of millions of masses of...mortals...for very big number of decades!
one of the best bands I ever saw live... and I've seen plenty....

Something about Cooder's syncopated bass lines when he's playing rhythym, just plain knocks me out. He just has it nailed.

Cooder's playing through an early 50's Gibson amp...I know he likes GA-20's. Looks like mine, too.
